Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
I recently spent some time in Door County, Wisconsin on a relaxing little weekend getaway.

On my last day there, I set out with a girlfriend to explore Peninsula State Park, a beautiful nature preserve located on a bluff high above the waters of Green Bay.
As we went through the park, we stumbled upon Eagle Tower. Eagle Tower is a 75 foot wooden tower built in 1914 that sits on a cliff above Green Bay, exactly 250 feet above the water.

For whatever reason, I was attracted to the tower. I quickly assessed it and decided to climb it. I figured if it's been here since 1914 and it's open to the public, it must be relatively safe, right? So I grabbed my video camera and began my ascent.

Upon first glance it seems like it would be a breeze to climb to the top, that is, until you get started, then you realize the tower is one big wobbly staircase.

Now I'm from the city so this is not the first staircase I have conquered. My home is three levels and I climb those stairs every single day. The art school I attended was 14 stories high and I loved using the stairs. It is however quite daunting when you realize that the individual stairs of Eagle Tower go straight up and have no backing, no walls. So this means you get to feel the wind in your face, you cannot avoid seeing the height you are climbing to while the landmarks below you shrink with each step you take.

I was so happy to be climbing Eagle Tower and was especially excited to be sharing the experience with my dear friend. After all, we are stronger together... that is until I lost her, and then I had to be strong by myself.

Can you relate? My friend turned back after about 20 feet up. She didn't just turn back, she got a little cranky with me, told me climbing this thing just wasn't important to her and just like that, she was gone. She was back on the ground. Little did I know that climbing this pile of wood would become a deeply moving spiritual experience that I could draw from for the rest of my life...

The Ten Lessons I Learned While Climbing to the Top

1. There will be times you will have to go on without your support system. The people you want to be there with you will not always be there with you. Be willing to go forward anyway.

It occurred to me at that moment that I had a choice. I could turn back to keep my friend company or I could just keep going. Since she was already cranky, I might risk her being angry with me for going without her. Or I could just go forward and do what I said I was going to do. I would have truly preferred to climb it with her and share the experience, but I decided to continue climbing even if it meant I was solo. After all, the tower wasn't going anywhere and I could tell her all about it when I came down and perhaps she would want to climb it later after watching me do it. Quite an optimistic thought.

But that didn't happen. She totally disengaged from me and the experience. She went to the car and made some phone calls. What's important to note is that no matter how much I truly believe she would have benefited from this experience, my journey is not her journey. Each person chooses their own path and sometimes you have to let them go and then do what you need to do for yourself.

Which taught me this:

2. The higher you climb, the scarier it gets and the less company you will have.
Sometimes people turn on you and project THEIR fear onto you through anger, disassociation, abandonment and so on. Sometimes they even attack you because you are doing something they want, but are afraid to do. But the reality is, when someone does this, it's not about you at all. I wanted her to have this experience. But the truth is, this climb was not about her or anyone else and I shouldn't make it about her. It was about me wanting to feel the fear and do it anyway. I wanted this experience. There were people already at the top and that was comforting to know that I would meet them when I got there.

And so I kept climbing.

The higher I climbed, the stronger and colder the wind was. In fact, when I reached the second level, the wind was so strong, it blew my hat off my head. Oh, and the higher you go, the more the tower sways in the wind. You can hear the wood making creaky sounds and the 'perception' of danger and intensity becomes greater with each step.
The wind is cold and loud as it howls around you. There is no protection from it as the tower is essentially 4 pillars, a floating staircase and a railing to hold onto as you climb.
That's it.

So why was I here, why was I climbing this tower? Why was this so important to me?

3. How you do anything is how you do everything.
The very thought of that statement is what kept me from turning back. I wondered if I turned back here, in a controlled situation that would be done and over with in about 4 minutes, what else in life do I avoid, turn back and retreat from? Not that this issue is a pattern in my life, but the mere possibility was enough to make me forge ahead.
This experience was symbolic to me, a step in the direction of expanding my personal development and spiritual growth.

4. Once you make the decision to go, do not sit around talking about how afraid you are. That only causes the fear to become bigger and you will increase your chances of turning around like my friend did. It's okay that she turned back, as she had her reasons for not doing it, but I could not turn back for I had my reasons for following through and I was 100% committed to make it to the top. She saw the tower as a meaningless pile of wood. I saw it as a metaphor for life and conquering fear. Instead of focusing on the fear, I focused on the feeling of accomplishment I would feel with each progressive step and the view I would get to enjoy when I reached the highest point.

What you dwell upon long enough and strong enough becomes your reality.

5. The only way to grow your courage muscle is to use it. Sometimes when you are afraid to do something that you know you are capable of, it means you MUST do it. I could spend my entire life avoiding things that scare me but then I would never grow. I would miss out on so many delicious experiences. When muscles and skills are not used, they atrophy, the fade, they shrink. You increase and grow your capacity whenever you pursue your potential.

