A lot of you know me, but I am going to post what I posted on craigslist to make it easy on myself haha.... Basically, I am looking to solidify a serious and stellar band at this point. I'm a fan of creativity. I am not a fan of drama. Heres the posting: ..
..
..
..
..
..
....
Hey,
My name is Jacob Vanags and I am looking for a drummer and
bassist first… and strings/horns players and guitarist/multi-instrumentalists
second. I have had success already with bandmembers I half-borrowed from other
bands, but due to their now conflicting priorities and distant locations it’s
way too hard to pretend that they are still on board. So I’m looking to
solidify what could be a really great band.
....
I am a 22-year-old singer/songwriter on piano who will be
graduating from Hofstra University (originally from Ohio) in May and I am looking
to take THE leap in music after school. I have released one solo EP and one
full-band EP (on Nov. 3rd) and you can check out the music here: http://www.last.fm/music/Jacob+Vanags/Pulses+Are+Pluses....
....
I play a driving and melodic indie pop rock (not your
typical piano crap) and I have a lot of influences but here are the major ones:
Ben Folds, Death Cab For Cutie, Sufjan Stevens (which is probably why there are
strings/horns/choirs in the some of the tracks), Jason Mraz, Snow Patrol, The
Format, Coldplay, The Killers, Arcade Fire, Feist, Regina Spektor….....
....
Personally, I’m laidback but very creative and diligent. I
HATE drama. I am extremely positive. My manager and I do A LOT of work and are
currently working on branding the music and getting it synced while I am
stagnantly at school. We are also working on a music video in the near future.....
....
SO. If you’re a cool dude between 18-25ish and are looking
to join a band that is actually looking to make a mark in the industry, lets
play. I am currently on the island
but am willing to travel to see how things work out. I will most likely be in
the city after May. Thank you........
....

About 1 year ago I met up with a drummer and a bassist and collaborated
to write some pretty awesome music. About 7 months ago I got together
some strings, horns, a choir and a recording engineer. About 49 days
ago, I started promoting the crap out of the result of all of these
things. 1 year later, I proudly release my first fully produced EP to
you. "Pulses are Pluses" is a mindset. It is curiosity. It is
ambition. It is hope. It is love. It is positivity.... It is only
possible by friends and family. By fans at shows with 100 people. By
fans at shows with 2. By musicians with inspiration. By a feeling that
you can't quite fathom. By unity. By selflessness. By the miraculous
connection of all of these things combined. But is it a miracle? No.
Thanks to you. Love all that you have. Jacob Promo Video Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udIz6RrH1rc

So
I decided to make Thursdays my ‘Thought of the Day’ days because I have
so many random thoughts, questions, theories, and philosophies up there
in my head that I need to release them into the public before they
explode and I get a severe concussion… and because it alliterates.
So here is thought #1:
If we did not have taste buds, we would only eat out of necessity,
and being overweight would therefore never be an issue. Am I right or
am I right?

Current mood: anxious
Ok.
so you know that feeling you get when you’re 8 years old and you’re at
the top of the water slide at a water park and there’s a huge line of
wet, half-naked people behind you and an impatient lifeguard at the
bottom (and top) of the slide and you’re like “this is gonna be fun,
right?” and you’re all antsy and excited all at the same time and the
people behind you are this close to pushing you down it cuz you’re taking way too long??
yeah, well chill out, ya’ll. i’m going.
Today marks the first day of a whole new year. I’ve been fending
off a lot of questions lately (mainly, because i didn’t have an
answer), but i finally have a few! After recording for most of spring
and mixing and mastering throughout the summer the new EP is finally
finished.
On November 3rd (exactly 7 weeks from today) the 6-song EP, “Pulses are Pluses” will be released.
Over the course of this time a new site will be created, old sites will
be revamped, songs will be dropped one at a time, new pictures and
videos will be posted, and I will keep this Jaco(b)log updated for your
enjoyment (or boredom-reliever… whatever floats your boat).
I’m going to start posting pictures, videos, designs, and whatever
comes to mind on this site soon, so please, remember to COME BACK for a
visit or, better yet, BOOKMARK this blog page. and if all else fails…
i’m sure my status updates will find you somewhere on your computer
screen.
and if you’re feeling good, say hi to me here, here and here:

love and vitamins

Hey ya'll (We're in Richmond and heading South)...
I had some time to sit and go online for a couple of minutes so I thought I'd share with you a few things of what we have experienced:
Angels and Kings was sick nasty. Good friends, good/free drinks and a free cola for nicky C....
Chicken and Rice on 53rd and 6th results in happy taste buds/unhappy stomach.
U-Haul is the shiznit. We have an "in-town" trailer.... for 8 days. they cut us a dirty deal and although on the trailer it says "do not exceed 45 mph," we've exceeded 80 at least a few times....
Two Boots in CT has some delicious pizza (especially when its free ) and some nice people running the joint... they gave us a free rubber duck and a little girl named leslie drew a picture of us on stage that we will keep in our tour scrapbook....
Played Basketball at Quinnipiac (thanks Jayme and Erin). Zach and Ryan defeated Nicky and myself 12-10 (-to 11 and win by 2-)... we were winded but satisfied....
While Nicky cuddled with his girl, Zach, Ryan, and I had a 3-way spoonfest on a futon in the middle of the dorm room....
The drive from CT to DC is farther than the drive from Philly to DC.
Had some good friends come out to the show in DC at the Velvet Lounge. We played before the "House Band" (from LA?) who brought nobody... Luckily from the draw we brought (after the house took most of it) they got 4 bucks that were leftover and left us nothing... Although we argued the fact we were the only one's who brought anybody some money and that we were touring and could use some gas money, Karma kicked in right before we left we found a black box in a pile of broken guitars, plywood, broken fans and other junk.... we took it out of the garbage to use it for a lockbox in the future... apparently a band from weeks past left the box there with gas money in it for us... a good amount, actually... yes.
Ben's Chili in DC has the best Chili ever. And President Obama Approves.
Zach, when feeling good, likes to jump over fences, onto bushes, and into parked trailers... he also enjoys calling all females "dudes." Good times.
The "Wonder Couch" in Brian Gold's Apartment is called so, because it will knock you out if you sleep on it. We slept instantly and without knowing 8 roommates walked by us to get to the front door at least 4 times each the next morning. We were awaken by the Comcast man.
I gotta find my camera.
The Camel is a sweet venue with good people in Richmond, Virginia. My finger started bleeding while playing and got all over my white keys, BUT. the food there is AWESOME.
And now we are at Hali's house about to passssssss out. Goodnight, ya'll.
Jacob and gang.
