I went to see Juno last night with Helen. Very funny movie — we even laughed out loud quite a bit.

But especially at this part, which I paraphrase:

High school Girl is pregnant and looking through the pennysaver with her friend for adoptive parents for her baby. Friend reads one aloud that says "wholesome couple seeks ... blah blah blah," to which Girl responds, "I don't want some wholesome couple raising my baby. I want someone a little bit edgy." Friend says, "You want someone edgy? A heavy metal couple or something?" Girl replies, "No, but someone just a little bit edgy, like a mid-30s graphic designer with a cool Asian friend."

HA! Helen and I were seriously meant to see that movie together. We laughed for like 5 minutes, while they high schoolers behind us were probably rolling their eyes at our edgy selves.   :)

My cousin S.E. Venart (aka Sarah) just got her first major book of poetry published by a big publisher. She published a smaller book a few years back with a small publisher, but apparently this new book is published by the top publisher of poetry in Canada.

OK, puhlease. When have i ever said "holla!" Now, that's just silly.

But, regardless, DC photo people, DCist.com is having a pretty cool photography show that you should consider entering. It's at a really cool space --- the Civialian Art Projects. Last year's show was amaaaazing.... and this one should be even better.

So, after defending the Anacostia neighborhood for the past year, there is a report today that a 25 year old man was murdered on Saturday after a carjacking, and found near the Anacostia metro station at 9pm. (i.e. 5 blocks from my studio)

It's not only scary for me, as well as others who want to visit the gallery and studio openings, but very sad. The victim was Timothy Spicer, who was a cook at the famous Ben's Chili Bowl in my neighborhood. He was planning to attend Howard University, and was heading to a music studio over the weekend to record some original rap music. He was also a bit of a visual artist, designing tshirts and drawing in his spare time.

This news is very unfortunate, to say the least.
