A. just rode the big bird back from Japan. Chopko is dusting off his desert smock. Breezy is putting fins to water.

1) S.F. Gate previewed our Amnesia show a few weekends back. It was a blast. Pete New stepped in on drums and slayed. King Rich and Breezy took the end of Sirens for a nice, long ride. Here's what S.F. Gate said:

"Listening to Dame Satan is a dimly lit room where you won't notice the pop of the ice cube in your scotch glass or that you're on your sixth cigarette....when you promised yourself only one....just one cigarette, to fully experience what lurks under the soul of Dame Satan. Enjoy their pop folk with hefty dark sensibility."

Interesting.

2) Some U.K. spots have been taking notice as well:

"You'd like to think it's the sound Mountain Men would make. Dark, eerie and pitted with primal instincts, the second long-player from San Francisco's Dame Satan is an untamed strain of earthy Americana that sounds like nothing else on the planet. With its bubbling undercurrent of blues and a wide-eyed enthusiasm for wild British psychedelia, 'Beaches & Bridges' sounds like strung-out Grateful Dead records being played backwards. As such, it's a revelation. It takes a good half a dozen listens to begin to fully appreciate this record. Early on and you're wrestling with the frustration of a seemingly lethargic tempo, a rickety old production and vocals that seem to be yawned rather than sung. Yet with each spin these idiosyncrasies strangely become the attractions; Andrew Simmons' bourbon-flecked vocals creating a richly-evocative Americana heart to the music, whilst the loose production lends the music vitality and a really potent level of intimacy. From there on in you are suckered into a strange and weird world where Fleet Foxes-esque harmonies, filthy hicksville banjo, synth moans and proggy feedback tussle for attention. 'Country Thief' is the album's calling card, a sprawling chunk of seven minutes worth of post-folk that sounds like Sigur Ros would if they'd been reared by bears in the deep Appalachians. Come the end you're left wide-eyed and staring at the stereo trying hard to remember where the fuck you are. On 'Beaches & Bridges' Dame Satan have pointedly frayed the edges of traditional Americana and re-weaved them into a brave new sound. It's dark and foreboding; it'll also leave you nervous and edgy but, by god, will it make you desperate to experience the whole thing over and over again. " -- Fresh Deer Meat

"San Francisco based Dame Satan's second LP is an interesting blend of blues, gentle psychedelia, and American and English folk. Opening track "Downstream" sets the slightly odd, unsettling mood, seeming to awaken as if from a dream and building gradually, offset by the ethereal, suspended vocals. "Suffering Daughter" is a pretty slice of psychedelic Appalachia, and "Dawn and Delta" is oddly reminiscent of early Verve (if transported from Wigan to backwoods America), whereas tracks "The Struggle" and "Puget Sound" bear more the mark of the blues. Final number "The Golden Iranian" has echoes of Fleet Foxes, though Dame Satan seem content to plough their own off-kilter furrow rather than cash in on any recent trends for this type of otherworldly American music." - Americana U.K.

"Playing a strange mix of folk and creeping psychedelia, the oddly named Dame Satan are well worth hearing, their latest album “Beaches and Bridges” filled with atmospheric songs that feature Banjo, electric guitar, and excellent vocals. Highlights include the creepy opener “Downstream”, the country tinged stomp of “The Struggle” and the slow beauty of “Oregon Trail”. Mind you, there is not a lax moment one the disc. " -- Terrascope

3) We are coming to the East Coast from April 18-26. We will be a quartet: A. on Vocals/Electric Rhythm Guitar/Synthesizer, Chopko on Electric Bass/Vocals/Percussion, Breezy on Electric Lead Guitar/Percussion/Vocals, and Phil C. on Drums/Synthesizer. Come see us.

One Love, East Coast. Our flurry of shows out there was a grip of good times. It was amazing to have classic AV-bro Phil C. handling traps set and synthesizer for most of the gigs. We cannot wait to play some more shows with this talented jah-brone. Big thanks to everyone who helped out and/or came out, especially parents and good old COD. Way to finally man up, dude! Next track! Anyway, it was lovely seeing you guys and also playing for you guys. Please enjoy your sneaky copies of Beaches and Bridges and those sick new tee-shirts. Oh yeah, guess what? Atlantic Corridor: We're going to get back at you in September! Yeah, yeah, yeah! But, don't even stress, Midwestern Studs: Look out, Cleveland, the storm is comin' through! Yes, yes yes! We're even going to go down South a bit and do some major snacking.

For now, West Coast, you'd better but on your protective goggles and duck and cover, because we are coming for your asses. Catch us later this month in Santa Cruz, Davis, and SAN FRANCISCO AT EL RIO ON SATURDAY, APRIL 26, FOR OUR SOPHOMORE ALBUM'S KILLER RELEASE PARTY ALSO STARRING BLACK FICTION, THE CHAPIN SISTERS, EARTHEN SEA, AND LEGENDARY DJ MR. WHITE. Don't flake on this shit. What's more, we have more special times planned -- a few additional lovely S.F. engagements plus a SoCal visitation featuring Birds and Batteries, swimming pool, those amazin' Chapins, Fadeweiser, tacos, and Joshua Tree. Speaking of Fadeweiser, we are brewing our own beer and that is what it wil be called. I think some bros in Nevada City want to have a contest. Anyway, ours will taste like Colorado Kool-Aid and, of course, win. If you don't know what Colorado Kool-Aid is, you need to ask somebody. Oh, and we'll most probably go back up to the Pacific Northwest before September so you dudes and dudettes up there can get your cozy paws on our new platter.

That's maybe all for now?

snakily yours, DS

P.S.: Received some nice press on the 7-incher from The Wire. Apparently, we remind Byron Coley of cassette-tradin' jam bands. That's okay with us!
