2008 was a pretty fine year. we made a record with our main man Ben Carey and put it out all by ourselves with the wonderful mastering help of Sir Jesse Marks. We played a lot of shows. Met lots of wonderful people. Copped a Thin Lizzy Audio Cassette Tape in Winona, Minnesoata. Learned that its pronounced winona not Whynona. Saw a lot of really great music at the Dakota, saw some of the best music Ive ever seen at teh Deep Blues Festival in july. learned a lot of stuff. forgot about a lot of stuff. Ate alright. drank real nice. danced a little and down the line some people seen fit to write stuff about us. Heres some recent stuff that people have said:

CITY ON THE MAKE, 1,000,000

The new EP by City on the Make accomplishes more than most local full-length albums released this year do, combining the grit and swagger of a blues band with the ferocity of lead singer Mike Massey's frenetic growl and the flippant punk energy of his backup gang/band. And on top of it all, they know how to construct a solid pop hook: A revisitation of their single "Chicks on Bikes" immediately floods the brain with memories of summer, melting away the doldrums of these cold winter days with the shimmer of a sunny guitar riff and the chorus, "This has been a hot, hot summer in my life/Chicks on, chicks on, chicks on bikes." —Andrea Swensson (CITY PAGES)

7. City on the Make - "$1,000,000"
Poetic, raw outsider rock from a blues band who's lead singer and songwriter combines Springsteen's passion with Joe Cocker's convulsive stage presence.

9.City On the Make - $1,000,000 EP
"Chicks on, chicks on, chicks on bikes" was my anthem for the summer as my girlfriends and I sang it repeatedly biking around the city. Lead poet Mike Massey is as fun to watch as he is to listen to, and with new bionic knees to keep him bouncing, I can't wait for the new material that's promised to come soon. -Staciann

And theres more too, which completely blows our collective mind.

Thank you to everybody who has come out to shows, and supported us along the way in any manner. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We hope to see you all very soon. Have a bangin new year.

Thank you to Chris Riemenschneider for the nice write up this weekend in Strib and Vita.mn. Take a look here.
Star Tribune Article.

Also, I wanted to point out that we posed on purpose to resemble a portrait of one of our favorite rag tag groups, not that we condone making light of the POW experience or anything, but just that Hogan's Heroes has really got us through thick and thin in the past. It was a conceptual effort, to really pay homage to our influences.
