The power of the sound of the universe is reflected in how healing traditions around the world work with mantras, including the system of Reiki. Find out about the experience of mantra through Julia Claire - ex-pop singer, Yoga teacher, professional singer and dancer and Reiki teacher who lives in Spain.

Frans and Bronwen Stiene interview Julia about how after a near-death experience she became involved with mantra and what effect it has had on her life and that of her audiences.

Julia talks about:

how Reiki influenced the style of music she performed taking her from being a pop singer to creating songs with the healing power of mantra

how unblocking the subconscious through Reiki supported her music career

Sirisat Julia Claire - Searching 'Ong Namo'

I have to admit I was highly skeptical (oops almost wrote sceptical which is another thing entirely) with this whole 'Friends' lark Soundclick has been running but - surprisingly enough - the silly thing actually works. I've met some great new people since I started really working the whole MySoundclick: Members Pages thingie, many of them eye opening musicians and an indication of how Soundclick never fails to deliver some very surprising musicians.

Sirisat Julia Claire has been one of my new finds and I just thought I'd give you guys the heads up too. Judging by her interview page, she has been active in the real world for some time, even having a couple of albums released a while ago and she's working with a whole raft of other musicians (Carles Reig, Pep Rius and Ernesto Briceño) - all connected in some way to Ohm Records (or is that Ohmm.com) Yep, Julia is a yoga teacher/singer/dancer from the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain, and her musical work is informed by her philosophy so expect some extremely chilled-out music for body and soul.

Ahhh now your looking a lot more interested...

As you should be because, no matter what your preference, a track where everything happens just so is a prime candidate for attracting attention. Despite its obviously spiritual overtones and approach, Searching Ong Namo is a instantly likeable track any level you care to name.

Welcoming and warm in the way Enya often is, although I have to say having evoked that image, Sirisat (and musical mainstay/producer Carles Reig) operate on an entirely different level. For sure there is a massive European influence stylistically and lyrically - and another reference my brain made was to Ilona, who operates in much the same musical field. However, as is usual, time and repeated plays really cracked this gem of a track open and although I don't normally go for this kind of thing, the musical muscle on display in this track is absolutely terrific, and worth the listen alone. The breakdown just after 7:00 in particular being a joy in and of itself.

However good (nay stunning) the music and production are, they are still topped by Sirisat Julia's incredibly professional singing (and a very nice video she makes too). Let me put it like this, if you can't get past the first minute of this track, then the whole eight minutes and change it runs for will be of no use to you. You will not have recognised the skill, patience and dedication it took to bring this to your ears and I would guess your life would be poorer for it.

In this world of home/garage recording it's a pleasure to hear 'the real thing' and done so well, the only thing you need to worry about is whether you will like the style. There again, it covers so much musical ground in it's length, that I'm sure almost anybody could find a bit they liked.

Personally, I think there is a huge market for such material, and it's nice to know that at least I've heard one of the very best - in every way. If it sounds like I love this track, I do but I am professional enough to look REAL hard at anything I could pick apart and there isn't anything. At all. Seamless, that's the word.

It was an honour to be invited to present my new music video and share my Celestial dance meditations in the world tour of the White Tantric Yoga event in Barcelona, Spain this year.

All Kundalini Yoga practice begins "tuning in" chanting with the Mantra "Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo" as a reverent greeting uniting our souls with the Universal Divine Wisdom.

After chanting this Mantra in it´s traditional ancient form we presented the first public inauguration of the new music video of the song "Searching - Ong Namo" inspired  by these sacred sounds.

It was a beautiful occasion to introduce all the people who have made this work of art possible; and thank them in public with warm applause; Firstly my musical producer and dear friend Carles Reig, and in particular the film director Carlos de Cozar who felt the presence of our great Yoga audience for the first time.

Around four hundred people from different countries and particularly from all over from Spain had travelled to attend this wonderful occasion.

As always White Tantra Yoga has a very powerful energy and at the end of the first day of preparation for the event, dancing and singing "Celestial" together was a joyful uplifting experience for all of us present.

The healing circle of meditation with the mantra song "Ra Ma Da Sa" was particularly powerful and energizing, and I was very grateful to sing again in the closing ceremony this Sunday dancing and chanting again with my yogic friends in showers of rose petals...

It is my wish is to spread love and light through my music and new music video to wider audiences, and I trust that the artistic imagery will help captivate and transmit this message to inspire many others to search within to encounter their own inner source of light and peace.

Peace to all,

Light to all,

Love to all,

Sirisat

Julia Claire (Sirisat) was already on the stage before she was born in Surrey, England when her mother was the leading soprano in "The Beggar's Opera' with her father, baritone & jazz musician.
In her early childhood she played the piano by ear and danced and sang whever she heard music. Her close contact with the performing arts soon lead her to wish to be a ballet dancer and she studied at Elmhurst Ballet School, Surrey,  where she received her professional training of Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary Dance, and Drama and Theatre Arts qualifying with the London Royal Academy.
At thirteen she was given her first part as an actress in the BBC series "A Little Princess".
Julia taught herself the guitar composing her first song at the age of nine and began singing professionally at the age of fifteen, accompanying her own Folk and Celtic style compositions.

She performed in her first stage musical in England a year later, followed by a television series, danced ballet as a leading fairy, and later joined a modern dance company as a solo singer and assistant choreographer to tour Europe.

Her first recording contract in 1987 lead her to base her life between England and Spain where the Maxi single "A Summer Romance" became top of the charts.  This record launched Julia's singing career and she performed in concerts and on numerous television programmes, with her own band and dancers. She continued to create her personal style of dance music recording "Cat in Disguise", "Classical" and her first LP "My Psycollection" produced by Tullio Tonelli. These hit songs are presently re-edited by Blanco y Negro in "Diamonds Collection" and "2 Decades of Dance".

