They are destined to a hit beyond their island home.

A near perfect introduction to Malta’s greatest hope, classy melodies, aching human emotion and considerable musicianship.

This four-track CD of bittersweet folk-pop is a near-perfect introduction to Malta’s latest and greatest musical hope. It’s not traditional Maltese music, but a contemporary anglophone sound driven by classy melodies, aching human emotion and considerable musicianship. Melissa Portelli exorcises her personal demons by writing and singing from the heart, while talented multi-instrumentalist Keith Anthony swirls music around her in flurries of melodic highs and lows. His guitar fronts his one-man orchestra, and although it’s sensitively played and neatly harmonised, it’s only the clean production that keeps it in check. Repeated listening brings its own reward, and once it hooks itself into your ear you’ll find it pleasantly and harmlessly addictive.

Their countrymen are profoundly in love with Chasing Pandora, apparently, and we can well believe it: Melissa is Tori Amos’ voice-box transplanted into the body of a simultaneously stentorian and seductive Eurovixen, while Keith is a Mediterranean Joseph Fiennes walloping effects pedals so adroitly that a couple of strums become a zither duvet of reverb, and they specialize in sleeve-hearted, spectral acoustica – especially the towering, twin-vocalled ‘Time’ – these Maltesers are an appetizing prospect indeed.

ACOUSTIC ROOTS - CHASING PANDORA AND FRIENDS

During the summer Chasing Pandora performed several London concerts to great critical acclaim.

They were so impressed with the attentive audiences and creative ambiance of the venues that they returned to Malta determined to find a place where they and their friends could play in an atmosphere conducive to acoustic music.

After much searching they found Labyrinth now ChiaroScuro in Valletta, which has performance area that is separate from the bar and comfortably accommodates an audience of 200.

Jack Daniels whisky has kindly offered to sponsor the first 7 concerts Acoustic Roots which will take place every Friday starting on

November 7th, 9-11pm.

Chasing Pandora have confirmed some of Malta finest and most respected artists to join them on stage to collaborate on interpretations of their own songs as well as favorites by other writers. In addition to the very special guests each week, they will provide a platform for new aspiring musicians to play their own compositions.Hoping to give new talent a platform to show their ability.

There will be a nominal entrance fee of Eu2 and the concerts will not follow any set format and could include anything from spontaneous jamming to poetry reading.

We don't know if there is an audience for this type of music in Malta, but we are sure going to have fun finding out. Please support us in this new venture - we are passionate about music and hope and believe that in some small way we will be providing an arena for music appreciation that has not previously been available on our island.

Each week we will release which artists are lined up for the coming Friday's Acoustic RootsDon't be surprised to see some of Malta's most well known artists appearing who simply want to share their love of music.

In addition to the main guest artists we are asking for all singer/songwriters to send a demo into the Tickety-boo management office and we will choose a new and aspiring artist to perform at the Friday event each week.

Please contact Sam at Tickety-boo 21556166 or email sam@tickety-boo.com

Please note that we have cancelled all Playrock Gigs as we did not think it was a suitable venue for acoustic music , we have been looking for a suitable venue for quite some time and now have found ChiaroScuro.