6. The higher you climb, the more temptation there is to turn back. The climate is different at the top. There is often more risk, and the conditions are more extreme. Fewer people are willing to take those risks and battle those conditions. This applies to business, love, friendship, intimacy, spirituality and any aspect of life. The greater the challenge, the greater the opportunity, but also the greater the challenge, the more opportunities for your limiting beliefs to sneak up on you and bite you in the rear.
You must consistently consciously choose to overcome the perception of your limitations.

7. When you get to the top, or reach a new level, take time to celebrate and reflect. Capture the lessons from the experience. Who knew that climbing a wooden tower would have brought so much insight to my life and give me the opportunity to share it with you? And some of you are going to comment back and share your insights with me and that's pretty awesome if you ask me.

8. After you stretch yourself and have done something a few times, it becomes much easier to accomplish more. In fact, you will find yourself looking for bigger challenges to tackle. Challenging yourself makes you feel alive and accomplished. Even if you don't make it to the top, if you stretch yourself, you will be in a better position for the future.

9. The view from the top is spectacular. There are things you can only experience and see from up high. I climbed the tower three times that day. Each time was easier than the one before. The third time I climbed the tower, I saw a bald eagle flying just above me. Have you ever seen a bald eagle in front of your face free in the wild? Let me assure you, it's a treasure to behold. I would have totally missed that remarkable sight if I were standing on the ground.
It is worth noting that Eagles do not hang around sitting on the ground. They soar. If you want to see them and be around them, you have to rise to their level.

10. Sometimes coming down just as frightening as going up. After I celebrated at the top, and took in the spectacular view, it was time to come down and it was just as scary coming down as it was going up and I think the same is true of life. Life is a series of peaks and valleys, summers and winters. There are cycles we must all experience. I don't know anyone whose life is a constant ride at the top. But it is still worth the effort to go for it and get back to the top, to seek new heights, if for no other reason than what you will learn and who you will become in the process. The lessons are yours to keep forever.

For my friend this tower was a meaningless pile of wood. For me it was a metaphor for life. What towers or mountains have you climbed lately? What challenges have you embraced, what fears have you conquered? How have you stretched yourself today?
You want to seek new heights in every area of your life. It's worth doing whatever it takes to get there.

See you at the top.

Can You Create a New Habit in 21 Days?

"Fake it 'til you make it." We've all heard the cliche for approaching something that seems out of reach. There may be some method to the madness of that approach.
But have you ever given much thought to what it takes to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be when it comes to eliminating old habits and forming new ones?

Success is habitual.

We have all witnessed those who seemingly achieve amazing feats over and over. Think of Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, Michael Jordan. What allows one person to be an automatic peak performer every day without fail while others experience failure after failure? Most likely, the achievers have created and practiced success systems, habits and rituals that serve rather than detract from their goals.

If everything affects everything, which is, of course, true, then it pays to take a holistic look at the current habits and patterns in ALL areas of your life, at work, at home and at play.

You cannot change what you don't acknowledge so it pays to get real and be brutally honest with yourself so you can finally align your habits with your dreams.

How to Create New and Empowering Habits

1. Identify your current habits, the good, the bad and the ugly. You have probably practiced many of the same habits throughout your life without realizing it. Keep a pen and paper handy throughout the day to capture habits as you become aware of them. From the moment you wake up to the moment your eyes close at night, most of your thoughts, words and actions are habitual. Write them down on paper. If you get stuck, ask others around you what habits they notice in you. This might take a few days.

2. Once you have identified your dominant habits, identify the source of those habits. Most of your habits were programmed into you at a very early age without you even realizing it. Many of your habits come from observing your dominant parent or caregiver. If you are habitually late, perhaps this trait was modeled for you by someone you admire. Not always but often enough. From the brand of car you drive to the brands of food you purchase, many of these habits were modeled for you and you practice them subconsciously.

Here are some common negative habits:

reading the newspaper first thing in the morning
vegging out, watching tv all evening
going to bed too late
hitting the snooze button every morning
cleaning obsessively
exercising excessively or not exercising at all
eating fast food frequently
saving money or not saving money
excessive credit card debt
choosing toxic relationships
not reading self-improvement books
not setting goals
procrastination
having many started projects and none finished
impulsiveness
dishonesty
infidelity
hoarding
negative self talk
criticism of others
complaining
depression
worry
blame
smoking
overeating
sugar addiction
skipping breakfast
workaholic
alcoholic
overcommitting to things because you can't say no
etc.

Often you can look at your parents, examine their habits and see them in yourself. ....I know I do on both the positive side and the negative side. They're there alright. This exercise is not to judge others or yourself. It is simply to identify. This is especially important if you have children because your current habits are likely to be modeled by those who look up to you. What habits and traits do you want to instill in them?

