SPRAWL SETS A RECORD BY APPEARING ON THE COVER OF JAMAICA'S GLEANER YOUTHLINK AND OBSERVER'S TEENAGE MAGAZINE. JAMAICA'S MOST POPULAR NEWSPAPERS. THE MAGAZINES OF COURSE APPEAL TO THE YOUTH MARKET. WE WERE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE CERTAINLY SET A RECORD WITH THAT PUBLICATION. IT IS INSPIRING TO KNOW THAT PEOPLE DIG WHAT WE ARE DOING.

READ THE ARTICLES BELOW:
In a wordl where fashion has become a lifestyle and designs range from boring to downright scary, simplicity, and expression seem to be lost and one tends to become displaced and confused about what to wear. The new urban line, Sprawl Tees, with their bold look and daring designs have set out to, in a way, bring the "funny" back to Jamaican fashion by the looks of things, its not laughing matter. According to Kesi Gardner, owner and chief designer of the brand, "sprawl" means to " to lie in a dangly position, relaz or have a good time". With that in mind, the nine month old brand is for" people who don't take themselves seriously, and know how to have a good time".
Following hot on the heels of the talking tees phenemenon, Sprawl makes itself different from other brnads by offering exclusivity,"The line is differetn from other brands because only 250 of any of the designs are ever made," explained Gardner. She also added that the unique shirts would not be found in any store. In addition to only 250 of any design being made, persons can vote on what they want on the upcoming batch of shirts on their myspace pafe website. Currently, the line cater to men, but femail and children lines are in the works,"The women's line will be named Sprawl lyn and the children's line called sprawl-b," Gardner added.

Sprawltees finally in youthlink and observer!! we bus!!

SPRAWL in TEENage Observer
Started in 2001 by Kesi Gardner three days after graduating from the Pratt Institute in New York where she studied communications and design, Sprawl Tees have become a hit for TEENs.

Gardner says Sprawl comes from the Jamaican term 'Sprawl out', "take off the 'out' and it's just left as 'Sprawl' ".
"Sprawl means to 'tek it easy'," she says. So this school year, why don't you get wild in fashion and have a great time in Sprawl Wear?

And you really don't have to worry about seeing too many people in the same tee, seeing that "only 250 of each of the four designs are available", as Gardner says. "It's like a collectors item, so you will be one of 250 people with a shirt." Well, if you count the local stars who wear them. STARS WEAR SPRAWL? Yes! With the likes of Sean Paul, Cezar, Jovi Rockwell, and more, your cool factor will definitely 'heat up'.

Sprawl is a lifestyle brand. It's for people who don't take themselves (and sometimes others) too seriously. It's for people who like to lounge, relax and have a good time. To represent your own style persons can vote for the next sprawl tee on the website or on facebook. These new designs will be available in December. Check out Sprawl's website, www.sprawltees.com. Oh, and if you have Facebook. check 'em out there too!

Sprawl has officially arrived. A-Wire of Krash test dummies, a great friend of mine, Extreme Sport BMX rider and red bull sponsored rider was give the opportunity to be in Tessanne Chin, yes THE Tessanne Chin's new video called "Black books". Now being a fan from Mile High days and lover of her voice, her style and definately her attitude, without so much as a bat of an eye said" yes, you must wear the tees in the video" but hey in the world of the music business and since sprawl isnt officially a women's line as yet, well lets just say I didn't think our paths would have crossed. The stylist of the video called me, cuz A-wire went to auditions and was rocking the sprawl "wicked" tee and she said wanted the tees in the video. We were supposed to meet that night. but no call back. I thought i was forgotten. Needless to say, I wasn't mad, just a bit dissappointed.
Got sent the video today and was watching it, not expecting to see sprawl tees in the video...was I suprised! There is a scene at the end where the Krash Test dummies are doing some stunts on a mini ramp they brought into the studio. A-wire is the guy on the BMX wearing the armed & ignorant tee. There is also a guy jumping up and down in a green shirt. That is a KINGSTONIANS DO IT BETTER SHIRT! MAD!! SELL OFF!
So I went to send a special thanks to A-WIRE for wearing the sprawl tee to the video shoot. To Katherine, cuz i love you and you are in the video and you are fabulous as always! To my boy Deon Phillips!! (Ms. Jamaica world 2007,Yendi Phillips' bro, ) cuz man u hot inna the video and you have that alternative punk look that i think matches the video so well! And last but not least to Tessanne..who has given us hope that Jamaican rock/alternative music has a place in the world. Not only are you exotic looking with your Jamaican/Chinese features but you are a representative for all of us non size 2 girls (i wont even bother to say plus size) and girl your voice is insane! I am so excited to see what the next step is! OMG!

