Unspeakable Things

Gracing the cover of this weeks Design Week magazine is a page from the comic strip I recently produced for the CTRL+ALT+SHFT 'Unmasks Corruption' anthology which is due to be launched at this years Comica at the London ICA and features specially commissioned work from a host of people ranging from Pat Mills to Lightspeed Champion (!!)

My own contribution 'Unspeakable Things' portrays aspects of the humanitarian crisis in DRCongo using the imagery of photojournalist Marcus Bleasdale. This latest issue of Design Week (available in newsagents) contains a feature on the anthology and interviews with contributors. There will also be a coinciding exhibition of artwork from the anthology at the Lazarides Gallery in Soho where prints of some of the artwork will also be available.

The Bullet

Melbourne based 'Torpedo' literary quarterly has put out a special 'graphics' issue - 'The Bullet' - which includes a full colour mini-comic supplement and features over 30 pages of recent and new comic strips by myself (including collaborations with Lawrence Elwick and Dan Locke) as well as solo strips from Mr.Locke again as well as comics work by such luminaries of the underground as Richard Cowdrey, Pete Lalley and Jeffrey Brown.

It Should Have Been a Picture

Appearing on the backpage of The Stool Pigeon free music paper starting this month is a new mini-series by myself and Nelson Evergreen who I have press-ganged into trying to recreate in his own inimitable style some weird and grotesque unphotographed moments from rock history. This month it's an all too brief moment from 1977 when Sid Vicious attempts to get the autographs of the girls from Abba.

New British Comics #2

The second collection of this anthology series featuring books in both Polish and English is out now and features a few more Charlie Parker:Handyman strips by Lawrence Elwick and myself as well as a great cover by Nelson again and some superb new work from Dan White amongst others.

I did a 'colouring job' for my girlfriend Laura a while ago when she'd been asked by Lush Longboards to do a couple of designs for their bestselling Makonga longboard range. Not enjoying working with colour (so she says - I think she just wanted to get back to killing mutants on Fallout 3) she passed the line drawings over to me to add some colour. Lo and behold, said designs are now on sale. Unfortunately they couldn't get exact matches for the colours I'd used but we're both still extremely chuffed with how they came out.

You never quite know what you're going to get with each issue of The Sound of Drowning and I'm never sure what it will be until it arrives. It's really quite out of my hands.

And so it is that The Sound of Drowning 12: Fun and Games is the first issue to be completely digital and online and non-existant in any other realm.

It's not a precedent. The next couple of issues at least will be paper and ink and each again is something completely different.

But number 12 only inhabits a space elsewhere...It's online, it's free and I hope it does things to the inside of your head.