3. Next to each habit you identified, decide which of these habits are empowering and which habits are disempowering. An empowering habit serves your greater good. It usually serves the greater good of the people around you too, those whom you love and care about. A disempowering habit does not serve your greater good, in fact, it likely detracts from your life. Disempowering habits are roadblocks to your dreams.

Next to each empowering habit, draw a smiley face :) Next to each disempowering habit, draw a frown :( There is no neutral.

4. The best way to eliminate an old disempowering habit is to replace it with a new more empowering one. Next to each disempowering habit, write down a description of the opposite habit you want to replace it with.

For example, if you come home after a long day's work and turn on the television vegging out mindlessly for hours while your belly magically grows, perhaps an evening walk with your mate is what's called for. Perhaps instead of reading the newspaper each morning and being bombarded with negative news and advertisements, perhaps you will opt to replace it with reading a chapter of a personal development book or listening to an audio while you prepare for the day. Instead of surfing the net, perhaps you want to write a few pages of that book you've been putting off. If you've been hoarding to the point you barely have a path to walk through, perhaps some purging and organizing is in order. If you habitually criticize your mate, perhaps you can create a new habit of focusing on what's great about them. If you were a habitual procrastinator, you could become a habitual action taker.

5. Prioritize which habits you want to tackle first based on their importance to your life. Write #1 next to the #1 most important habit you want to focus on, #2 for the next most important habit and so on. To begin, focus your time and attention only on the habit you have determined is most important that will have the greatest positive effect on your life. I'm not going to tell you to turn your entire life upside down overnight by tackling them all at once. Some can do this successfully because they seek a complete life makeover. Others who are easily overwhelmed and lack confidence will sabotage themselves and fare much better by focusing on one habit at a time.

6. Imagine a role model or someone you admire. What habits and rituals do they consistently practice to achieve the results they do? Now here's the bigger question: What beliefs underlie those habits? Model the habits of those whom you admire. Model the habits high achievers. Focus on the beliefs underneath that support those empowering habits. Fake it 'til you make it is ok to begin but it only gets you so far. Many copy the action steps in an effort to duplicate a formula, and complain when things don't work out. They only went through the motions. The real magic happens when you in embrace the underlying Principles, beliefs and mindset that produced the success.

Sometimes creating a new habit can lead to a new belief.
Sometimes creating a new belief can lead to a new habit.

Ultimately, they must be congruent to move you in the direction of your Goal.

7. Celebrate your existing empowering habits and the new habits you seek to create. Imagine the positive effect on your life and the people you love. Revel in the ways you will impact the people around you for the better. Imagine your life in one month, 6 months, 1 year, 5-10 years from now. What will your life be like because you adopted these new and empowering habits and beliefs. Pretty remarkable I would think.

When your current thoughts and habits are congruent with your Goals and dreams, you will begin to move towards them more quickly and with seemingly less effort.
You know you have successfully created a new habit when the practice of it is automatic and effortless.

How long does it take to break an old habit or form a new habit? It varies. Most experts assert that it takes 21 days. I believe it could take an hour, a week, months or years. You are the determining factor. The greater your desire and commitment, the faster the change will occur. Practicing the new desired habit consecutively (every single day without fail) increases the speed in which you will see results.

When the identity shift occurs inside you, you are well on your way. When you no longer think of yourself as a smoker, but a non smoker. When you no longer view yourself as overweight, but rather a healthy vibrant person who lives a healthy lifestyle. When you no longer think of yourself as a complainer, rather an person who finds the good in every person and situation-automatically. That is when you will have successfully created the new empowering habit.

After you have accomplished successfully creating your #1 top priority habit, move on to # 2, then #3 and son on.

When your identity is congruent with the beliefs, thoughts and actions necessary to carry out your Goal, you have become the person necessary to achieve your Goal.
Resolve to do whatever it takes to improve the quality of your life.

By Jill Koenig
Author, Coach, Speaker

Millions of people started the day today “hoping” for
motivation to get them through the week. They woke up
waiting for some external force to inspire and light a fire
under them so they could make it through the day. Not an
exciting way to begin the week, do you agree?

Does it make sense to await motivation from an outside
source and “hope” it arrives or does it make more sense to
learn a few key strategies for motivating yourself week
after week consistently? After all, we are given 52
Mondays each year. What if you could turn them into the
springboard for creating a great week guaranteed every
time?

“The most important thing you can do to achieve your Goals
is to make sure that as soon as you set them, you
immediately begin to create momentum. The most important
rules that I ever adopted to help me in achieving my Goals
were those I learned from a very successful man who taught
me to first write down the Goal, and then to never leave
the site of setting a Goal without first taking some form
of positive action towards its attainment.” -Tony Robbins

Creating a great week is not something that happens by
accident, in fact, you have the power to create momentum
anytime you desire. This lesson focuses on empowering ways
to approach Mondays so you can create unstoppable momentum
and create the best week of your life every week.

