Lúnasa Duo, Kevin Crawford and Cillian Vallely have recently released a new album entitled 'On Common Ground'.

Tracks and further info on their MySpace.

The combination of uilleann pipes and flute is rare in duet recordings of traditional music and the duo have utilised the unique tonal qualities of their flat-pitched ‘C’ instruments to record the music on this album. The tunes have been sourced from various manuscripts, archives and field recordings but there are also a number of new, self-composed pieces.  In addition, Kevin and Cillian play a variety of low whistles and are accompanied on guitar by two of Ireland's most recognised and respected guitarists, Donal Clancy and Paul Meehan.

Lúnasa News!

Hello friends and welcome to another Lúnasa newsletter.

After a hectic summer of weddings, workshops, festivals, community projects, studio recording and TV appearances the Lúnasa boys are currently performing in Europe for the Celtic Super Night Tour with some of Ireland's most celebrated musicians.

Two more of the Lúnasa boys finally tied the knot but working wedding and honeymoon plans into a busy summer schedule is not easy. Both couples; Trevor and Frances, Paul and Christine got married on the same weekend in early August. The celebrations were mighty and in all honesty we are just recovering!

Back from honeymoons with little time to unpack the bags the boys were in the UK for a holiday weekend of festivals (regardless of the weather). Their Leitrim residency project continued with the final part of the recording and a very unusual photo shoot on a house boat for the album documenting the Lúnasa term. The CD will be released early in 2009 with launch gigs to celebrate. Further information about that soon to be announced.

The other big recording project of the year was Lúnasa's involvement with Natalie Merchant on her next release. The boys spent a very enjoyable week with Natalie and her team in Rhinebeck, NY, expressing their musical talents as never before! We can't wait to hear it....as soon as we know when it's available we will let you know.

Joining the Lúnasa's on the tour are Máirtín O'Connor's band featuring Cathal Hayden & Seamie O'Dowd and Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, you can just imagine the stories being told on that tour bus....!

Lúnasa will be back in Glasgow in January for Celtic Connections and start their US tour late February.

All the confirmed tour dates can be found on the site or by following this link http://www.lunasa.ie/lunasa.php?mp=34

Lúnasa on the TV

The new series of Geantraí on TG4 is now being aired. Lúnasa will be on the programme from Liam Cryan's bar in Carrick on Shannon going out this Sunday the 23rd at 10pm and repeated Friday 28th at 8pm. A famous spot for trad music, a night in Cryan's is a must if travelling to Leitrim - the county (and Cryan's) has become a second home for the Lúnasa's over the last 18 months or so.

BBC NI invited the band to the 10th birthday celebrations of the Blas Ceoil radio programme in Belfast. The TV prog including our good friend John Spillane and Hothouse Flowers has already been on the TV but is sure to be repeated at some stage. Congrats to Lynette and all the team on the 10 years - how the years fly....

Lúnasa Shop!

Well it's that time of the year again and we all need inspiration for Christmas gift ideas. Bearing in mind the current financial climate we have kept our low prices on the back catalogue of albums and reduced our merchandise prices as much as we can.

A couple of new special offer packages will be going live on the shop in the next week so please stop by for a look.

Don't forget orders to many countries (including the U.S.) are less tax so there are even more savings.

Other news....

Our good friend Don Stiffe has just released a new single 'Home on time for Christmas'  featuring our own Kevin on whistle alongside Sharon Shannon, Declan Corry, Jimmy Higgins and Frankie Colohan. It is a song of welcome for Irish scattered all over the world hoping to be home on time for Christmas eve.

The proceeds of the CD will go to Croí, The West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation so please support, its only 4.99 and an ideal stocking filler! Available from Zhivago and all good record shops. Further information at www.croi.ie or visit Don's MySpace to have a listen www.myspace.com/donstiffe
