into the Top 5 Chart of countries i've performed in. The Weather, Women
and Kangaroos were the Boost. Trust me. lol
As much as i was on a 40
degrees, After Party, Alcohol drinkin, Weed Smoking, Aussie Girls, No
Top, Gym Ting... i still managed to document the tour by taking alot of
pictures and recording bare videos. Ya get me !
This is my Australia 'Godfather Of Grime' Tour 2009 Blog

The
40 degree sun rays get you on a hype. Start making you think you can
play instruments and shit. We started a band called the 'The Red Backs'
out there, we tried to get a £50.000 Record Deal but the labels werent
feelings our Riffs. Hhaahahhaah
It's nufing though I get money... !

Photobucket

Now
'SHOW TIME'... Seeing as i was performing i didnt manage to get alot of
pictures of the shows. But i gotta say they were ALL Good, Welcoming
and Big crowds. We met a lot of good Rappers/Mcs out there aswell doing
their ting. Big up Murky Depths, Bentman n/h, Sipn, Scotty and Mr

jus casually chattin to a Girl in a club then all of a sudden JAV will
'PRETEND' he is comin over to give you a drink from the bar and fuckin
ROB you of the girl you were tryin to do your ting with. Watch out for
him if you're ever out in Perth Australia.. He normally stands by the
Ladies Toilets lookin for his victims. hhahahahha... nah im joking.
BIG SHOUT to JAV the CHAMPION. This guy NEVER let us have a single SHIT DAY OUT.
After our first show the first place the A.C.F took us to was RED SEA / GOLD CLUB
Here he is gettin up to his usual antics !

Then
Bless Beats kept tellin Jav and Sipn to take us to the Ghetto (like we

YOU CAN TAKE THE BOY OUT OF THE STREET, BUT YOU CANT TAKE THE STREET OUT OF THE BOY !
"MADNESS"

About To Blow: Bless Beats

When
word reached our ear of Bless Beats being involved with Sony Publishing
deals, that he has the likes of Lily Allen and Sam Sparro hollering for
tracks, as well as a passport that is accumulating enough stamps to
rival our very own beloved editor’s holiday booklet, we had to catch up
with the soon-to-be father of one to find out what fortune’s fame has
been ‘sweeping’ his way… Words by Rajveer Kathwadia Images by Carnegie
& Conway

“The first time I met Wiley he told me ‘I’m not
your career.’ So I had to just crack on and do my thing. Now I’m coming
into my own light,” this month’s About To Blow star declares about his
new-found fame. But we here at RWD towers are no strangers to Bless
Beat’s spotlight snatching. Having followed the Bow beat maker’s
progression through the scene from 16 Bar Rally to Hard Day’s Graft, all the way up to a certain timepiece-dedicated electro anthem, it’s fair to say we knew Bless was destined for big things.

But
it was still unexpected to be sat behind a piano in the studio of Chris
Baker, one half of chart toppers Mint Royale. Taking time out of
creating another Mint hit, Mr. Beats pauses songwriting to play me a
tune he’s concocted for a certain Sam Sparro. “I met him backstage at
his concert the other day, and we were discussing working together so
hopefully something will come of that,” he says of working with the
Black & Gold star.

Circumstances and clientele are
slightly different these days from when Bless, 21, last graced our
pages as a One To Watch over a year ago. His mixtape Hard Days Graft
which featured the likes of Jammer, Tinchy and Chipmunk was well
received and production requests came in thick and fast from the best
in the scene. But it was an out of the box synth symphony entitled Wearing My Rolex
that blew open the doors to the industry for BB. “I never knew the
potential that tune had,” Bless comments of the Wiley collaboration,
which was the most played track on Radio 1 for four weeks running. “Now
people all over the world know the tune. It’s gonna be released in
Europe and Asia and I had some geezer telling me that it’s getting
battered in Australia, so it hasn’t run it’s full cycle yet.”

But just like a Dyson washing machine, Beats has more than one cycle with the Rolex phenomenon continuing with Skepta’s Rolex Sweep.
With plays from Jo Whiley and the likes of Chris Martin doing the
dance, it looks set to emulate its prequel’s success. “It’s time for
everyone to just let their hair down and enjoy themselves,” Bless
confidently states.

As well as entertaining revellers all over
England, Bless has taken things further a field by linking up with
multi-platinum French producer Bustafunk, as well as song-writing
sessions with Paul Tucker from the Lighthouse Family in Ibiza where
Bless hung out with new DJ pals Pete Tong and Zane Lowe. Now sporting a
publishing deal from Sony, others have come knocking for a bit of that
Rolex magic; Estelle and Public Enemy have put in remix requests, the
deceased Roy Orbison has been in touch from beyond the grave and
despite Bless’ reluctance to address it, rumour has reached us of Lily
Allen hoping to be blessed with beats.

But don’t think that Bless has left behind the scene that grew him; the second installment of the Hard Days Graft trilogy, Another Hard Days Graft
is on its way, followed by an instrumental release Beat Fighter on his
new label Presidential Sounds, which he runs with Most Wanted. It’s
fair to say grafting is not something the young musician is afraid of
doing. “Sometimes I don’t even have time for myself. I would have
clocked GTA4 in two days but due to the work it took me four weeks,” he
says with a laugh. “But the hard work is paying off for me now.”

......

“Usually
drink, usually dance, usually bubble!” boasts Wiley on the chorus of
“Wearing My Rolex”, leaving a lot of fans secretly a bit unsure about
what exactly it is to “bubble”, but adamant that they will do it anyway
the next time it comes on. After molten blog hype and loads of radio
play, the track’s finally now being released by Atlantic and promises
to be one of the biggest things ever to come out of the grime scene.
But although Wiley’s bars are great, it’s 21-year-old producer Bless
Beats who first launched “Wearing My Rolex’ into a unique orbit
somewhere between grime, house and electro.