10 Steps to Creating Monday Momentum:

1. Decide in advance that you are going to have a great
week
. Your attitude determines your altitude and it starts
right here with the decision. Expect success, expect the
best, and be prepared to invest the very best of yourself
in everything you do.

2. Define Success more clearly
.
Envision exactly what it means to have a great week.
Does success mean
productivity? Fun? Speed? Quality? Progress?
Completion? What elements do you need to
create in order to realize your vision this week?

3. Map out your week on Sunday evening
. At first this may
seem challenging but after a few tries, you will be in awe
of how easy it is to set yourself up for success. Here are
some questions to get you started: What are your priorities
for the week? What are the essentials you absolutely must
accomplish and in what order of importance? What do you
need to do this week to meet your Goals for the month, for
the year?

4. Schedule your actions and priorities into your calendar

so that you know when you will do them.

5. Create measures of accountability
. Are you motivated by
pain or pleasure? Does it light a fire under your posterior
to know there is a fun reward at the finish line for doing
what you promised or are you more motivated by the pain of
having to pay for NOT doing it? Determine your own
personal rewards you will enjoy for following through on
your commitments and what penalties can you impose on
yourself if you don’t? Bring in a friend or peers for extra
reinforcement. Having someone to hold you accountable will
keep you honest and give you an extra edge. There is
nothing like succeeding or failing in front of an audience.
You can raise the bar on this as high as you need to.

6. Go to bed early Sunday evening
. Stretch or meditate
prior to bedtime. You will feel more rested when you wake
up and you will have energy, vigor and enthusiasm to begin
your day. There’s nothing as energizing and momentum
building as arising with clarity, getting a jump on the day
and being ahead of schedule, rather than feeling like you’re
behind schedule or playing catch up.

7. On Monday morning rise a little earlier, get in a quick
workout
, even if it’s just a 15 minute walk or ride on the
exercise bike. Wake up your brain and get those endorphins
flowing. You will burn more fat, feel GREAT and get it out
of the way so you’re free to move on to other things.

8. Eat a healthy breakfast
. This will provide you with
the fuel to tackle your top priorities. (planning your week
in advance means planning your meals in advance if you want
to be super productive, energized and stay away from fast
foods, which are a huge energy drain) What you put into
your mouth has a direct effect on your productivity,
efficiency and mental clarity.

9. Listen to one hour of an empowering audio program
while
you’re working out and eating breakfast. This will help you
with the mental motivation and get you going with the right
attitude. I recommend http://www.TheTimeCommandments.com

10. At the end of each day and the end of each week, review
what you did or didn’t do
. Make adjustments where necessary
and keep building on your strengths and celebrating your
successes. Have fun and remember that small improvements
add up over time. Imagine how much more clarity,
motivation and achievement you will experience after
growing and improving consistently for 52 weeks!

Momentum breeds momentum.

Unleashing these powerful strategies will condition you to
seize the day every day. You will condition yourself to
know where you are going, get moving and you will have all
the motivation and Momentum you need to carry you through
the week.

"A ship in port is safe,
but that's not what ships are built for."

-Grace Murray Hopper

Today I would like to talk about a topic I think every one
of us can relate to.

Fear.

The dictionary defines fear as: noun 1. an anxiety caused
by real or possible danger 2. pain, apprehension, concern

At one time or another we have all experienced the emotion
of fear.

There are so many variations of fear. Fear of the unknown,
fear of events outside of our control, fear of failure,
fear of success, fear of intimacy, fear of people who are
different from us, fear of ______(fill in the blank)_______.

I have found that at it's very core, fear is simply a signal
or a call to action.  The ultimate purpose of fear is to
serve you.

There are two kinds of fear, what I call Stage 1 Fear and
Stage 2 Fear.

Stage 1 Fear is very real. It's the fear that calls for
immediate action, for example, when your life or safety is
in immediate danger.  This is an all-consuming fear that
intuitively grips your gut, without thinking.  For example
when you're walking down a dark street and you sense
danger. I mean it's very serious and should not be ignored.
This fear most definitely serves you.

Stage 2 Fear, on the other hand is a little more
mysterious.  It surfaces whenever you move outside of your
comfort zone or  try something you've never done before.
For some it is a fear of flying, fear of heights, fear of
roller coasters, fear of being married, fear of being
divorced, fear of starting a business, fear of starting a
new career, fear of learning a new skill, etc.

Becoming aware of the two different kinds of fear allows
you to take a step back anytime you feel afraid so that you
can evaluate how it can serve you.  You can ask yourself, is
this stage 1 fear where I need to take immediate action,
disengage or change course -or- is this stage 2 fear, where
I am simply being faced with the opportunity of moving
beyond my comfort zone.

