"Damned Bad Luck"..
..Copyright 2009 (All rights reserved)..
..Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)..

V1
Took a damned good salesman
To peddle that much crap....
Words strung together…as good as those....
Should’ve known… it was a trap....

Slick ole….Romeo…....
Thought he could seal the deal....
Tryin’ to be from ....Birmingham....…....
When he drove here from Mobile....

CHORUS~
It’s damned bad luck....
In ....Memphis.... boy…....
.. ..
When the dealer reads your eyes....
.. ..
Damned back luck....
In ....Memphis.... boy…....
.. ..
Too damned dumb to lie....
.. ..
Damned bad luck....
In ....Memphis.... boy…....
.. ..
Strung down.. to your last dime....
.. ..
Damned bad luck....
In ....Memphis.... boy…....
.. ..
Tryin' too hard... to be wise....

V2

First mistake… he just had to make....
….Was hittin on my lovely Wife....
Most Men… that ever tried that friend....
Were born.. to loose their life....
.. ..
I stomped his head in the parkin lot....
Til I thought I’d stop seein red....
But the longer I went…for the punishment....
I was leavin him for dead....

REPEAT CHORUS....
.. ..
.. ..
Bridge:....
.. ..
....Memphis.... Police....
…just keepin’ the peace....
Somehow saved his ass....
.. ..
Oh...The gallon he bled…....
with a busted head....
& a face full of broken glass....
.. ..
.. ..

..
..

Disagree with protest…Echo doubt…....

and change your mind... ....

Overestimate… as we disintegrate …....

Destroy hope and unwind... ....

Hear the darkness falling… ....

Feel each breath grow rigor cold.... ....

Smoke another damn cigarette.... ....

As the World we love… unfolds  ....

.. ..

Where’s the love we had for each other? ....

All the light…the calm.. & the hope?....

Where’s this smoke rising to?....

Have we reached.. the end of our rope?....

.. ..

Where is all of yesterday’s truth?....

Where are our lies leading us to?....

Where do you find the courage ya need?....

To somehow make it through....

.. ..

.. ..

.. ..

Foreclosure…repossession

Huge bail-outs …on Wall Street

While hollow ass politicians…

Are inventing new ways to cheat

.. ..

Poverty –n- unemployment

Good jobs just sold away

War don't end…without loose ends

As ....Arlington.... digs more graves

.. ..

Repeat Chorus~....

.. ..

Bridge:

Can you hear that breeze...

As it blows through the trees

Can you see the lady in black...

Down on her bended knees

.. ..

Hear the cryin' flag crack

Against that pale blue sky

Imagine the rifle shots....

As another broken Mother cries

Repeat Chorus~

Everyone Says

Copyright 2008 (All rights reserved)

Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)

A dozen empty beer bottles

Twenty dead cigarettes

Sittin at the kitchen table

Where I tried to kill.. all my regrets

Next to the stack of bills

I can no longer pay

So hard to understand

How things got this way

Chorus:

Everyone says….

I hold on too tight

Everyone says….

It will be alright

Everyone says…

Give up the fight

Ya gotta let it go

Yea Man….

Ya just gotta let it go

My Wife left ....Kansas City....…

Three years ago last night

In the land of make believe

She was tired of bein’ polite

Lost my job at Harley

When the market went in the tank

They gave me six months severance…

Shook my hand …and just said thanks

REPEAT CHORUS

Bridge:

Spend most my free time

Fishin down on the river

The rest of most my day

Is reserved to kill my liver

Forty four years old

Still love to smoke some weed

Surviving one day at a time

In a World filled with greed

From that ole John Deere

18 Rockin Wheels

Don’t ever sit still long

I’m Fall haulin’ ..for you darlin’

To an old Dale Watson Song

Peaked up….in an ole Mack Truck

I’m right where I belong

-n- String Beans ole banjo

Haggard’s telecaster…

As I kick ass down the road

I’ll listen to Hank…..then Lefty

Rot-Gut Whiskey
Copyright 2009 (All rights reserved)
Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)

Blisters on his hands…
From tendin’ the plow
Work horse fading…
He sold all his cows

A sharecropper shack…
With holes in the roof
Salt pork for breakfast…
& a-shot-a-hundred proof

It's Rot-Gut Whiskey
On a lone mans breath
Nothin left to cling to
Worked half to death

It's Rot-Gut Whiskey....
As the barn door sways
He sings in his mind...
As a banjo plays

With time runnin out
Rainy season went long
Neighbors won't help
Said he don't belong

Skin on fire.....
From yesterdays sun

Tryin to keep things up
-n- not get overrun

REPEAT CHORUS

Bridge:

