Hi there
We're back on stage after recording our album “Fun is a Four Letter Word” and we've got a ton of news to get through.
Firstly, we want to thank everyone who helped on finishing the album: Artracks Studio, and the sound engineers, Alex Bolpasis and George Priniotakis, Christos Alexopoulos of Puzzlemusik who offered us the contract, Anna for taking the time and working on our promotion, and lots of others that we now simply forget.
Apart from the release of the album on the internet, as you already know by now, we have plans for merchandising. Lately, Sidheog has been making some wonderful things with his artistic hands and we are planning to start releasing T-shirts.
But, first things first. The T-shirts are not ready yet so let’s start with what is already confirmed.
Three gigs so far, the first one being held on November 26th in Athens with our good old friends, Split Image, who, as far as we know, will also have an album released pretty soon.
They’ve been around for a long time and they deserve your attention. Check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/splitimagegreece
The venue’s name is “After Dark” which is a nice and cozy club, for those of you out there who are not familiar with the Athenian or Greek live clubs.
We have also been booked as headliners for the “Dark Day Festival”, which is a dark wave/post punk/gothic fest and takes place at “Sin City”, a club in the center of Athens, on the 29 and 30th of December. We will play on the 30th, as will another band who has confirmed and you may have recently heard about Split Image. It’s nice for us to return to “Sin City”. We had our first gig there on December 29, 2006, when we opened for Christian Death, where a great time was had by all.
On January 23rd we will play at the club “On Stage”, also located in Athens, where we will be supported by the great newcomers, Common Party.
Common Party is a new band that we saw on stage a couple of months ago and they really kick ass. You can check them here: http://www.myspace.com/commonparty
In the near future we will announce the dates of the gigs for the cities of Larissa and Patras.
The band has to do a number of photo sessions (now that most of the members had a haircut :P) and more news will be announced soon.
We predict that the digital release date of our new album, “Fun is a Four Letter Word” will be the 30th of November. For the CD release, we know the date will be sometime in February, 2010.
Take care and have fun…
Cheers

So, that’s it. In about two weeks, “FUN IS A FOUR LETTER WORD” will be available through electronic shops worldwide, and we will post the direct links for you as they become available.
“FUN IS A FOUR LETTER WORD” is an album made out of the passion of life. It carries the dreams of a person who takes cover in a foxhole and fights back using soft bullets made out of feelings. You will spot these words on our CD Baby page, which will be up in time for the digital release date.
You can’t imagine how it feels to see people from all around the globe visiting this blog of ours. People from Japan, U.S. of A., Norway, Canada, Germany, Italy…it’s a weird feeling if you put in mind that we formed this band just to have fun and we ended up releasing an album and having a contract for one more…
This is funny also… Having a contract for two albums that you recorded having a good time, that’s cool… But, that’s music I guess… We didn’t mean to take the music industry too seriously, and you know…if things screw up one day, we had fun.
This could be a punk rock album or just a musical box. It’s a way to express ourselves and reach out to the world, just like we did in the past with our former bands. So, here we are again using each song of this album as a personal demon which jumps out of it for a few minutes. Sometimes the tracks might be aggressive and some other times they might be tender and melancholic.
Without a doubt, love, hate, and a few other meaningful words have just four letters.
And don’t forget…
Even when it’s time for you to shout out the word “FUCK”…it’s a part of life.
And life must/should/can be fun….
After all... it’s a four letter word …

Greetings everyone. So, everyday we are getting closer to the release of our album. For those of you who read this blog, you might know by now that this might be our debut album but we all have a kinda large discography in the past. You just have to read past blog updates about each member separately. These kinda “bios” are not done yet, as there are much more things to come… But this forthcoming album, “Fun is a 4 letter word” is something special to us all. It is the sum of the last two years the four of us spent together, after Averkios and Costas left the band and holds very special moments of gigs, rehearsals and recording that brought us to this stage: 12 songs. The titles of these songs are the following ones: Bang Bang, Pain Called Pleasure, Kiss The Witch, Dead Inside, Lap Of The Universe, Fun is A Four Letter Word, Eon, The Strangest Of Fruits, Winners, The Love Hatesong, Spider-Jack and Nightshift. You can listen to edits of six of these songs on the band’s profile just to get an idea. The album will be available for digital downloading through the well established digital record shops of the internet during November 2009 and on CD format through the Greek label Puzzlemusik during February 2010, probably with some bonus material. We came up with the idea of digital downloading, as this will give the opportunity to our friends overseas to get ahold of the album without losing time. So, till next time, we wish you all our best. Mike, Sidheog, E-raptor,B-abyss

The release of the NZG album, “Fun is a four letter word” will be available for downloading during November 2009 via the well known international electronic stores.

