seems like we're finally heading towards the end of the recording period, into the fixing/mixing by the end of the month (*knock on wood)... geez... who couldve thought it would last this long. cant even think back to when this was initiated. within this time even arctic monkeys got their shit recorded n put out, etc, etc... it's sounding very very interesting... man.. dunno... funk/shoegaze/disco/r&b kinda thing? weird out. of course all this can still change in the next however long. who knows, right?

recording is going v well. trying out so much stuff... venturing into places both aesthetically n emotionally that we're uncomfortable in.. it's scary n melancholic n ultimately rewarding... I think. dunno how all this will eventually shape up. still a while to go. to our label's credit they've been very patient. hopefully everything'll come together okay. hmmm

this dude chris n I met at kinko's/fed ex branch in evanston. he spoke with an accent, middle eastern or eastern european, we couldn't tell precisely. upon trying to peel off a sticker/form needed to send our package off he complained in a very eloquent manner of how inhuman it was to for the designers to design such an abhorrous piece of inefficiency. then he continued to recite a tale of how he came across a shop called prayer for solutions and the absurdity of the concept, then quoted dostoyevsky's man building a crystal palace then tearing it down, before apologizing for referring to us as "clients". he was by far the most interesting/empathic person I'd come across for a while. and the tragedy of him working as a fed ex clerk heightened this appreciation. maybe this is condescending of me... then there is frank, the owner of a diner/cafe in the town next to ours. he asked our names this time we had a waffle there, and has not forgotten em since. he is very kind hearted and friendly and has a story for every topic. his brother booked the beatles when they came to milwaukee in the 60's. he used to spray silly strings on cars as a prank when he was a kid. he treated the local teenagers who work for him very respectfully n fatherly (he himself a father of a girl, I seemed to learn). this one time chris n I decided to go to racine, the nearest city in our viccinity. it's a tiny city in comparison to milwaukee or chicago. we stopped at a coffee joint for breakfast. in the middle of munching on our sandwiches this woman came over to us and asked us for a light. we told her we didnt smoke. she sat down beside us and asked us where we were from. then we just struck up a conversation. she said she was on a "soul searching" journey (which we still need to find out the definition of) and she pulled out a folder full of clippings of things she found positive or of interest. amongst them were drawings that her daughter made. she gave us a picture of a road, from a magazine, to keep us safe on our trip. then she gave us a piece of chocolate each. she then went out to have a cigarette n we lost her. she never wanted anything from us. then there's scott, our dear friend and sound engineer. he is one of the most giving, positive person Ive ever met. he is ready to help you with anything at anytime. I have yet to see him in a bad mood ever. even if he was he wouldnt let his positive outlook slide. his aura is so affecting and contagious, you would want to be around him always.
