Rane will end its 6 month hiatus from gigging with a performance the night after Thanksgiving at the Main Pub in Manchester, CT. This will mark the first time the band has played together since the late spring, as band member took time off for various projects including weddings, school and vacation. From there the band will play in sporadic line up formations including acoustic duo, trios, quartet, quintet, and expando Rane in Southern New England throughout the winter, including an acoustic trio date at the Stonewall Tavern in Mansfield, CT on December 6th, and a full band performance at Up or On The Rocks on December 12th. A run of winter dates will be released in the coming weeks on the tour page.

Fireside Songs with Alan from Rane
Alan Veniscofsky, guitarist and vocalists for the Connecticut band Rane, will be performing a series of acoustic shows celebrating the area singer songwriters and bands he has recorded, produced and performed with over the past several years. Expect a genuine mix of Rane songs, classic covers and selected material from other CT local songwriters. The performances will happen every Friday in November, from 6 to 8pm at the Main Pub in Manchester, CT, culminating in Rane's first full band gig in over 6 months on Friday, November 28th. Special guest are expected each week. For more details on Alan's past recording project, visit the Tides Recording website: http://tidesrecords.com/recording/.

The Suji Faithful III: Triptophan Cartell
Alan has assembled another exciting line up of the Suji Faithful in celebration of the holiday season and the band promises to bring the funky heat, playing an eclectic mix of Rane and Mike Bradley originals as well as covers from your favorite bands. Suji Faithful III features drummer Travis LaMothe, bassist Dan Prindle, keyboardist Tony Parlapiano, and guitarists Mike Bradley and Alan Veniscofsky. The band will also be joined by Columbia Fields and solo artist Kevin Howard for a holiday spectacular! It all happens, Friday, December 19th at the Main Pub in Manchester, CT. Ticket price is $5 including one canned good or toy donation for the Suji Holiday Food and Toy drive.

In the Studio: the new album
In their time off, the band has begun pre-production on a still untitled new album. Songs expected to be recorded include: In The Bending Light, Sedona, (Aint nothing more lonely than), Drinking on a Train, In The Driving Rain, Make It Happen, and Side B as well as an unfinished original titled John Brown's Body that was the last piece of music from the Bruce era written around the same time as Bend. A number of new pieces have been brought to the writing sessions including several songs from Bowman and Dan, one temporarily titled Greener and another called Death Cab for Bowman. This will also be drummer Bryan Kelly's first full album recording with Rane. Alan will be manning the reigns regarding recording and tracking the new project and the band has not ruled out include outside guest musicians, engineers, producers and mix engineers. Alan will post updates (blog) on the sessions regularly on the Tides Records studio page and the band hopes to post some acoustic demos on their Myspace page (if that place is still cool) later this fall.

DAN PRINDLE :: Plays with Bill Carleton, Brian Jarvis and others. Visit danprindle.com for info.

BRYAN KELLY :: Plays with Brian Jarvis, Bill Carleton, Moller and others. Visit BK on MySpace for info.

In the spirit of the holiday season, RANE is offering up new music and some unreleased older recordings here on their MySpace page.

"In the Bending Light" is the first studio recording to feature new drummer Bryan Kelly. The song is a collaborative effort between all five members, based off of Bowman's verse riff, Alan's bridge and Dan's chorus. The lyrics are also a collective effort, with contributions from Alan, long time lyricists Dave Griffin and Wade Wilby, and it was inspired by the rarely seen northern lights. This particular mix is a demo cut from a studio session this past fall.

"Make It Happen" is the first Veniscofsky / Wilby collaboration in several years. This demo recording features Alan on guitars, bass, synth and vocals, with Bryan Kelly laying down the drum groove and percussionist Kurt Rinaldi on triangle, shakers and glockenspiel.

"Kyte" is taken from the original CAMELOPARDALIS recording sessions from the spring of 2000. Tracked live at Sound Station Seven in Providence, RI and produced by ZOUX. This tune was originally recorded for release on CAMELOPARDALIS, but was later dropped due to length restraints.

"Helium" was the open track featured on AT WAR WITH THE MOON. This particular mix is the instrumental version, without the spoken word by Jeremy Coster. It was obvious at the time of this recording how influenced the band the sonic soundscapes associated with producers and bands like Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, and U2.

Enjoy. Have a great holiday. We'll see you next year!

Current mood:  relaxed
That's right.  The children on the show The War At Home, Hillary, Larry, and Mike, are apparently big fans of our band.  I got a message from road manager Dave Griffin about some of our promo stuff being spotted on the show's commercial and told me to watch it if I had a chance on Sunday night at 9:30pm.   Within five minutes of turning the tv on six of our posters were spotted in both the boys' room and the girl's room...in all, three blue Magnetic North posters and the 8"x11" cover shots of The Hope Seed and From the Vines I and II, respectively.  Pretty intense. And on top of it all, next to the daughter's stereo was a copy of Magnetic North.  TiVo or tape the show on VHS every Sunday at 9:30pm to catch a glimpse of our shwag on national television.   Now we just have to try to get them to wear our shirts.