As we mentioned in previous posts (see below for links) New Zero God is a band with a rich background and history. Due to the extensive association and influence each member possesses, we have decided to write their individual stories here on this blog. While some posts will be written by the band members themselves, other posts will be blurbs from their personal profiles, music encyclopedias, other blogs, posts, etc.
There’s over 30 years of history in music, and there’s a lot to be said.
Today we bring you the fifth installment in the “Meet the Band” series with Part Two of New Zero God’s vocalist, Mike Pougounas. This chapter covers the years 1991 through 1998 and continues Mike’s time with the Flowers Of Romance, Greece’s first gothic rock band. Their debut album, "Dorian Grey" (1990), was Greece’s first internationally distributed gothic rock album, and is considered to be one of the top 50 Greek rock albums of all time.
Meet the Band – MIKE POUGOUNAS – Part II
(Continued from PART I - HERE)
Upon the release of their 1990 debut album, “Dorian Grey”, Mike and the Flowers Of Romance toured Greece for two years. In 1992 their second album, the 12” EP “Love Means Death” was released as a limited edition.
Mike: “There were lots of Greek bands in the early 90's. Fanzines were coming from many parts of the country. People were really into Greek rock 'n' roll, either with Greek lyrics or English lyrics. There were even Greek bands with German lyrics, which was a bit strange back then…”
The limited edition 12” EP “Love Means Death” had three tracks. The A-Side of the record contained a single track, the same-titled “Love Means Death”. A post-punk tune written about abortions, it quickly became a favorite amongst their audiences. On the B-Side was a cover version of the classic Rolling Stones track “Paint it Black” with an ala Sisters Of Mercy intro. The song, “Autumn Kids”, which was originally featured in the compilation album, “Wipe Out!’s 12 Raw Greek Groups” back in 1988, closed the B-Side.
The Flowers Of Romance had one more release during 1992. The English label M&E released the special edition tape, “The Flowers Of Romance… The Story So Far”, which featured 17 songs of the band, some of which had previously been unreleased material.
Mike: “Mick Magick was running a tape label at Surrey-UK. He liked the Flowers Of Romance. When I told him I had a lot of unreleased material, he asked me to release it on tape. He even included punk rock stuff which we had recorded back in the early 80’s. I also have to mention here a great German friend of mine, Lord Litter. Thanks to him I was put in touch with many musicians, bands, and fanzines all around the world. Keep in mind, back then there was no internet yet…”
Mike’s connections had the band receiving exposure through several foreign magazines, including Germany, Italy, UK, Australia, and the USA. Prior to the release of their next album in 1993, “Pleasure & the Pain”, a 7″ single was released with the tracks “Pleasure and the Pain/Winter Waltz“. With the same line up of singer Mike Pougounas, bass player Harry Stavrakas, guitar player Dimitris “Bay J” Beis, and Michalis “Jabar” Tzavaras on the drums, they went on a string of gigs and appeared at the Rock Management Festival in Thessaloniki. During this same year the Greek TV channel ERT2 aired a 30-minute show which, once again, featuring the band. With the band developing status in Germany, the German label, Nyctalopia Records, soon asked to re-release the album “Pleasure & the Pain” on CD. The CD edition came out in 1994 and featured 4 bonus tracks. Having been released through a German label, it gained even more fame for the band in the underground gothic rock circles.
Mike: “Mick Mercer was writing his book, “Hex-Files, The Goth Bible” about that time. We sent him the information he needed. I have to admit, Mick must have been quite confused by all the changes the band went through and the list of names which appeared on the info sheet…hahaha…he also made mention of that in his book.”
The album “Pleasure & the Pain” spawned two hit tracks: “Love Commandos” and “Winter Waltz”. During 1994, the band appeared on several compilations, mostly in Germany.
Mike: “In 1995 I contacted Wayne Hussey. We exchanged a few letters and spoke on the phone a few times. I always admired Wayne cause he is an honest man and a wonderful musician.
He asked to meet me in London where he listened to the Flowers Of Romance material that we were recording for our forthcoming album. He had some free time from his band, The Mission, and since he liked the stuff we had, he asked me if I would like to have him work with us as our producer.”
With Averkios Hadjiantoniadis on guitars, Dimitris Koukas on drums, Stavrakas on bass, and Pougounas on vocals, the band went into the studio to record the album “Brilliant Mistakes”.
Some parts were recorded in Athens, but most of it was done at The Mission’s studio in Bristol, where Hussey also brought sound engineer, Steve Whitfield. Back then, Whitfield was the sound engineer of The Mission and The Cure. He later became the producer of many bands, such as Terrorvision, Yann Tiersen, Black Wire, Shed Seven, Vib Gyor, Far From The Dance, Immune, Buen Chico, Jonjo Feather, Jon Jones and the Beatniks, Bill Bruford, The Trash Can Sinatras, Four Day Hombre, The Dead Pets, The Scaremongers, The Invention, If I Were King, The Lucida Console, Xi, Lubby Nugget, Mr Shiraz, Milloy, Pylon, Chiwawa, The Pale Saints, Les Thugs, Kava Kava, Nex, Isotopia, Ignore This Fist, Sasha, and Supercharger. Mike: “We had a great time in the studio. Wayne played some guitar parts in the album and did some backing vocals, such as for the “Crying Puppet”. We had the time of our lives”.

“Brilliant Mistakes” was released in Greece in 1996, with two tracks in the top 20: “Channel Z” at #5 and “In a Vacant Place” at #12.
A few months later, in 1997, it was released by the top German gothic label Hyperium, and during the same year the Flowers Of Romance supported the Sisters Of Mercy and New Model Army in Athens at the Apollon Football Stadium for the Rockwave Festival.
Mike: “In 1998 I grew tired of everything. Our management was fucking up everything. They weren’t able to book us a European tour even though our albums were out there. Bill Laswell became interested in us, but our record label looked the other way. Cleopatra Records asked to feature the “Crying Puppet” on the “Black Bible” compilation but it was all in vain…
We did everything we could, but there was no light at the end of the tunnel. The band members became agitated and we started arguing with each other. This is when I decided I had had enough. I left the band to form a new one. Everyone was becoming very hostile. It was a dead end.
So, there wouldn’t be any more Flowers Of Romance for me, nor for anyone else either. I jumped off the train and formed Nexus…”
… to be continued …