Ten fingers grip

As knuckles rub raw

Life can bleed a man

Down to nothin at all

But, the LORD will carry

Those not done yet

That black dirt turns…

Under a long silhouette

REPEAT CHORUS

HOLES YA LEAVE
Copyright 2009 (All rights reserved)
Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)

Loose dirt fills a shovel
Where ya bury the dead mans shell
In that garden of good -n- evil
Souls drift to Heaven or Hell

A place to morn over yesterday
Where mysteries still sit -n- wait
It's up to you my friend...
To decide your own fate

Life's about the "Holes Ya Leave"
and that mark you make in time
When ya pick up the ole guitar
-n- string together... words that rhyme

Life's about the "Holes Ya Leave"
On that mountain ya left behind
Those bastards called you crazy
When ya climbed... way past your prime

Words always come easier....
When ya have somethin left to give
A building burns... as the World turns
It's all.......just... rel-a-tive

Freedom runs hot... in our veins
Like dope... in a junkies arm
Trees still wave....in this land of the brave
and we think we're free from harm

The Legend of Slagle's Mill
Copyright 2009 (All rights reserved)
Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)

The youngest of twelve children..
Born back in Eighteen & Ten
Joseph was his name...
Oh, he would hide... his life of sin

Married at least six times
Every Wife would surely die
"THE LEGEND OF SLAGLE'S MILL"
Still haunts the Midnight Sky

CHORUS:

Slagle came to Missouri
Back in Eighteen-Thirty-Nine

A Bible in his hand......
And killin on his mind

First murder in Livingston County
Left ole Benjamin Collins dead...
First barrel didn't kill him
But, the second one...sure as hell did

Owned fourteen hundred acres
Was elected to the bench
Justice of the Peace
That Bible he did clench

Murder on Medicine Creek
As more than one Wife died
A hangin from the bridge
Was ruled a suicide

REPEAT CHORUS~

Bridge:

The Legend of Slagle's Mill
Still haunts most folks today
Even though ole Joseph
Has long since went away

With every full...Missouri Moon
You can still hear her scream
Hair stands up on..the back your neck
Like nothin you've ever seen

REPEAT CHORUS~

"Old Missouri Town"
Copyright 2009 (All rights reserved)
Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)

V1

Well I grew up in a small town...
Probably, like most of you

Scattered... cross.. the Mason-Dixon line...
Where we love our Barbecue

Like a scene from... 19....55
Or a... JF Kernan print

An ....."Old Missouri Town"
Is where most...my days are spent

CHORUS:

In an "Old Missouri Town"
You're safe walkin down the street

Just an "Old Missouri Town".......
Where things are more discreet

In an "Old Missouri Town"......
Mom and Pop ....they have survived

In this "Old Missouri Town"
The past......is still ALIVE

V2

The Train, she still runs daily
Boardin'...right Downtown

Like days of the Missouri Pacific....
When those Younger Boys.. were around

Now...New faces own the shops...
...Off .. Ole Main & Green

Folks round here...smile and wave
and most times our words are clean

~~REPEAT CHORUS~~

Bridge:

Lee's Summit Town....Lee's Summit Town
Where The Peanut used to be Strothers

Lee's Summit Town....Lee's Summit Town....
See ghosts of the Younger brothers

Lee's Summit Town....Lee's Summit Town.....
Jerry's Bait Shop and ICE Cold Beer

Lee's Summit Town....Lee's Summit Town.....
Visit a day...& you'll move in here

"Country Justice"
Marshall Peery Publishing (ASCAP)
Copyright 2009 (All rights reserved)

It was a steamy July day ..
.. Country Justice... with a gun
Nodaway County...........
Back in ....19...81

Skidmore...Missouri...
In front of the D...&...G
Eight shots rang out...
With ...only one.. casualty

Swift......"Country Justice"
By a jury of his peers..........
McElroy sentenced to die....
....Never to reappear

Swift....."Country Justice"
Late payment for his sins
Fate it came -a- callin
In the eyes of those townsmen

Twenty-Two indictments.....
 ..NEVER a day in Jail
Ken was a pedifile.......
That needed to go to HELL

He terrorized 4 States.......
Stealin cattle and runnin hounds
Had most folks scared to death
In his twisted underground

~REPEAT CHORUS~

Bridge:

Out on Valley Road
In the Spring of 82.........
That  farmhouse burned down
...just like a barbecue

An EVIL Ghosts..lifted....
As the smoke.. it rolled..jet black
That Son-of-a-Bitch...was gone....
& Was never comin back

~REPEAT CHORUS~
