Well, as predicted, our Four Color Friday sale was CRAZY. Big thanks to everyone who came out and got some ridiculous deals! We moved a ton of books and freed up a bunch of room on our shelves but I'm sure it's only temporary... we'll have those shelves back to bursting in no time!

Secondly, the Thanksgiving holiday has thrown off the shipping schedule so new comics will be in on THURSDAY, December 3 this coming week! So we'd love to see you on Wednesday but if you want to only make one trip this week, we'll see you on Thursday!

First off, we are getting in our new comic shipment this week on WEDNESDAY, just like always.

I just wanted to get that out there. I know there's always confusion during the holidays as to when the comics will be delayed and when they won't be. And to make it more confusing, the week after next, we'll be getting them in on Thursday (since both UPS and our distributor give their employees Thanksgiving AND the next day off).

Okay, now on to the BIG news! We're having a MASSIVE Black Friday sale on Friday, November 27! This is our 2nd annual "Four Color Friday Sale" (black friday, bah!) and if last year was any indication, it's going to be CRAZY.

Anyway, our beloved and precious subscription box customers will get a whopping 40% OFF everything in the store ALL DAY LONG!* That's a little "thank you" for helping us get this far and to let you know how much we appreciate you!

Hello!

Man, lots of stuff happening... I was in a wedding this weekend, my mom is coming into town, it's Naomi's birthday coming up this week and it's Halloween! Life never takes a break, does it? Well, it does but it's usually for good when that happens!

Still, I got to experience one of my small pleasures this week! Portland local Aron Nels Steinke has two, count 'em, TWO new books out and we have them in stock! I love this guy and his storytelling. It a very unique, cartoony style and I think it's a really great way to tell a story.

The first book of his is Big Plans #4, the next in his auto-bio comics. This one is about his girlfriend's laptop getting stolen and them going on a sting operation with the police to get it back! It's a great, small $5 book. It's a good read and goes well with his other Big Plans comics.

The other is Neptune, a 150+ page original graphic novel. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but it looks as great as all of his other stuff! I'm really looking forward to digging into if I have any time this weekend!

Hello!

First off, big thanks to everyone who came out for the Lift Off signing on Friday! We had a blast and it's always a lot of fun to support the local comics scene here in Portland. And if you missed the party, we still have copies available located in our Portland Artists and Writers section!

And I've gotta say, this is my favorite time of the year. It gets a little cooler out, we see some rain and, best of all, hot cider! We went to Sauvie Island on Friday and boy, did we have fun. We got some local produce, Naomi picked out two pumpkins for herself and we got some hot cider! And it was especially great going early on a Friday because there weren't too many people! Bring it on, autumn!

One last bit of news... we've now sent out over 1100 comics in our Comics For The Troops program! I usually send out a few boxes every Friday on my weekly trip to the post office and I just realized that we surpassed the one THOUSAND comics mark! I tell ya, it seems like we've hardly made a dent in all of the donations we've gotten so far! Still, I'm extremely happy that we'll be sending comics to our troops for quite some time. And I think they're happy to get them!

AZRAEL #1 - Following the events of "The Eighth Deadly Sin" in BATMAN ANNUAL #27 and DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11, the new monthly series starring Death's Dark Knight begins! Michael Lane is a man in search of redemption, but does serving the Order of Purity as God's Angel of Justice bring him closer to achieving his goal - or simply send him further down a road paved with good intentions? When a hired killer comes to Gotham City seeking revenge for crimes committed decades in the past, Azrael faces an impossible conflict: What if God's justice forces the hero to claim one of God's servants? FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF THREE WORLDS HC - Superstar writer Geoff Johns and legendary artist George Pérez deliver the Crisis of the 31st century as the Legion of Super-Heroes reaches out for help against a powerful foe they can't beat alone. From the moment Superman landed on Earth until the end of time, the Time Trapper has sought to erase Superman's impact on the universe. But the Legion of Super-Heroes have always been there to stop the relentless villain. Now, one Legion isn't enough as the Time Trapper taps a twisted mirror image of The Boy of Steel from a parallel Earth long dead: Superboy-Prime! Who will answer the Legion's call for help?

SUGARSHOCK ONE SHOT -  Originally presented in the first online issues of MySpace Dark Horse Presents, for which it won the Eisner Award for Best Web Comic, Sugarshock tells the story of a rock band led by charismatic but crazy Dandelion Naizen, a hyperactive singer/songwriter possessed of a mean hatred of Vikings (don't ask) and a mission for a secret government agency that may only exist in her head. But when her band, which includes a robot bass player, is enlisted in an intergalactic battle of the bands -- emphasis on battle -- Dandelion gets to prove herself as both singer and soldier. This is Joss Whedon at his funniest and most hyperactive, with writing that bursts off the page in a way seldom seen in comics. Multiple Eisner Award winner Fábio Moon delivers the outrageous story with equal energy, as well as providing a fourteen-page look at his process, with never-before-seen character designs, page layouts, and promotional images.

