Last spring we participated in the Washington, DC 48-Hour Film Project. We teamed up with Dave Nuttycombe of the City Paper to write the theme song for Travesty Films' entry, "Den Forgpagter Hus." Dave wrote the lyrics, we wrote the melody and music, and we recorded it at Scary Clown Studios with Phil Steveson. The song ended up winning "Best Original Song"!

Leigh-Anne Dennison documented the recording session and took some fantastic photos--they're in a new photo album on our myspace page.

We're excited to have been chosen to be a part of this year's Six Points Music Festival! Not only that, but we will be playing at the State Theatre, which we've never played at before--and it's a pretty cool club. We're one of 40 bands out of about 200 applicants. The line-up for the show we're playing on Friday, April 7 is Emmet Swimming, Getaway Car, the Taylor Carson Band and us (we're opening the show).

Fronted by the charismatic presence and unmistakable voice of Michelle Volpe, the Hickories write tuneful songs that are hard to forget. "Killers" builds to its climax as Mike Conner's ever-tasteful guitar work punctuates the crescendo with harmonics and twang. "Drown" is the perfect vehicle to showcase the group's serpentine harmonies, while the title track is a mid-tempo road trip taken in an old car for old time's sake. It's beautiful, leisurely and familiar; the Hickories at their finest and the ultimate headphone track of the band's debut. "1965" offers some vintage guitar sounds and superb fuzz-bass tones, but it is below their ultimate potential. To close this wonderful debut EP, "Heather Lane" is a slice of '60s-inspired pop that sounds simultaneously fresh and retro. --David Cotton, February 2006

Thanks to everyone who came out to IOTA last night for our official CD release. We filled the place to capacity and there was great energy in the room. It was the most fun I've ever had at a show. All I can say is that we have the best fans ever. Thank you again! Michelle