RANE has been awarded Best Groove Rock / Jam Band and Best Emo / Indie group in this year's Hartford Advocate Grand Band Slam readers' poll. This marks the 10th consecutive year RANE has taken home an award. Bassist Dan Prindle has also been selected as Hartfords Best Bass Player, while Kurt Rinaldi suffered a terrible and heartbreaking loss to the new reigning king of drums (in Hartford, people) to former Tides Records employee Travis LaMothe.

To celebrate the occasion, RANE will be performing on Thursday, August 3rd at the Pig's Eye Pub in Hartford as part of the annual Grand Band Slam festivities. RANE hits the stage at 11 pm sharp for a 45 minute set with guest bass player Eric Sack filling in for Dan Prindle while he is away in Europe. The show will also feature a guest appearance by Travis Lamothe on drum set and Bill Carleton on backing vocals.

A look ahead to Fall...
RANE plans on taking the rest of the month of August off from gigging while they put the finishing touches on some new material that will be road tested in the fall. The band plans on returning to their usual haunts starting in mid September with shows at Norwich University in Vermont on 9/13, The Main Pub in Manchester, CT on 9/15 and Penuche's Ale House in 9/16 and The Spot in Bethel, CT on 9/23. In October, the band returns to Up or On The Rocks in Hartford on 10/20.

Side projects and other news...
Shortly after the RANE set at the Grand Band Slam, Alan Veniscofsky will join the Bill Carleton Band on bass for its entire set, starting at midnight. Alan recently finished recording and producing Bill Carleton's new CD Diving Dreamers and the show at the Grand Band Slam will serve as a local CD release party for the project which, also featured RANE members Dan Prindle on bass, Bryan Kelly on 2nd drum set and Kurt Rinadli on percussion.

Drummer Bryan Kelly has also been very busy performing with various groups, including Moller, a indie pop trio from Massachusetts. Moller was recently nominated for Best New Band and Best Indie / Alternative Band in the Valley Advocate. You can show your support for Bryan Kelly and Moller by casting a vote at the Valley Advocate's Grand Band Slam site. Bryan Kelly and Alan Veniscofsky can also be found backing local singer songwriters David Cain and Brian Jarvis this August.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the 10 Year Anniversary Show in December! We had a total blast. It was great to see so many friendly faces from the past 10 years all hanging out together. We are very excited to take our first extended break from the road. Ever. Before we settle into complete winter hibernation, we will perform a pair of acoustic-based shows the weekend of January 20-21, 2006. After the acoustic performances, the band will be off the road again until the spring. Please continue to visit the website for details about the band's return to the road, and news about the release of three new live performances on Project Flood, including the 9/16/05 (Cheney Hall CD Release Party with Bruce Menard on drumkit), 12/2/05 (Penuche's Ales House) and 12/30/05 (the 10-Year Anniversary Show). Each of these shows was recorded on a multi-track digital audio work station and will be remixed and mastered for release later this winter. Details about band members' solo performances and details about the live releases can be found on the Tour Page and AV's Studio Journal, which Alan promises to update weekly. There are also plans for another Pictorial Year in review... What will happen behind the drumkit you may ask? Travis LaMothe will play one more gig with the band at a private show on January 19th before heading back into the great unknown, forging forward with his own musical projects. Future collaborations between Travis and the band are almost guaranteed. Rumor has it that area drummer extraordinaire Bryan Kelly will guest with the band for the acoustic shows in Bethel, CT and Gloversville, NY. The band would also like to thank Johnny Damon. Nuff Said.

As we approach the 10th anniversary of Rane's first rehearsal as a band, it would be fitting to announce the addition of original drummer and founding member Travis LaMothe back into the fold. For the month of December, the original Rane lineup will play 6 shows before embarking on their first-ever extended vacation from the road. The shows promise to be action packed, with musical highlights from earlier albums At War With The Moon and Camelopardalis, as well as new material from this year's Magnetic North and Telescope EP. Having recorded four full length albums and an EP since Travis departured in early 2003, recent drummer Bruce Menard was instrumental in the continuing success of Rane. Bruce has left the Rane camp for personal reasons, but both he and the band hope to cross paths and perform again in the future. Travis rejoins the group after almost a three year absence. He has been busy teaching drums and performing with several groups including Jet Black Jane, which will open the Dec 9th show at Up or On The Rocks in Hartford and the 10 year anniversary show on December 30th at the Main Pub. Everyone in the Rane family and Tides Records wishes you the best during the Holiday Season and we hope to see you at the shows...