At this time Julia begins her Yoga practice, receiving her spiritual name "Sir¡ Sat Kaur" (The princess who manifests the greatest truth) from the Master Yogi Bhajan. She records Mantras, music for yoga and meditation in Holland; "Peace of Mind" with Matamandir Singh and "Prosperity and Success" edited by Golden Temple. After qualifying as a Yoga teacher she studies healing, natural diagnosis, floral and gemstone therapy and becomes a Reíkí Master.

Contracted by Max Music, (now Vale music) in 1995 Julia becomes the voice of "Promise" recording House-dance-trance tracks "The Promise", "The way you live the way you Love", "Think", "Running", by Information Society, "A Girl like You" and "Don't Give me Up" with the group "Speed Limit".

Reaching a turning point in her musical career; wishing to record her own compositions with a spiritual message she changes record label to Tir Terra Records as lead vocalist and lyric writer with a new age group, Terra lead by Carles Reig, her present producer. Together they record Terra "Natura" in 1997, recording several video clips for the T.V.E. programme "Hidrogen", and also record the album "Celtic Dreams".

Presently Julia Claire and Carles Reig are united in their new project with Ohm Spirit Sound Records. Carles brings Julias dream to life producing her mantra song compositions in her two most recent albums "Celestial" and "Mantra Chill Out", spiritual music to uplift, heal and bring harmony and inner peace

Julia creates a form of dance meditation through her mantra inspirations which she currently teaches in workshops and performs on stage with the presentation of her new albums, a fusion of sacred Sanskrit sounds which she channels through meditation into songs in English with inspirational melodies, acoustic instruments, synthesizers, electronic sounds and atmospheric ambient rhythms.

Her latest radio singles, "Healing" & Protection", included in both new albums has been welcomed and praised by the critics and Julia unites her stage experience and spiritual discovery to express her music in live performance with contemporary dancers and musicians.

"Everything we learn through our lives enables us to share this gift of music for a purpose... May all musicians & artists share our talents to acheive our highest aspirations... and spread joy, love and peace through our universal language"

To end this year, my producer Carles Reig and I  had a wonderful concert experience last night with the presence of all our dear friends, dancers and musicians.

The Apolo venue was packed, and the audience participated all the way through, and my new contemporary dancers were extrordinary... We are producing a video of this concert which I look forward to adding to my page.

This beautiful fulfilling experience of expressing my music live on stage brings me hope and faith for the new year.

I am blessed to have met so many wonderful, talented and kind people on MySpace. I wish you all joy, peace, and every success for this new year, and look forward to sharing our future musical adventures...

May all our dreams come true in 2007!

I have just recorded a new ambient / chill song spiced with a real gypsy flavour of flamenco guitar called "In the Lines", which is currently being released worldwide through "Blue Flame Records" in Germany. The music captures you immediately, & the lyrics are about our destiny being written in the lines of our hands...  Now was this song really meant to happen? If you know that "coincidences" never occur, you will appreciate this story...

Amazingly this recording happened thanks to a radio interveiw I was on in Barcelona, that Pep Lladó heard, & got in touch with me through my website. It turns out we are almost neighbours!

This is my first collaboration with the experienced & wonderful composer, musician & producer, Pep LLadó who lives very near me in the beautiful mountains of the inner coastline towards Costa Brava, Spain near Barcelona. Singing in his studio with forest views, decorated with tapestries from his last trip to India is such a pleasure.
Thank you Pep, for finding me! I think we´ve started an interesting new style of music between us, & hope to continue in the new year....It´s also great that you´ve joined us on Myspace!

The journey of a Mantra Song...
Composing a Mantra songs begins at home, inside, meditating and letting the creativity flow playing my guitar and hearing the message of the mantra which become the lyrics.
Then I start sharing this music with my Yoga class, where I can feel the feedback and the energy that the sound is creating.
This idea transforms when it connects with computer technology and through the hands of a musical producer. I can then translate the inspiration into many tracks of rthythms, harmonies and amazing new electronic synth sounds.
The possibilities become endless and I enjoy the journey through the musical creation as much as the outcome.... the final song.
Right now I am working on a Wish," Ardas Bayee..." a wish of love, a wish of blessing to open our hearts through mantra. This is where my new project starts, to create a a new album.
I want it to be like life itself, full of contrasts, soul searching and dancing with joy and energy of the Infinite. Then the journey continues until the music comes to the ears of the receiver...to you.
Thank you to all the talented musical souls by my side, especially Carles Reig, my dearest friend & musical "brother" who has beleived in & produced  "Celestial" and "Mantra Chill Out" with such incredible dedication & musical knowledge, & to all of you who are making this journey possible.

In collaboration and harmony as musicians we can enjoy making something much greater than we could do alone.

"Walking through this mystery of life,
I float from darkness into light...
I'm searching for the path of truth,
Let the Universal Sound take me to you..."

My concert in "Excellence", Barcelona last Friday was a very moving experience...  Unexpected magical friends turned up, and by the third song everyone began participating with the mantras and  the meditation mudras. I will never forget seeing everyone holding their hands up in a pyramid mudra over their heads, chanting together, creating such powerful energy that brought many people to tears of joy, including myself, feeling so blessed and full of gratitude. Thank you to my dearest friends Carlos Reig for producing Celestial & Mantra Chill Out, playing your amazing drums and percussion, Cristina Santiró for the costumes & "atrezzo", Ellen Weissbuch for always dancing by my side, (on and off stage!).Whilst I was signing albums after the concert my 7 year old son Shama / Gerard gave us a wonderful drum solo!