Stage 1 is usually a warning that requires immediate
attention, while Stage 2 Fear can actually be an invitation
towards something that is ultimately good for you.

Yes, it's true, you can actually feel afraid of something
that is GOOD for you
:)

You can be afraid of falling in love, speaking in front of
an audience, meeting new people, trying something you have
never tried before, starting a business, and so on.

Here is an example.

When I was 13 years old, in the 7th grade, myself and my
entire peer group spent our summer days at the park
district swimming pool.  There were actually 2 pools.  A
shallow pool for the little ones and a pool that had a
graduated depth from 3 feet to 15 feet where the diving
boards where.

Swimming pools are fantastic.  And being a kid, sun and fun
all summer long, what more could you ask for, right?

One tiny little problem… at 13 years old, I did not know
how to swim.

As all of my friends were swimming away into the deep end,
I was left clinging to the side of the pool in the shallow
end, terrified to let go.

Now let me be clear.  As my friends swam away, I was
without a doubt feeling Stage 1 Fear. I had every reason to
be afraid.  It would not have been wise to follow them into
the deep end at that time.

Being in any body of water, not knowing how to swim is
dangerous and potentially life threatening. Anything that
can end in serious injury or death should not be taken
lightly.  But there are risks involved in anything worth
doing in life.  I could have abstained from the activity
all together forever, but spending the rest of my life in
the kiddie pool was not appealing to me.  Forget about the
peer pressure, or the other kids making fun of me, I can
handle that.  But I could not handle missing out on all of
the fun they were having.  I did not want to go on one more
day, not to mention the rest of my life not knowing how to
swim.

I was staring in the face of the "Terror Barrier"

More on that later.

But at that moment, I made a decision.  I set a Goal and
decided I would learn how to swim.

Here is what I did:

Step 1. I asked my friends to swim past me in the shallow
end, while I held my nose and went underwater to see what
their arms and legs were doing as they swam by.  I observed
that the arms were doing one thing and the legs were doing
another thing and I thought hmmm, maybe I could do this.

Step 2. I went to the lifeguards and asked them to watch me
while I held onto the wall, where I proceeded to kick my
legs like my friends had done.  Interestingly, when I did
this I became somewhat buoyant.

Step 3.  I let go of the wall and swam a few feet out.
Then I swam back to the wall.  Imagine my surprise, I was
actually doing it, I was SWIMMING!

I don't know if you know how to swim or how you learned,
but sometimes the longer you wait, the harder it becomes.
Seriously, that imaginary barrier can play tricks with your
mind if you don't keep it in check.  I went from feeling
terrified, wishing I could swim, to deciding I would learn,
then taking immediate action to make it reality, all within
a few hours.

And by the end of the day, I was swimming in the deep end
and about a month later, I was jumping off the diving
boards in the deepest part of the pool. In fact, it was not
pretty or efficient, but I was swimming good enough to get
where I wanted to go.

The purpose of fear is to serve you.

The "Terror Barrier" is an imaginary line.

On one side is you and where you are now.

On the other side is your dream, your Goal.

Most people turn back when they reach the Terror Barrier.
They say, "no, I am too afraid, I am frozen, I'm turning
back and staying in my comfort zone where I feel safe." And
they never step over the line to find out what they are
truly capable of.  They can't see beyond the current
fright, when what is on the other side is so good.

But…

You cannot live your entire life holding on to the edge of
the pool.

Some of you are in an illusion that you are in Stage 1
Fear, you are terrified, but you actually in Stage 2 Fear,
with the perception of Stage 1.  You're at the Terror
Barrier.

It's just a matter of going beyond where you are now.

Put your safeguards in place whenever you can, find
yourself a mentor or coach and create a plan of action for
your Goal and start going after what you want. Whenever
possible, model those who went before you.

Now that I understand it, I have run ins with the
Terror Barrier on a daily basis. There are constantly new
things I want to learn or do that are waaaay outside of my
comfort zone.  I acknowledge the fear, evaluate the
situation and break through it.

Just like when I learned how to swim, it's not always
pretty, but it's good enough to get me where I want to go.

Most of the fear and worry people give their energy to is a
figment of their imagination.  99% of the worries and
anxiety of the world never happen.

Stop wasting energy being paralyzed by fear.

"A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are built
for."   -Grace Murray Hopper

Allow your fear to serve you.

Think of what dreams of yours have led you to the brink of
the Terror Barrier where you turned away?  Was this truly a
Stage 1 fear or was it Stage 2 (an illusion) ?

Write it down and email it to me if you're ready to
break through it and make the dream a reality.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you're more than
aware that America (and several other countries) are in the
midst of a recession.

I am being inundated with requests from the media asking
questions about how people can stay up during these
challenging, uncertain times.

I will share with you a few of the strategies that work for
me and those who triumph over circumstance at will.

