....................

After an official statement released on Monday  from the concert promoter organizing the Legends of the 60s , ‘The Rifffs’ , ‘Tribali’ and Ali Campbell UB40 festival to be held at ‘ TA FRA BEN’ this coming week  “we would like to clarify a few points which should be made public“ said Howard Keith, Director of Jagged House.....

On a contract signed between concert organizer Manuel Portelli and Jagged House ( management of Tribali and The Rifffs) dated 10th of June 2009 , the organizer committed himself to a festival which was supposed to take place on the 15th August. This was also part of further concerts starting on Thursday which were branded as ‘The Legends of the 60s’ The type of performance was not a concert of Tribali or the Rifffs but a festival of Reggae, Ska and World music.....

Last Saturday 8th of August through other sources it came to Jagged House knowledge  that the promoter had no intention of bringing over Ali Campbell. The reasons are still unclear today but it was definitely not a case of the artist being sick or dead! We can only assume through our experience that the reasons could have included the use of UB40 alongside Ali Campbell and the contract rider not fully understood by the promoter of what all the conditions and requirements were, resulting in unforeseen last minute expenses.  After confirming this information with the promoter, Manuel Portelli also stated that he would have gone ahead with the festival without the headliner, using Tribali and The Rifffs solely for the event. This left us no option but to advise the promoter that this is what we consider cheating the people and was very unfair to the ones who purchased the tickets beforehand expecting to see the 3 acts. Not only did the promoter not inform us of his intention but the ’ type of performance‘ was no longer valid. Nonetheless we were expecting a definite reply by Monday which to our surprise Manuel Portelli further states that the 4 day festival event was to be postponed ( or cancelled ) only 4 days before . All this with the promoter not even informing us of what is happening.....

This is an outrageous call of unprofessionalism and as Jagged House we will now take this matter through our legal channels. This however is more than one incident where some promoters are not realising the damage this is doing to this fragile industry. Our roster of artists among whom are none other but Ira Losco , Tribali, The Rifffs, Airport Impressions and Red Electrick work very hard together our team to ensure a professional show. We ‘re also very lucky to mark our next event in Austria as the 100th concert we’ve been involved in abroad. This comes through a lot of hard work and the artists get to perform in high profile events which have an audience share ranging from 1,500 to 80,000 people resulting in a fair share of export .“ If cancelling an event with over 5 foreign acts, having people even come over to Malta comes across as a good advert to Malta , than branding has a new meaning in my book ”added Howard Keith.....

We’ve never had one problem with any foreign promoter and yet on this island it seems that anyone and everyone can be a promoter, organize a concert and hope for a quick buck at the artist’s expense and in most cases to the detriment of a paying audience. We’ve had cases in MALTA where artists were advertised and the artist never appeared, artists advertised weren’t even the real ones or tricked to believe that it was an act with a full line up , promoters who have used some of our artist’s names to promote an event and never ever informed us about it. Not to mention events with minimal security, gate entrance issues, illegal permits, no insurances and so forth which all seem to fit a lower priority list. In all of this it is the consumer who is getting a bad deal. In turn this reflects badly on our fragile industry. We’ve been doing this professionally for a number of years with lots of experience gained abroad and yet these incidents continue to surprise till today. ....

Ultimately we have very good relations with the professional promoters but a line has to be drawn as to who qualifies or not for this job. People change their schedules for an event, some fly over purposely , whilst others chose an event over another. This is the case with the artists engaged but most of all with the audience who unjustly are simply given a last minute refund at most. We hope that the people get their refund in this case and such promoters should not be allowed to operate again. ....

Rifffs (The) - Moonstomp

Date de publication : 23 mai 2009 par Vince
Contexte :
Contrairement à « Smoke On The Water ».

Current mood:  accomplished

Every band has a story to tell and legendary cult band ’The Rifffs ‘ are definitely a band worthy of that story.  From landing a record deal with Alternative music distributed by Pinnacle in the early 80s , to having their debut single ‘Dance Music for the 80s Depression’  played by the  world famous DJ  John Peel  which also hit high in the British Alternative charts , this band has more than a story to tell. But the greatest story of all is the fact that their first single stood the test of time and till today is considered a timeless classic in our shores still heard on our local  air waves .....

Now managed by Jagged House Management, 11 fantastic songs including the re- mastered ‘Dance Music for the 80s depression’ and a band more united then ever, the Rifffs are back with an album worth the wait.  The album entitled ‘Moonstomp’ , was produced by Howard Keith and will be available at all record shops on the 11th of  February.....

At a press conference held at the Theatre Wine Bar the band said “This is a very exciting time for us and making an album together was nothing but a dream come true. One thing that hasn’t changed about us is the fact that we’re not afraid to look and sound different a mist of what is normally heard on the  airwaves.” ....

Whilst Ska bands like ‘The Ordinary Boys’ topped the UK charts last year and legendary bands with the likes of ‘The Specials’ and ‘Madness’ have re- united , with  the world global economy  going through such a  recession , is this faith that the RIFFFS are back with their first album at a time where many economists have called  it the possible ‘08’ Depression? ....

“ The Rifffs are a very identified band and definitely a band to have in our roster . Although cult artists don’t normally benefit from the mainstream airwaves I’m confident that with a band who has literally started the live concert scene in Malta, local music has a lot to gain having the Rifffs back on the scene ” added Jagged House Management.....

The album will be launched to the public at TNT, Rabat on the 9th February ( eve of a public holiday ) where the band will performing their debut album alongside other hits in what promises to be a great night .This event is being promoted by Reflex Promotions. Doors open at 10:00pm and Tickets are 6 Euros. ....