JAMROCK TEES SPEAKS TO SPRAWL'S FRONTWOMAN
Kesi Gardner: Sprawl is a distinct brand for a number of reasons.
1. It is a limited edition brand only 250 of any one design is printed.

2. The quality of the material is astounding in comparison to the other brands. It is made from a cotton poly blend, very soft to the touch, has a little stretch to it and the fit is custom designed.

3. The sayings are funny, witty and great conversation starters, they are Jamaican inspired but can easily be universal concepts.

4. Nothing is printed, without people's opinions, people are allowed to submit ideas, designs and/or vote for their fave tee and once the vote is submitted, it is tallyed and it will determine which designs are printed. The Threadless concept.

How did the idea for Sprawl come to you?
Kesi Gardner: The idea for the Sprawl t-shirt line was spawned in 2001 3 days after graduating Pratt Institute,NY. After playing around with countless ideas, but no funds to bring them to light, I returned home to Jamaican in 2002 and took a job in Advertising.
One day, I was watching a coworker design his own line of t-shirts and selling them to friends and family. I thought, "What the hell!! If he could do it i could do it too".

That name Sprawl?
Kesi Gardner: The name Sprawl comes from the Jamaican term "Sprawl out".Take off the "out" and it's just left as "Sprawl", which is a noun and a verb. Sprawl means to "tek it easy", but also "skin out", get wild and have a great time.

Who wears a Sprawl Tee?
Kesi Gardner: Sprawl is a lifestyle brand. It's for people who don't take themselves (and sometimes others) too seriously. It's for people who like to lounge, relax and have a good time. The ideas are driven by the whole message-tee phenomenon but with a Jamaican appeal. The great thing about this brand, is the uniqueness of the messages and how they reasonate with urban youth.

How has Sprawl been doing?
Kesi Gardner: The line is very young, it was launched officially in December at the members only boutique Stanley & Empress on Slipe Rd.

And Sprawl in 6 months?
Kesi Gardner: Sprawl is looking in the next 6 months, to have its tshirts on the North Coast and West Coast in hotels and tourist oriented shops.Marketing towards spring breakers and other vacationers who would like a souvenirs of their experience in Jamaica. We have intentions to expand with a line for women called Sprawl lyn, which will include baby tees and tank tops and a line for kids called Sprawl b, which will include nighties and cotton dresses and short sets.

Top three ways in which Sprawl has made you proud?
Kesi Gardner: The top 3 acheivenments have been: The response from people in theinternational market, who are excited about the product. It is said to be on par with designer tees in the US and UK market.

Secondly, Sprawl is a sponsor of Tuesday Night Live at the Village Cafe. Just being associated to this event has brought alot of attention to the brand. Heavyhitters of the event who wear the brand, include Robert Collins the owner of Village Cafe, Katherine, sultry singer, Cezar neo-soul performer, Wayne McGregor guitarist of Black Zebra and Mystic Urchin himself.

There was a write up in the Gleaner, October 6, 2006. which showcased
Sprawl and the blog. The blog is important as it allows the viewer to
vote for their favorite tshirt and that determines which design will
be printed.

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingKingstonians do it better'. 'I'm with wifey'.

They may sound quirky, but conversation fashion is the trademark of up and coming designer Kesi Gardner.

A graphic designer, illustrator and artist, Kesi is putting her designing flair to innovative use with her limited edition clothing line 'Sprawl', which is primarily a T-shirt line that capitalises on the craze for the laid-back shirts that has struck Jamaica and abroad.