1.  Control the inputs of what you're allowing into your
brain.  For example, when you first wake up in the morning,
are you turning on the tv or radio news, which is 90%
negative?  You may as well as punch yourself in the stomach
because that is how you will feel the rest of the day. Instead,
begin your day by inputting something positive, encouraging,
motivational or educational.  I have done this for the past
15+ years and it gives me the boost I need for whatever
comes my way.  The world's outer economic climate may not be
within your direct control, but your own attitude, outlook,
emotional and mental climate ARE.

2. Set some new Goals or recommit to old ones.  This gives
you something positive of your own choosing to focus on
throughout the day.  Then really go after them.  Do something
every single day. Notice I didn't say to wait until the
economy improves to go after them, I mean right now, today.

The millionaires of next month, next year and beyond are laying
their foundation today, now.  If you wait until the economy
rebounds, you're only delaying your own success and growth.
Besides giving yourself the daily spark of going after your
dreams, you will put yourself in the best possible position
for the future as well. Opportunities exist today that are
ripe for the picking because much of the population is frozen
in fear.  Don't be one of them.  Give yourself every advantage
by taking decisive action every day to advance your Goals.
Winners planting seeds now will reap the greatest rewards
today, tomorrow and beyond.

3.  If you are one of the many who are paralyzed by fear,
hire a coach to hold your hand and guide you through it. Even
today in this economic climate, dreams are being born,
businesses are being started, growth is happening and A LOT of
money is being made.  You were given 24 hours today.  How much
of your time did you invest in making your life better?
Take charge.  Empower yourself and go after what you want.
Don't wait for a handout or a bailout, create your own destiny.

Napoleon Hill taught me "You become what you think about."
For some of you, now is your test. How bad do you want it?
Think about your Goals, Dreams and Ambitions.  Focus on
what you want, it's a lot more empowering than being helpless
and worrying about what might or might not happen.  Create what
you want in your life. Don't shrink in the face of challenge,
rise up to meet it and conquer it.

Now is the time to invest in yourself.  Now is the time to
decide what really matters in life and as Rock Balboa says,
"Go for it!"

4. Invest in yourself.  If you have ever dreamed of starting
a business in the area of your passion, or if you already own
a business and want a solid road map for exponentially growing
it in any climate, I have a great training for you.

GoalGuru.com is co-sponsoring a very special teleseminar

away at a NY Madison Ave Advertising agency to following his
dreams, now earning Millions of dollars per year.  Just a
few years ago, his wife was unhappy with his long hours at the

September 22nd was an important date as it marked the
100 day countdown of 2008.

With that in mind, I have put together a number of
questions for you to consider as you progress toward the
finish line and call this year a wrap:

1. What specific results have you achieved so far
this year?

2. Are you healthier, wealthier, and wiser?

3. Are you winning, losing or just holding ground?

4. What results are you committed to achieve by the
end of the year?

5. How have you grown and what have you learned
this year?

6. Is there any unfinished business that needs to be tended
to in your life?

7. Are you actively pursuing what's most important on a
daily basis?

8. What habits or behaviors do you need to change to ensure
better results?

9. What is the key issue that inhibits your ability to
perform at your best?

How You Can Be a Champion Like Michael Phelps
By Jill Koenig

Although I had a busy travel schedule this past week, just
like millions of people around the world, I was glued to the
television every time Michael Phelps took to the water in
the Olympics. Because success leaves clues, I study the
best of the best in every sport, business or craft I
possibly can, and you should too.

Sometimes in life what separates first place from second
place is one point, a fraction of an inch or even a tiny
millisecond that requires the most sophisticated technology
to measure. Those small gaps define who wears the Gold Medal
around their neck, who breaks a world record, who earns
millions of dollars in endorsements and who graces the top
magazine covers.

You may feel you have nothing in common with Michael Phelps
but the fact is that there is a Champion inside you.

Jill, there is a Champion inside you.

Perhaps your area of passion is being a parent or an
entrepreneur or a weekend athlete or a singer or writer...
whatever your Goal, you don't have to be a swimmer to unleash
it. All you have to do is apply a few simple strategies to
your own pursuits and practice them consistently everyday.

Here are Five Things You Can Do Today to Be a Champion Like
Michael Phelps

1. Improve on the Small Things that Make a Big Difference

Phelps was asked how he can break world records, sometimes
by a whopping one or two seconds (in swimming this is
huge). His answer was simple and something you can apply
to your own life starting today: Phelps said, "In swimming
there are so many little things you can change that really
do make a big difference in the end. We're able to go back
to the drawing board and work on the small things that can
make a big difference."

What areas of your life can you change some small things
that will make a big difference? Perhaps it is something
as simple as going to bed a little earlier, eating
healthier, exercising smarter, reading more, advancing
your education by taking a class, scheduling regular dates
with your spouse and children or getting a Coach to help
you improve your efficiency, proficiency and stay on track
with your Goals. Whatever it is, identify those areas and
make the change.

