last sunday (the 8th) illage played their debut show at the Agreeable Kids Social Club. and agreeable it certainly was. the tiny common room was host to a greater-than-often amount of people, and the line-up was similarly stuffed to the guts with variety and excellence: the most eclectic AKSC we've been to for sure. there were good vibes all round.

we were up second - more than a little un-nerving due to the skill of the previous performer (James ?) who did wonders with an electric guitar and looping gizmo. we began by introducing ourselves in musical form by means of an acoustic guitar, tambourine, and some rapping. we than continued to play our seven song set of shambolic folk, ukulele pop, novelty punk, and amateur karaoke hip-hop - armed with way too many musical instruments for two people. the songs were:

aussie hip-hop
the monkey song (both led by moo the cow)
mountain song (mr egalli's foray into freak-folk)
dodgy punk (moo cranked up the guitar)
egalli vs the unicorn eunuchs (C64 beat graciously supplied by wax + wire)
amazon dream
flavor of the week (american hi-fi cover)

we managed to fumble our way through the set, forgetting some things but remembering most of what we had practiced. on the whole we were psyched to be finally playing in front of people. thanks to all who laughed and clapped, and especially Agreeable Kids for having us.

as the afternoon stretched into evening our ears were blessed by great sets from Billy Whims, Deer Folk, Let's Not (but say we did) [set to delicious strings], and Shiver Like Timber.

we hope to rock another agreeable gathering in the near future. be prepared for more hip-hop, dancing, and snappy costumes.

disclaimer: this blog entry was dictated to trained spacemonkey typists. any errors of grammar or spelling are the result of sloppy workmanship on behalf of the monkeys (you can't trust even the brainwashed ones). illage should not be held liable.

dear friends and family of illage on myspace,

the thing about illage is that oftentimes we're more of a philosophy or an experiment than a traditional band. we don't, for example, require the traditional armory of the rock and roll band. for bands like illage instruments can get in the way. sometimes all we need is some fake flowers, tin-foil and a badly made tennis-ball hat to get the place going like Louis XVI's throwing a party with Elvis Presley in a hot air balloon. the reason for this is that we got the music in us (yeah, we got the dreaming disease).

case in point, Sunday the Twenty-ninth (of April) we had the privilege of backing Joel Saunders (myspace.com/joelsaunders) at the Agreeable Kid's Social Club (myspace.com/agreeablekidssocialclub) at the Brisbane City Library. there were a few awkward moments, and we didn't exactly contribute much musically - but we like to think that the atmostphere* was made different* by our prescence* and by our outlandish dancing and costumes. you can make your own assessment by checking out some video footage here.

we would like to thank Joel for allowing us to play and dance with him, Agreeable Kids Social Club and also "Kid Remarkable UR friendly neighbourhood superhero" for putting up the videos.

*darn monkeys!

may peace flow through your veins and love lift you higher,
mr egalli (the boutique speaker)
on behalf of illage.

blog out.

Those who have been keeping up with our bustling comments section will be aware that Joel Saunders (Joel Saunders) has invited us to perform as his backing band of sorts next week. Really, we will just be dressing up nice and weird, and dancing about while occasionally tapping at a uke, melodica and toy piano, and whatever we find is at our disposal (maybe your head!). You'll also be aware that Macca is having trouble getting our songs to work. Hang in there, brother!

Chances are, you haven't been keeping up with our 'space. Welcome to illage, a band that has barely performed for itself, yet alone anyone else. We mainly write amateur sing songs to be played with a uke or guitar, as well as developed hip hop tracks courtesy of open-source technology and samples that may or may not be copyright. Rounding out our lineup is the moo cow (space detective) who does all sorts of stuff, and mr egalli (the boutique speaker), who plays and does a range of things and also draws as well.

You should probably check out the new tracks we have up. Joining the lamentable "monkey song" it is short sample-based "musical singing sound", ukelele/toy piano odyssey "the miller" and a short rap (egalli vs. the unicorn eunuchs). Don't think that's all the material we have, though. We have a dodgy punk song, a range of songs that begin with "I was walking" and egalli just wrote some other mad as lyrics just before.

Cheers, guys. You've been great.

PS. If ever see us on a bill, seize the opportunity to see us by the girdle because chances are it'll be our first and last show!
