Wonka Vision Magazine has been around for over 11 years now, only by the blood and tears of publisher Justin and hundreds of barely paid/unpaid freelance writers, photographers, illustrators and more who collectively hand make this zine into what it is today. Over the past couple years print magazines/zines have been folding and we here at Wonka Vision REFUSE to let that happen! we work in a home in south philly, my husband and i who publish this magazine sit on a red wrap around couch down stairs and 3 interns upstairs. This zine is hundreds of peoples passions poured in 70 odd pages of greatness. PLEASE help us continue to make a well written, thought provoking magazine that stands out from any other magazines out there!
IN THE PAGES YOU'LL FIND: indie music from hip hop to acoustic guitar, diy culture, hand made toys, politics and ALOT OF LOVE!
THIS ISSUE IS THE WOMAN IN ROCK ISSUE, FEATURING TEGAN AND SARA!
GET YOUR COPY AT WONKAVISIONMAGAZINE.COM
PLEASE HELP KEEP US AND ALL PRINT ALIVE, YOU CAN"T CUDDLE WITH A COMPUTER BUT YOU CAN WITH AN AWESOME ZINE!

Independent music mag Wonka Vision has published its first “Women in Rock” issue.Inside are interviews with female musicians, engineers, and managersthat touch on the difficulties women face in a sexist industry. Wonka Visionhas an administrative staff of 90% women, yet they still notice a greatdeal of sexism in the rock genre. However, the greatest imbalance is nolonger among the performers, but rather in the production anddistribution of music. In her editor’s letter, Ellen Thompsonwrites: “The disparities the notable women in the following pages arebitching about have more to do with what’s not meeting our eyes andears. It’s the disparities in the boardrooms and recording studios ofrecord labels and in the lighting booths at clubs and venues.” There seems to be a lingering stereotype that the only women whohang around backstage are either groupies or girlfriends. PhotographerCindy Frey says that women’s talents are frequently underestimated, that it is assumed they have slept their way to the top: “often peoplethink that women in the music business are sluts who got their jobbecause they slept with guys.” However, Kate Hiltz, a band and tour manager says that things aregetting a little better for women in rock: “I think it used to be moreof an issue than it is now. I used to get a lot more comments like‘whose girlfriend are you?’” While this is not exactly great progress, hopefully “Women in Rock” will at the very least shed some light on themany women toiling away backstage.

Check out Cristy Road's book, Indestructible, for a Wonka Vision Quote on the back! if her art work is your thing, you can find a review in Wonka Vision's newest issue 43 on her collection of postcards called Distance Makes The Heart Grow Sick!
"Author and illustrator Cristy Road paints her adolescence, particularly high school, as a cultural background where her Latina heritage, sexual curiosity, and love of punk collided with the trappings of popular culture on a 24 hour basis. At times these words seem like a horrible, never ending bit of madness. But on the flipside, readers may feel if they can just quiet the battles raging in their own head long enough, they just might learn something about themselves along the way. Pay close attention to the illustrations, especially those who know the author. You just might be one of the characters in her war zone."

WOnKA VISIOn MAGAZInE, iSSUE 42: ADDED TO THE FROnT DISPLAY RACKS In 210 BARnES & Nobles SUPERSTORES!
Wonka Vision Magazine received an enormous Barnes & nobles promotion; starting with issue 42, in addition to the B&n stores the magazine is available in, Wonka Vision Magazine will be available in all 210 Barnes & nobles "Superstores". Each superstore will carry approximately a dozen copies of Wonka Vision Magazine. Half of the copies will be available in the front of the store on the Main display rack with the world's best-selling magazines and not to alienate fans who typically find WV in the "Music Section", the other half of the magazines will be found in their usual home with all the other Music Mags. This new promotion is going to be HUGE for both the magazine and all of the magazine's long-time and loyal supporters.
Also, look for the very-soon-to-be-launched, Wonka Vision WEB-zine. With reviews, news & videos updated on a daily basis, Wonka Vision Magazine's brand new Webzine will be published on a bi-weekly basis with tons of brand new features, which will not appear in the magazine. "Our staff has been putting this beast together now for the better half of 2008 and hell, if the readers can't find something interesting in all of the new content we're going to provide, we've archived every issue from 1-41 and each week, for the next 41 weeks, we'll be releasing a random issue of Wonka Vision Magazine completely archived", says Justin Luczejko, the magazines Editor-in-Chief and Publisher.