STAND SOUL SURVIVORS #1 (OF 5) - M-O-O-N spells the start of the third volume of Marvel's critically acclaimed adaptation of Stephen King's horror epic. Nick Andros has hit the road and teamed up with the child-like Tom Cullen. After the horrors of Captain Trips, a bike trip through Oklahoma and Nebraska sounds like fun, right? Except it's tornado season, True Believers, and not everyone Nick and Tom meet is on the side of the angels. Hell hath no fury like Julie Lawry, another survivor of the plague...

TOON TUMBLERS MARVEL HEROES ASST - PopFun's Marvel 'Toon Tumblers returns with new Spider-Man and Wolverine glasses, brand new Bronze Age releases of Iron Fist and Spider-Woman, and the start of a new line of classic Silver Age imagery including the Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom. Hello!

So we're moving into autumn... and I love it! It's actually my favorite time of the year. I love the cool weather, the holidays and all of the fun stuff going on.

I wasn't able to hit the HP Lovecraft Film Festival but I did get a chance to check out the 2nd Annual Portland Halloween Bazaar and it was GREAT! Our pals Jack and Jayne (and a legion of helpers) have really done an incredible job putting that show together. If you didn't go this year, please make sure to go next year!

Also, I attended a great meeting with the Mayor's Office and a bunch of people associated with the Stumptown Comics Fest. The Fest is in April, as usual, but it was was great throwing around ideas and having our city government be so passionate about helping promote Portland as one of the biggest comics cities in the country!

Now on to the good stuff! Here are my top picks for the week! And remember, a full list of what we're getting in on Wednesday is included at the end of the e-mail.

BATMAN THE UNSEEN #1 (OF 5) - The fan-favorite Bat-team of Doug Moench and Kelley Jones reunite to introduce the newest member of Batman's rogues gallery in this twice-monthly, 5-issue miniseries! Horrible and unexplained murders have Gotham City held captive. Bizarre deaths have been occurring throughout the city, but the perpetrator is unknown. Even when the crimes have been committed in view of witnesses, all that is seen is a glimpse of a weird, skinless "meat-man" who seems to fade away after the crimes. Gotham's only hope is their Dark Knight Detective, but how can Batman find and fight an Invisible Man?

BLOOM COUNTY COMPLETE LIBRARY HC VOL 01 - Collecting every strip from December 8, 1980, through September 26, 1982, in chronological order, with a new cover inset by Breathed. Berkeley Breathed's Bloom County burst onto the American comic scene in December 1980 and it soon became one of the most popular comic strips of all time. The endearing and quirky denizens of the strip included Milo Bloom, Steve Dallas, Michael Binkley, Cutter John, Bill the Cat, and Opus the penguin. Bloom County was a strip that dealt with many issues relevant to the period. Occasional "Context Pages" are being added throughout this collection, giving the reader a greater understanding of the time. This is the first time Bloom County has been collected in a handsome hardcover library, five volumes in all. Each newspaper strip is reproduced in chronological order from first to last. Great effort has been made to ensure the highest production values are achieved. Most strips were either shot from printer's proofs or Breathed's own original art. This is the first of five volumes.

Hello!

It's been a pretty crazy week! First off, a big thanks to Jeff Parker, Steve Lieber and Ron Chan for coming out this past Wednesday for our big Underground #1 release party! Everyone had a great time and we still have some signed copies of Underground #1 left over so make sure to come in and grab a copy for yourself!

Also, we had a really odd and funny interaction with the Portland Police... seems that someone started a rumor that Snoop Dogg (yes, that Snoop Dogg) was going to be stopping by during the signing at some point. I don't know how it started but we all had a good laugh and it was always nice to get to talk to the boys in blue. But man, what an odd thing to hear from a police officer!

And to top it off, we enjoyed the beautiful weather on Saturday with a bunch of friends for the Northwest Down Syndrome Association (NWDSA) Buddy Walk! It was a great way to raise money for a good cause and it was fun to hang out with so many friends. It was also a good introduction to some of the folks involved. We will hopefully be doing some work with them in the future!

Sorry about the delay in getting this newsletter out... I went camping (I know, I can't quite believe it either) over the weekend and was so bushed that I'm only just now getting caught up! But camping was fun (I even saw a bat!) and it was nice to spend time with friends old and new. But now I'm back and ready for COMICS!