2. Study Other Champions

Phelps was asked what separates those who are gifted from
those who performed in clutch moments and won. Phelps
said, "For me when I watch other sports, when I watch
Tiger Woods, when I watch Roger Federer, when I watch
Rafael Nadal, the best athletes can compete under any
circumstances. No matter what it is, no matter what the
pressure, you can always overcome whatever is put in your
way."

I have studied top athletes long enough to know that there
is an inner game and an outer game that must be harnessed
for one to achieve absolute Mastery of a thing. There are
many long hours of practice as well as having the attitude
that you will overcome anything that comes your way. Work
on both your inner game and your outer game simultaneously.
Phelps studies Champions in other sports and you should
too. There are always lessons to be learned and applied to
your life.

3. Put Blinders on to Focus Your Energy When it's Time to
Perform

Did you notice that prior to entering the water for each
race, Michael Phelps was wearing headphones and covered his
head with a hoodie? This was to block out the outer noise
and distractions and stay focused on his own predetermined
priorities. He was in his own world, he was in the zone.

We all have those moments when we must perform at our very
best. This could be during a sales call, a workout, a
meeting with your boss, a presentation in front of a live
audience, etc. During those times it is important to get
yourself into a peak state of focused concentration. You
can do this to begin your day, prepare for a race, get
psyched for a workout or any occasion anytime you want.
Phelps listened to Young Jeezy during the World
Championships which he dominated. Choose the music that
gets you revved up and visualize yourself succeeding in the
activity. Practice positive self talk. You're the best at
what you do. See it. Go there. Be it.

4. Do what you love

Phelps was asked how it feels to be the worlds fastest
swimmer. He said, "I don't think about it like that. I
think of it as something I love to do and I am having fun
with it."

Champions do what they love and love what they do. The
amount of time it takes to achieve the level where you're
competing against the best of the best and come out on top
means you must be extraordinary. To be extraordinary,
sometimes you have to give up some of the things normal
people do like hanging out with friends, eating fatty fast
foods, staying up late and vegging out for hours in front
of the tv. Instead you use those hours to practice and
with the hours in between, you treat your mind/body like
the fine tuned, high performing machine that it is.

Phelps recognized he had the opportunity of a lifetime.
When asked what scarifies he had to make for swimming, he
said, "Doing normal high school kid things was something I
was willing to give up. I know I won't have opportunities
like this in the sport for the rest of my life."

What areas of your life could you rearrange or re prioritize
in order to raise another certain area of your life to new
levels? What could you let go of to make room for the
Goals and Dreams you truly desire?

5. Finish Strong

The race that absolutely left me speechless was the
"Miracle Finish" in the race between Phelps and Serbia's
Milorad Cavic. In the final seconds, it appeared Phelps
would come in second. In the last few feet at the finish,
Cavic coasted to the end while Phelps fought for it with
everything he had. Even when Cavic had the lead, Phelps
never gave up. He fought to the finish.

I wondered how many times in life we go 90% of the way
there only to fizzle out or coast at the end. Regardless
of whether you think you have it won or not, give it your
all right up to the very end. That's what Champions do.

I learned in working with my Trainers Darin and Cordell, that
your greatest growth comes when your muscles burn and fatigue
and every sensation is telling you to quit. At first it seems
like that's all you have left. But those one or two extra reps
AFTER that point are the key.

That extra effort is where the real growth and magic happens.

These few lessons are just some of what I extracted from
watching Michael Phelps become the greatest Olympian of all
time. They are things that you and I can easily do every
single day if we simply apply them to our lives.

Unleash your inner Champion.

Make 2008 Your Breakout Year! New Year New Life!

http://www.goalguru.com/products

==============
Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Millions of people started the day today "hoping" for
motivation to get them through the week. They woke up
waiting for some external force to inspire and light a fire
under them so they could make it through the day.  Not an
exciting way to begin the week, do you agree?

Does it make sense to await motivation from an outside
source and "hope" it arrives or does it make more sense to
learn a few key strategies for motivating yourself week
after week consistently?  After all, we are given 52
Mondays each year.  What if you could turn them into the
springboard for creating a great week guaranteed every
time?

Creating a great week is not something that happens by
accident, in fact, you have the power to create momentum
anytime you desire.  This lesson focuses on empowering ways
to approach Mondays so you can create unstoppable momentum
and create the best week of your life every week.

10 Steps to Creating Monday Momentum:

1.  Decide in advance that you are going to have a great
week. Your attitude determines your altitude and it starts
right here with the decision. Expect success, expect the
best, and be prepared to invest the very best of yourself
in everything you do.

