Hip-House Finds Its Decade:

Twenty years after gangsta rap drove them apart, dance music and hip-hop are back together.  (Read this article and then check out what I said...   It also has a great video about the genre included)  http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/sharpdarts/090507/

Now, I would like to add that whats happening musically is more in-line with the birth of hip hop and it's dance origin than a total different thing. The beats slowed the lyrics got more intense because you could fit more cadence/flow and content into the slower beats beats; it just divided out better.

But the dance culture got divided out as well...

I agree the party essence of Crunk and the trance style synths opened up some doors for this new resurgence.

As a DJ, Crunk music's double time tempo is easily halved and mixed with popular dance music of around 120bpms.

Plus computer technology is affording interested parties (anybody with a laptop & bootleg software, hahaha) to experiment with these blending of genre's music more easily than in the past with great time & tempo stretching algorithms and not much training... So we hear combinations of music that would normally hear; good and bad!

My group the Makers of Sense is a unique combination of these genres.  By listening to our music you'll be able to hear that we do more than just mix these genre's...

Here's a what the press thinks about us:
[The sound of this new high-energy duo was praised by Urb Magazine as a “unique and original style… a breath of fresh air”, while Time Out Chicago selected their “forward-thinking, left-field rap and electro" as a Critics' Pick. Their Urban Post Electronic Dance Music combines house, hip hop, trance, vocals & live instruments.]

Makers of Sense (Playing wit' my...)

Reviewed by Ben Meredith of Urb Magazine

Makers of Sense are made up of Brother El and Cristián Huepe, an when
together, these two create an electronic fusion of dance, hip-hop, and
even some rock elements...amongst others. They have gone on their
separate paths, but music has brought the two together to spawn this
unique and original style. It's a breath of fresh air to hear what El
and Huepe have put together, but the only way to really understand it
is to listen to "Playing Wit' My..."

Makers of Sense are calling for remixes of their tracks "Much Further" and "I Know U Want Me". The band wants to provide opportunities for fans and new artist on a global scale, engaging them as part of the "Out of the Box" album release. They are using the power of Web 2.0 by posting the songs' elements on blogs, forums, and social networking sites across the internet, and calling for anyone to remix them into new versions. The remixes can then be submitted to the band through Sonicbids, a community-based website that connects musicians to opportunities provided by promoters and labels. The best entries will be included in the Makers of Sense's debut album "Out of the Box" and win a set of professional headphones plus several copies of the record. But, more importantly, the selected artists will become part of the Makers of Sense project, performing at the album release tour and participating in other promotional and artistic experiences to establish a two-way relationship with the band and their label.

"We always fill our music with new sounds and grooves that are perfect starting points for different remix versions", says Cristian Huepe a.k.a. labo_labs, one of the two members of the band, "and we think some of those versions could make great dance tracks". The band has pushed the envelope to create a different sound, in the tradition of Spank Rock, Santogold and other mavericks. They are at the forefront of today's music scene, fusing electronica, hip hop, house, trance, dub, and live instrumentation. Brother El, the other member the duo, explains what they expect from the contest, "We are mainly interested in club and dance oriented remixes that are appealing to DJs, but would also really like to get creative submissions in any other style."

The Makers of Sense have made their mark in the music scene by using innovative approaches to production and promotion. They sparked widespread interest last year by becoming the first band to offer a live act on eBay, performing at the highest bidder's 2008 New Year celebration. Later this year, they went on to win the Chicago Reader Magazine's, "Best Experimental Act for 2008". Their debut album, "Out of the Box" is scheduled for a December '08 national and international release. In their view, everything related to this record, from the tour and promotional campaign to the music, must be Out of the Box!
