Current mood: angry
I just saw a commercial for Miracle
Whip that really pissed me off. It was harping on the fact that it is
basically the “non conformist” topping in that it has it’s own distinct
flavor COMPLETELY different then mayonnaise. Using young, sexy, rock
star looking actors and semi current power chord backing tracks, they
try desperately to paint the picture that they are pushing the envelope
of the mayonnaise world. At the end of the commercial a very defiant
voice states their slogan…“we will not tone it down.” It’s like they
want us to believe that Miracle Whip is some sort of civil rights
movement or a revolution against a corrupt government or a long awaited
experimental and controversial concept record. IT’S A FREAKIN
CONDIMENT!!!!!!! It seems that a lot of commercials these days are
trying to market to young America by proving that their product is
counter cultural, or “Indie”, or rebellious. But how rebellious can
mayonnaise be? Really?!?! It’s as if Miracle Whip’s marketing team is
made up of begrudged and downtrodden middle schoolers trying to break
free from the grip of their parents oppressive rule. Maybe that’s where
they are cutting corners to stay afloat in this economy. Who knows.
Don’t even get me started on the “it was crazy and we were there”
Smirnoff Ice commercial. PLEASE go to this link if you haven’t seen it
so you can appreciate my complaining: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAcYrYg1KIs#watch-main-area
.Not only is that tag line sooooooooooo unjustifiably dramatic but the
theme of the whole commercial is so pathetic. Here are a group of
people in their late 20’s and early 30’s still getting high on the rush
of sneaking on to public property after hours, getting wasted, getting
naked, and then bragging to all their friends about it. What is
this…dazed and confused the college and early adult years? Come on
people. Sorry for the chip on my shoulder. This topic is definitely not
worth my anger. For some reason I have always had a short fuse when it
comes to drama. I would like to end with my own dramatic pitch
to our “life changing” condiment company…Not only is your product high
in saturated fat Miracle Whip…it is also high in BS. Sorry…I couldn’t help that last bit:) Anyway, that’s what I’m thinking about right now Sean

We will have some video up soon but check out the new “White Sox Game” folder of the Myspace pics to get a glimpse of how the day went. All the best! Sean http://www.myspace.com/seanmcconnell

Hey All,
I have been writing a lot of new songs lately and I wanted to share one of them with you. I don't know when the next record is going to be and I just need to put something out there. Here's a little peak into some of the new stuff. It's called "Do You Make It Rain?" and you can listen to it right now at http://www.myspace.com/seanmcconnell. You will have to excuse the recording...I just threw up a mic and played the song down to get the idea out of my head. You can get the picture though. I'm sure I will re-record this and make it sound all shiny and new but for now just consider it "edgy and raw." ha. Thanks for allowing me to live my dream.
Enjoy,
Sean

Well this is a new first for me. I officially have one of my lyrics secured for ever in someone's skin. Yes, this is a picture of the very first Sean McConnell lyrics Tattoo. Meet Brooks... Drummer for Wade Bowen and a good friend of mine. He has always said that "Saint's Heart Sinner's Skin" was his favorite song that I have written and now it kind of has to be. Ha. Thanks Brooks! I'm honored. it looks great man! Sean

It seems as time goes by I am playing more and more full band shows. I know some of you have been wondering, “who are these cats?” Well wonder no further. I think it’s time I introduce THE BAND! In no particular order… “Tom Tom” Tommy keeps it funk fresh on the skins. Originally from Michigan, Tommy Gravelle is a solid as a rock drum god who currently resides in land of rhythm and funk (actually…Nashville). Besides being amazing at the drums, Tommy also can pull from a library of 20 crazy voices that he will perform for you on command (including a perfect “baby Animal” from the Muppet Babies.) “Long Leg” Craig fills out the bottom end with his BBBBBB bass skills. Originally from New York, Craig Landschoot now lives in Thumpville, USA (actually…Nashville). Craig is also a super hero volunteer EMT as well as an expert mechanic, repelller, computer tech, and chef. He is the quintessential “jack of all trades.” “Cowboy” Matty Matterson plays the merch tables and baby-sits us on the road. Originally from Brady Texas, Matt now lives in the land of …Nashville (I ran out of ideas). Matt Price is also a songwriter, Handy Man, Red Sox fan, and the oldest in a pack of 9 kids (God bless you Mrs. Price). So there it is. Feel free to respond to this blog and say hey to the boys. I’m sure they would love to meet you. Sean

Hey All!
I swore I wouldn't dance the "Twitter bug" but I gave in. I am now on twitter so tune in for my deepest darkest secrets and my golden nuggets of wisdom!
http://twitter.com/sean_mcconnell
Until our next "tweet"
Sean
p.s I would like to coin a phrase that I have created spicifically for the Twitter world. When you are filling someone in on another persons "tweet" you should use the phrase "word on the tweet is" and then tell them the tweet. For example: "word on the tweet is Joe is eating a meatball sandwich."