2.  Define Success more clearly. Envision exactly what it
means to have a great week.  Does success mean
productivity?  Fun?  Speed?  Quality?  Progress?
Completion? What elements do you need to
create in order to realize your vision this week?

3.  Map out your week on Sunday evening.

5. Create measures of accountability.  Are you motivated by
pain or pleasure?  Does it light a fire under your posterior
to know there is a fun reward at the finish line for doing
what you promised or are you more motivated by the pain of
having to pay for NOT doing it?  Determine your own
personal rewards you will enjoy for following through on
your commitments and what penalties can you impose on
yourself if you don't? Bring in a friend or peers for extra
reinforcement.  Having someone to hold you accountable will
keep you honest and give you an extra edge.  There is
nothing like succeeding or failing in front of an audience.
You can raise the bar on this as high as you need to.

6. Go to bed early Sunday evening.  Stretch or meditate
prior to bedtime. You will feel more rested when you wake
up and you will have energy, vigor and enthusiasm to begin
your day.  There's nothing as energizing and momentum
building as arising with clarity, getting a jump on the day
and being ahead of schedule, rather than feeling like you're
behind schedule or playing catch up.

7. On Monday morning rise a little earlier, get in a quick
workout, even if it's just a 15 minute walk or ride on the
exercise bike. Wake up your brain and get those endorphins
flowing.  You will burn more fat, feel GREAT and get it out
of the way so you're free to move on to other things.

8.  Eat a healthy breakfast.

9.  Listen to one hour of an empowering audio program while
you're working out and eating breakfast.  This will help you
with the mental motivation and get you going with the right
attitude.  I recommend
http://www.TheTimeCommandments.com

10. At the end of each day and the end of each week, review
what you did or didn't do.  Make adjustments where necessary
and keep building on your strengths and celebrating your
successes.  Have fun and remember that small improvements
add up over time.  Imagine how much more clarity,
motivation and achievement you will experience after
growing and improving consistently for 52 weeks!

Momentum breeds momentum.

Unleashing these powerful strategies will condition you to
seize the day every day.  You will condition yourself to
know where you are going, get moving and you will have all
the motivation and Momentum you need to carry you through
the week.

Quote of the day:

"I never do anything out of my comfort zone."

Driving ludicrous speeds, one-inch from someone's
bumper?

"That's MY comfort zone."  -Danica Patrick

===============================
===============================

Five Things You Can Learn from Danica Patrick
By Jill Koenig

Danica Patrick's first racing season was in 2005 at
Homestead-Miami.  That year, she became the first woman to
lead the Indy 500 for 19 laps and finished the race in
fourth place.  It was the best finish by a woman at Indy,
and she took Rookie of the Year honors.

On April 20th, 2008, the twenty-six year old Patrick made
history again by becoming the first woman to WIN an Indy
race with a victory in the Indy 300 at Twin Ring Motegi,
Japan.

In a sport where races are won and lost by fractions of a
second, here are a few keys to being a winner at Indy and a
winner in in life.

1.  You can be the greatest driver in the world but you
need a great team around you to win.  Patrcick's team
members each have a specific job to do and they practice,
practice, practice to master it.  The mechanics who
assemble the car, the pit crew, the technicians who monitor
the stats and gauges and so on.  Every single individual on
the team makes a critical contribution to the results of
every race.

2. You must believe in yourself.  When asked if she doubted
she could win a race, she said, "No doubt, just a matter of
when."  If you believe winning is inevitable, then it will
be for you.

3.  Learn how to deal with your critics. Patrick says, "I
expect people to think that I can't drive still because I'm
different," she said. "I'm in a boys sport, so you get the
good old boys and people that aren't open to change. You
get people that don't want to embrace it. As far as being a
woman, my car doesn't know the difference."

4.  Never say never. Patrick is clear about keeping her
options open, saying, "I've learned too well over the last
six to eight years, you can't say anything is a never.
Saying never is a very strong word, and if you say that
word, it really lives.  You have to go where you feel you
have the best chance to win and the most opportunities and
where you feel your heart is."  This same spirit that
allowed her to leave the comfort of her home in the USA and
move to England as a teenager in order to give herself every
opportunity to become a leader in the sport.

5.  You must maintain your focus. In a race where you're
driving 220 miles per hour, a single mental error can
result in a catastrophic crash or injury, wiping out
thousands of hours of work and millions of dollars
invested. Determine your critical areas that demand the
greatest focus and master those areas.  In the race Patrick
won, one of the main factors was fuel.  Seven of her
competitors ran out of gas, thus allowing her to pass the
leader when he struggled with fuel issues, thus ensuring
her victory.

Every Goal has specific elements that are more crucial than
others.  Identify the areas that are most critical.

Focus on those.

Invest your time and energy in the areas that will make the
greatest difference.

Think of one Goal you are working on.

In what components of this Goal must you pay precise
attention to in order to succeed in it's advancement or
achievement?
