Frontiers_magazineThis week, it's official.  The secrets to clearing clutter and becoming more organized have been revealed.

We were interviewed this week by Journalist Assia Mortensen for an article in Frontiers Magazine, Southern California's largest LGBT magazine.

The biweekly publication focuses on "gay and lesbian lifestyle" as much as hard news, featuring sections on Arts & Entertainment and Living.  The "Living" part is where we come in with an impressive four-page spread.

This week's huge (206-page) issue features our thoughts on how the professional organizing industry is now moving mainstream, and how different communities will benefit (there are organizers who claim to be especially talented at organizing lesbian couples, and another organizer who specializes in keeping an organized kosher kitchen.)

Sweepstakes_header

After we posted about the Rubbermaid Organizer Sweepstakes yesterday, a reader let us know about another contest, this time sponsored by Real Simple Magazine and Unilever.

For this contest, all you have to do is pen a personal tip for making the most of your summer time.  The $10,000 winner also gets one private session a personal home organizer who will provide advice on the best use of your backyard space and guide you on your purchase of backyard makeover materials (grill, table, chairs, umbrella, swing set, etc.).

Seeing the issue reminded us that we're being highlighted in the August 2007 issue.

"I am looking to find a good number of wine crates to use for creative displays, organization, shipping, etc. and I was wondering if you knew of any great places in Los Angeles that would donate them, or let me take them off their hands.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Signed, "Kevin Looking for Crates""

Wine_cratesHi Kevin-- Okay, time to stop wining (we just had to say that).  Any crates (wine or whatever) you snag will probably be unfinished or even raw-- made of pine.  I wonder of the quality?  Make sure they're clean, too.

Earlier this month, I participated in the Neat Receipts "Neat News" by writing an article about personalizing your technology.

The newsletter is sent out to over 10,000 customers and was such fun to write.

I just love my Neat Receipts software.  I've scanned receipts, event invitations, old client files and lots and lots of checks, business cards and magazine articles.  The Philadelphia-based company took the time out last month to attend the National Association of Professional Organizers Conference in Minneapolis.  It was great to meet some of the staff and swap stories.

Expressstorebox_3 Here's a short tip from the piece:

A friend of mine is designing a small shed that will serve as a location for potting and gardening supplies.

While the idea of a "potting shed" is very chic, the reality may be very different.  A lot of stuff will be stored and a whole lotta activity will be taking place, in a small quarters.  That's why it pays to be organized.

The sunny and warm weather in LA takes a toll on your time.  The calendar really never slows down; some sort of planting takes place all year long.  Since organic gardening is becoming uber chic all over again, Angeleans are getting back to basics, and doing it themselves (or of course, getting someone else to do it, and claiming they do it all themselves.)

When a fire destroyed her home, Betsy Kramer discovered what is truly important in life.  She now shares her knowledge with others, through her professional organizing business Cash In Clutter, based in Elysburg, Pennsylvania, three hours west of Philadelphia.

Here's a bit of Betsy's bio:

"When I lost everything tangible in my life, I felt very vulnerable. Digging through bags of donated clothes I felt very humble. Surrounded by only my family and not my things I felt very loved. Through it all I discovered who I was. It was such a blessing."

"Dr. James Dobson, a popular Evangelist, claims that Americans are living their lives in a "routine panic." We have put such a high importance on things that the people in our lives often suffer."

In Betsy's column for Clever Parents, she notes the 11 top places where clutter accumulates:

We're participating in a fundraiser this Satuday, for a local school.

Regardless of some critics, there still are terrific schools spread around Los Angeles.  To make ends meet, these schools hold fundraisers every now and then to help pay for the librarian, physical education and music teachers, field trips, books art supplies and office equipment.

In the hills above Laurel Canyon (near our office) is Wonderland Avenue Elementary School.  The school's Gifted Magnet program attracts students from all over the city, with over 440 in attendance each day.

Saturday's Woodstock Wonderland-event, to benefit Wonderland School, will be held at CBS Radford in Studio City.  CBS Radford has hosted such television shows as Gunsmoke, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, My Three Sons, Gilligan's Island, The Bob Newhart Show, Seinfeld and most recently, Big BrotherWe're donating a gift certificate valid for an entire day of office organizing, staff, and supplies.
