OK, granted I'm not on MySpace much these days, (it's been hard enough just to keep the Cranium up and running) but how come the only "Friends Requests" I get are from would-be pornstars? Jesus Christ, I mean, they aren't even REAL pornstars. If they were, I'd probably add them. Instead its always prepubescent women who seem convinced that my penis is too small and that I need a consolidation loan. (How in the good Lord's name do they know me so well? It's like they're in my head!)

This weekend is the 2nd Bonaventure Arts and Media Festival--two days of art, politics, and of course, MUSIC! Area painters, photographers, film-makers, poets and writers, and community groups are coming together in the San Damiano Room on the St. Bonaventure University campus to celebrate the "DIY" spirit and have a boatload of fun. Tables and space are only $10 for the entire weekend. I'll be scrambling around for the rest of the week but anyone--and I mean ANYONE--who wants to participate should drop me a line or just show up on Friday afternoon for set-up. We'll accommodate you as best we can. And remember, the evenings' entertainment features 18 bands! That's right 18! And its all FREE although it would be great if you'd kick us a donation.
All proceeds will go to the Olean Art Space so come on down and support the community.

For Immediate Release:
ST. BONAVENTURE'S SECOND
ART AND MEDIA FAIR SLATED FOR APRIL
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y., Feb. 26, 2007 – The second annual Bonaventure Art and Media Fair (BAM) is slated for Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, in the San Damiano Room of Francis Hall at St. Bonaventure University and the Olean Art Space, ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />116 W. State St.
The BAM Fair is an opportunity for St. Bonaventure students, local and regional artists and performers, and community political organizations to show their creative interests and provide an outlet for free expression.
The independent spirit is in full force as Dr. Mark Huddle, assistant professor of history at St. Bonaventure, and a group of students expand upon the ground they broke at last year's fair.
In addition to live musical performances by a variety of groups throughout the two-day fair, there will be interactive workshops and panels covering issues such as independent magazines, self-publishing, the music industry and social advocacy.
Jackson Ellis of Verbicide Magazine and representatives from Boathouse Records, a New Jersey independent record label, will be attending.
The Bonaventure Art and Media Fair is student driven. Bill Boguski, a senior journalism/mass communication major from Carmel, N.Y., is one of the student leaders.
"Last year, against all odds, we were able to create a successful and rewarding event for all those involved and who came," Boguski said. "We've got access to people with a wide variety of interests in art and music."
Cathy Kula, a junior English major, is heading the events and is excited to be able to be a part of something that really matters for the community and herself personally.
"Having the ability to utilize my own talent, as well as reach out to others who haven't had the opportunity to do so is a wonderful feeling," Kula said. "I love being connected to the community. We help each other and the result is amazing."
All events are free and open to the public, although organizers will be asking for a donation at the door. Organizations or individuals who wish to participate may reserve a booth at the fair for $10.
Any persons or organizations interested in participating should contact Boguski at (845) 705-2134 or boguskwj@sbu.edu; Kula at (585) 610-7263; or Huddle at (716) 375-2242 or mhuddle@sbu.edu. ___________
Any questions or comments should be directed to Tom Missel, interim director of media relations, at (716) 375-2303 or tmissel@sbu.edu.

Current mood: hopeful
Hey all. Long time, no post to MySpace.... Too many responsibilities, I guess. This post is for all you music vultures. I'm teaching my infamous HIST432 course this semester, "The Politics of Pop: Popular Music and 20th Century American Culture." The course mixes history and cultural theory as it races across the so-called "American Century." It has been 4 years since I last went down this road--and it was quite a disaster that time! But this time around we hope for the best and we're trying a few new things. As such, I've created a blog to serve as a hub for the course and as a site for supplementing both course materials and class discussion. I'm opening up the online discussion to the public. So if anyone is interested click on the link to the blog which is called "The Politics of Pop." Let me know what you think. And of course feel free to weigh in on things as you so desire. PEACE.

OK, my pretties, tomorrow's the big day. Take 15 minutes to drag yourselves up and go vote. When the fascists steal it at least no one will be able to blame you.
My usual election night festivities have been compromised but do check out the coverage over at TC. No doubt there'll be plenty of bile to go around.
