While it is clearly a tragedy that a person as cool and full of life as Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter Star and Adventurer, was killed in the prime of life - I think a bit of perspective is in order here.
The man took more dangerous risks than Evel Knevieval or any of Madonna's lovers and frankly it's a bit of a surprise he lasted this long.
The phrase "don't try this at home" doesn't even come close to any kind of warning that Irwin's escapades needed to be labeled.
You can go on about how he loved wildlife and his life and adventure and how he died doing what he loved - I don't see much difference between some of the crazy stunts this guy pulled for TV from the idiots who made the Jackass TV shows and movies - in terms of risk taking and danger.
Many people think that the folks who die on Everest EACH YEAR are somehow noble, brave and living life to the fullest. If you are single, and no one depends upon you, then, okay - it's your life and if you want to freeze it to death on Everest, your choice.
But if you have children and a spouse and people who depend upon you then behavior like this is reckless, stupid and at the very least irresponsible.
I'm sure Irwin had a nice dandy life insurance policy. His family will be taken care of financially. But the loss of this man, their father, for the rest of their lives, because he cornered a deadly (don't tell me how rare this is - they ARE deadly) sting-ray, got it mad, and then, being out of his element, didn't recognize the "leave me alone or I'll sting you in the heart" warning of the fish.
Irwin - like many other foolhardy men and women who selfishly gamble their lives, are not heroes to me - for they have abused their children and families to feed their own need to experience thrills and kicks.

It takes a lot for me to feel sorry for Babs, but it seems that the people who paid a gazillion bucks for her "farewell" concert tickets a few years ago - are totally pissed off that she's doing another tour. (ONLY in America - or maybe France, too.) Seems they are fried over being porked for such high ticket prices for what they thought was the last time you could see Funny Girl live. In the ordinary go of things - fans of an entertainer would be thrilled if they came out of moth balls and amped it up again. (It is somehow creepy to see some of the old timers who used to be wiry-thin, long haired young and crazy to totter out with no hair and triple their original fighting weight on the "in it for the money tour." But Streisands fans, in their collective pain, are filing a class action lawsuit to express their frustration - oh it's the money, not the principle. I say go Barbara - but please, this time, just shut up and sing, and spare us the political rantings about conservation as you fly in your prvate jet to a parking lot full of Escalades and massive SUVs. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Hugs not drugs, Rick Butts