A lifestyle brand, Sprawl is making the most of current slangs and mischief.

Gardner wanted a brand that was absolutely Jamaican without being cliché, yet understandable internationally.

With clothing made from soft, durable material, with colours that last, Sprawl is all about creating a vibe. It also lends itself, as the name suggests, to lounging in comfort while hinting at the more raunchy vibe of spreading out in a wanton manner. And among the young trendsetting generation of 18-24 years old, Sprawl has already began to create a stir.

Internationally known

Gardner says "The designs are not just for Jamaica. People from Turkey, New York, Japan have contacted me. I'm thinking of going to Japan soon. They love reggae and dancehall."

While not having formal training, Gardner has has managed to find unique approaches to fashion and the promotion of her line. The line will be done in limited editions, so of each set of designs only 250 are made. After those are finished another line with new tag phrases and designs is created.

"The reason why it's limited is people have been doing the same thing, so I don't want it to get old. Plus, some people don't want to see everyone in the same shirt. So 250 are made with the same designs and then another 250 are made. So you'll be in the 250 persons who possess that particular shirt," Gardner said.

Kesi Gardner started the line after seeing her co-worker selling T-shirts from the office. "A couple of months ago I was watching my co-worker design his own line of shirts and thought if he could do it I could do it too. So I used my own savings and started it," she said. Inspired by Jamaica's huge music scene, the cross culture of rock, reggae and dancehall provides her with a lot of energy.

Log on and vote

The public gets to say which designs they enjoy the most by logging on to the website, www.sprawltees.blogspot.com, where they can see the latest designs and place their votes for the next edition. Gardner says persons have been voting from across the globe. Still, it has not always been smooth sailing as store owners are not always willing to take a chance on the designs.

The present line is mostly for men and the next six may be a children's line and a women's line. The women's line would include more tank tops and fitted tops, but still with the casual look.

"People have come up to me saying there's a need for women's fashion. Girls come to me and say there's nothing for them, just foreign products," Gardner said.

Sprawl will soon be available at the Stanley and Empress store in Cross Roads, and orders can be made on the website.

The idea for the Sprawl t-shirt line was spawned on a warm summer day, in 2001 by college grad Kesi Gardner, 3 days after leaving Pratt Institute, NY. She spent countless days working on ideas but with lack of funds was unable to bring it to fruition. So, disillusioned and broke, she moved back home to Jamaica in 2002 and started working in Advertising.

One day, she was watching her coworker design his own line of t-shirts and selling them to friends and family. She thought, "What the hell!! If he could do it i could do it too". And so here she is.

The name Sprawl comes from the Jamaican term "Sprawl out".Take off the "out" and it's just left as "Sprawl", which is a noun and a verb. Sprawl means to "tek it easy", but also "skin out", get wild and have a great time. So Sprawl is a lifestyle brand. The fabric was painstakingly formulated by Gardner herself, for comfort, stlye and the absolute perfect fit.

The first set of designs are 4 unique messages and there is definately one for you. The messages are so crafted that each one can have a different meaning depending on the wearer.

There is only a small quantity of each made. 250 to be exact. So you get ONE you are the only 1 of 250 people on the planet that owns the shirt!!
These T-shirts will be available at the exclusive Stanley and Empress Boutique in Cross Roads this Christmas. If you want to know more information go to: www.sprawltees.blogspot.com

We started late, rushing to get the clothes, pick up the models and dealing with camera crew and not to mention RAIN!!!
The shoot began at 4:00. it was a mad rush to get JODI and JESSICA ready. BIG UP to the girls, they really came through. You won't even recognize them. Georgette Smith, the stylist and my partner in crime totally transformed the girls into some femme fatales.
They were down for anything and really surprised me in their abilities to just let loose and have a good time.
But at the end of the day, everything turned out beautifully!!
Retv swang by my dad's crib to view the proceedings, asked me about about the line and what we were trying to do. I was happy to talk to them about the idea behind the line and what are plans were for the future.