Half-English
and half-Jamaican, Bless Beats started producing when he was fourteen,
and in 2006 he hooked up with Wiley. “We both live in Bow. You keep
doing music, you network, you can meet anyone you want.” He makes it
sound easy, but his ongoing mixtape series is called Hard Day’s Graft
for a reason. “I spend more hours in the studio than most people spend
at the office. Sometimes I’ll be there for a day or two at a time. I
only stop to brush my teeth. Plus, a lot of people don’t understand the
business side. You can’t just stick a song on your Myspace. You have to
market it.”

Except
that “Wearing My Rolex” is so good it hardly needs marketing. Bless
Beats puts a lot of its success down to the lyrics, where Wiley laments
his tendency to trust too much in pretty girls he barely knows. “People
can relate to what he’s saying. We’ve all been out raving, we’ve all
got stories to tell.” Has he got any stories to tell himself? “Have I
got stories? Well…” Bless Beats clams up. “I’ve got too many stories,
man. I’ll leave it at that!”

Bless Beats Speaks To RWD

We interrupt another Hard Day’s Graft to speak to the unsung hero behind the Rolex craze sweeping the nation… Words By Rajveer Kathwadia

“We
knew it would be big, but not this big!” states East London producer
Bless Beats in a greasy spoon café in the heart of Bow “I’ve just come
up with a new sound and people are liking it.” That’s a bit of an
understatement when you consider the ‘new sound’ in question is the
electro/grime/house hybrid that has spawned Wiley’s Wearing My Rolex which has been snapped up by Atlantic Records, and Skepta’s Rolex Sweep
and it’s corresponding dance which within one week of it’s unveiling at
1Xtra Live; already has a whole heap of fans posting their own
renditions of the ‘ghetto macarena’ on the internet.

“Bless has
found the formula,” Wiley reveals of the experimental music that has
taken BB and himself out of their grimy comfort sound. “You’ve gotta
venture out and experiment,” Bless adds, “There’s no rules to say you
can’t do whatever.” And in a scene which is quick to jump on an
artist’s back if they stray from the norm, the new tunes have
surprisingly been almost universally accepted. “A lot of people would
say that we’ve done this thing all the way over there, but not really
cos everyone in my hood would skank to it and even better is that
people in offices are skanking to it too!” But what about Bless, has he
been perfecting the countdown and circular motion yet? “Of course I
have!” he quickly responds. “But everyone’s doing it, so it must be a
good tune. It’s moving.”

As is Bless, who as well as linking
with Atlantic for the single, has also signed a publishing deal with
Sony, and also has a whole bag of high profile remixes in the pipeline.
Of course all of this has come off of the back of a phenomenal 2007
which not only saw Beats link up with Wiley, Roll Deep, Trim and
Chipmunk amongst others, but also the release of his acclaimed debut
mixtape Hard Day’s Graft which featured RWD favourites Lemon Ting andSpirit In The Beat, as well as the infamous 16 Bar Rally.
“If you haven’t heard it yet my mixtape is just a straight music CD. No
skits, no nonsense. Just put it in your car and from beginning to end
you can enjoy it. It’s an interpretation of what 2007 was for me,
music-wise and people I collaborated with.”

We’re taking a guess
that it wasn’t ACTUALLY made in a day? “Nah not in one day (laughs).
But music is grafting, mixtapes are not easy to put together, anyone
will tell you that, music in general is hard work.” And not one to rest
on his laurels, Bless is nearly ready to roll with the follow up Another Hard Day’s Graft.
(Duh!) Reluctant to reveal much about the next project outside of the
title track which is produced by Foot and features Bless spitting
alongside Wiley, Riko, Maverick, Jet Le and Foot himself, Beats lets us
know that there is also a video in the pipelines.

Something the
E3 resident is more willing to speak about is the mixtape he is
overseeing for up and coming spitter Axeman. “I understand what talent
is,” Bless confirms in a similar fashion to the faith Wiley showed when
reaching out to the likes of Bless and fellow music maestro Maniac.
“Axeman is 15 and that’s a lot. Out of all the kids that are out, he
stands out to me and that’s why I’m helping him.” And it’s a respect
level that goes both ways. “Before working with Bless I wasn’t really
doing anything.” Axe confesses. “Bless has helped me to get my work
rate up and do a lot of tunes and now the project is looking good. It’s
called Underage and it features Rude Kid, Maniac, Foot, Skeamz, Target, Danny Weed and the lead single Ain’t Ready with Wiley, and it should be out in May.”

“I
see the potential he has,” Bless continues, “And to see him reach that
is the best thing, cos that’s what gets me going in the morning; music.
Wiley installed that in me and I’m trying to do the same with Axe.
Obviously he’s in school, but during the holidays it’s on, keeping the
work rate up, writing bars, vocalling beats, cos if you slow down for
five minutes someone else will go past you.”

So who else has
Bless recently linked up with in the studio? “You know what? I work so
far in advance that I even forget what I’ve done. But you should be
able to hear my beats on Quincy’s You Don’t Know The Half Of It, Lauren Mason’s forthcoming Keepin It Blonde and of course Wiley’s Grime Wave. I’ve got about four or five beats on there.”

And
with the likes of Lethal B and Asher D also hollering for beats,
singles, mixtape and albums all on the way, 2008 looks like it will be
very Bless for Beats.
