Current mood:  thankful
Category: Religion and Philosophy
Did you thank God today? Did you thank Him that you live in a country where you are free to come and go as you please? That you can get food, what ever food you want, whenever you want, because it is available? Did you thank Him for the roof you have over your head? Did you thank Him for opportunities you have remembering that whether or not you choose to take to advantage of them is up to you?

In light of the the disasters in the world today will you remember to thank the Lord that you only have to deal with inconvenience and not disaster?

Pray for relief for those in China who were struck by the earthquake with a death toll now over 10,000 and many thousand more that are now starving for lack of food and lack shelter as 80% of the buildings in some areas collapsed.

Pray for those in Myanmar who were struck by the cyclone killing perhaps 100,000 and whose government won't let the world come to their aid to get food to the starving and homeless population.

Pray for those thousands in Chile who have had to evacuate their towns after a volcano begans spewing ash where there hasn't been an eruption for more than 2000 years.

Pray for those in the US who are being struck by disaster here: Wildfires in Florida; the many areas where the tornados have taken their tolls.

This is a short list of the disasters being faced by people in the world just today...

Did you thank God?

Are these birthing pains?  (Matthew 24:8)

I Will Not Be Silent

             © 2008 NKB

My child, don't ask me to be silent
And allow you to get hurt
When I see the danger you are in

My child don't ask me to be silent
When I see those who would harm you
Masquerading as fun companions

I will not be silent
And let you continue down a road
That leads to death
When love will set you free

I will not be silent
Allowing lies to be spoken as truth
When the truth will set you free

I will not be silent
As I watch you struggle with pain
As I watch you struggle with death
As I watch your freedom to choose
Be taken away by those who say,
"You have no choice, you were born this way"
I will speak out in love in my actions
I will speak life and truth
I will show you the Father's love for you
His heart that is waiting for you
To be open to receive His love

I will not be silent
My beliefs are mine and if they disagree with yours
Do we not BOTH have the right to free speech?
Or is free speech only available to those who agree with you?
I will not be silenced by your freedom at the expense of mine

I will not keep silent watching as people hurt one another
I will not keep silent when by speaking I can release life
I will not keep silent when I see any person
    physically abuse another
I will not keep silent when I see any person
    verbally abuse another
I will not keep silent and make agreement with things
I find hurtful to another in body, mind or soul
I will not keep silent to go along with the crowd
I will not be silent and allow my opinion to have no voice
I will not be silent and allow my children not to have a choice
I will not keep silent as I watch the thought police gaining strength
I will not keep silent as you take away my freedom
by imposing your freedom on me and my children
I will not be silent

If are all free to live as we choose then I should be free
    to disagree with your choices
Freedom allows us to agree to disagree
Freedom allows us to live peaceably though we disagree

My prayer is always for you to find love, to know love
To experience the eternal love the Father has just for you.
My prayer is for you to find your dreams come true
Your destiny to be fulfilled
For you to find absolute peace
And that you choose to accept it as the gift it is

This past Tuesday night on ’American Idol’ I was pleasantly surprised by Jason Castro singing Dolly Parton’s "Travelin’ Through". You couldn’t miss "JESUS" in that song (lyrics included below). I was even more amazed on Wednesday’s results show when Jesus was sung out clearly in two more songs.

The Clark Brothers, performed "This Little Light of Mine." They were the ’winners’ of "The Next Great American Band" last December. Though I didn’t particularly like the punk bluegrass guitar ending. I did like the words they used (posted below). The song sounds better on their myspace page:

Then Dolly Parton  sang her new song "Jesus & Gravity"
After the performance, Dolly joked with host Ryan Seacrest, saying "I’ve got Jesus and you’ve got Simon!"  and Ryan’s response was, "I got the short end of the stick." You can see Dolly’s performance here:

The lyrics:

TRAVELIN’ THROUGH’

Well I can’t tell you where I’m going, I’m not sure of where I’ve been
But I know I must keep travelin’ till my road comes to an end
I’m out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it
I’m a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit

Like a poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song
I’m just a weary pilgrim trying to find what feels like home
Where that is no one can tell me, am I doomed to ever roam
I’m just travelin’, travelin’, travelin’, I’m just travelin’ on

Questions I have many, answers but a few
But we’re here to learn, the spirit burns, to know the greater truth
We’ve all been crucified and they nailed Jesus to the tree
And when I’m born again, you’re gonna see a change in me

God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain
Oh sweet Jesus if you’re out there, keep me ever close to you
As I’m stumblin’, tumblin’, wonderin’, as I’m travelin’ thru

The Clark Brothers: "THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE"

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.....
Jesus is the light, I’m gonna let Him shine....
I won’t let Satan blow it out, I’mm gonna let Him shine...

Jesus on the main line, tell Him what you want...
You can ring Him up, dial Him up and tell Him what you want
You can go direct, don’t delay, tell Him what you want
Jesus on the main line now

And if you need a healing, tell Him what you want....

A Call to Arms and Intimacy
    by Nancy Benavides ©2007

Love and war
We wage them both
Interchanging
Intertwined
Until we forget who we are
What love is
And what we are fighting against

We turn our face
From the Source of our strength
To face a gnat
That irritates us
Waging war
Against an unseen enemy
Flailing in the dark
We let the lamp go out

Love calls
Like a gentle summer breeze
Rustling through the leaves
Refreshing comes
As oil for the lamp
Light bathes us again
As we return to the ranks

War cries
Stand in truth
Righteousness covering your heart
Walk in the peace of the good news
Displaying a shielded of faith
Under the covering of salvation
Wielding the Spirit sword
Intercede

Awareness comes
As we face the Son
Listening
To Holy Spirit whispers
Applying
Kingdom principles
Living Loves way
Grafted into the vine

Current mood:  triumphant
Category: Writing and Poetry
I was listening to music the other day and I like ALL kinds of music. Unfortunately the words of most rap music make it almost unbearable.... So I wrote my own 'rap' as a response:

RAPPIN' BACK AT YA
    © 2008 Nancy Benavides

I hear 'em
All cursin' and swearin'
(What is it they're wearin'?)
Thinkin' their rich
Livin' in the ditch
Feedin' on the bottom
Cause the enemy's got 'em

They can't see
They're poor, naked and blind
Satan's crawled all up in their mind
Hasn't got no legs for standin'
He's just crawlin' and bendin'
Livin' on lies
Food for the flies

Why is it
If you're so cool
Why act the fool
Playin' that game
Only brings you shame
The emptiness you feel
Ya, it's real

Change sides
Make a choice
Tame your voice
Be real about it
Never have to doubt it
The void 'll be filled
By the blood already spilled

One day soon
Truths gonna end him
Lord's gonna send 'em
Where the fire will end him
No escaping this truth
No excuse for the youth
God sent His Son
Game's already won
