Current mood:  accomplished
Hey friends!

Just letting you know, we'll be broadcasting live from the jam studio all day long on the 5th and 12th on our stickam account.  We tried this out last weekend and it seemed pretty cool.  We'll be rehearsing live but the sound wont be good.

So log on and chat it up with the whole band to talk shit or ask all the questions you want before we head into the studio to record two brand spankin new songs.

And speakin of brand new music, we'll be posting something new to listen to (finally!!) on DECEMBER 15TH!  Along with a whole new layout.

Current mood:  anxious
I know that we just posted a video saying we have a bassist, but things change... and fast.  We've had a couple fill-ins in the past two months of writing but none of them seem to be sticking.  We'll continue to write and we still plan on recording asap whether we have a bassist or not.  The three of us have always been the writers of Katsumoto so expect nothing less than what we've delivered on Cadence (but faster and heavier).

So if you or someone you know might be interested, hit us up!  We'll post a few requirements on here and we'll explain the rest after a jam session.

- MUST have a source of income
- Have reliable transportation
- Have a super flexible schedule (for touring/late night rehearsal)
- and of course having legit equipment for shows is priority.

WE ARE A TOURING BAND.  Please, no high school kids or doodes from out of state.  We look foward to hearing from anyone else that is interested.  Message us here on myspace titled BASSIST if you wanna fill these shoes!!

We have two new members to introduce to everybody and we are rehearsing a new set for you guys with some new material too!
We plan to start playing shows in early December so be sure to check up on us for all the future updates!

Safari Sam's and Pogo Concerts' Tuesday lineup packed more punch than most clubs heavily promoted weekend concerts.  With a strong lineup that included Katsumoto, Kill The Mockingbird, Planes Crash, Fall Before The Juggernaut, Put Up Your Dukes, and Disfigure the Archetype one is left to wonder 'what do they have in store for us this weekend'?  This show kicked some serious ass.  This was a "call into work late Wednesday morning because it was a lineup that couldn't be missed" type of show.  Put Up Your Dukes started the show, from I hear they are a great band.  I will have to check them out at a later date.  Fall Before the Juggernaut, the second band to open, came on strong.  The Drummer, Alan, is years ahead of his time, incredibly talented.  The band not only kicks ass but still has the potential to do so much more damage musically.  I can't wait to see what they have to offer in the coming years.  Disfigure the Archetype went .. Fall.  I was impressed by their older material (actually I loved their old stuff), however I found their sound to be a little generic.  The singer David had great vocal range but you couldn't make out anything he said.  I am curious to see some of the song lyrics or to get my hands on their "really old stuff".  Riverside based Planes Crash played a really short but sweet set.  They are a well polished and incredibly marketable band.  I am really surprised that they are not signed.  My only complaint was that the set was way too short.  Kill the Mockingbird came on next and the only thing I can say is wow.  These five unassuming guys (they looked like they manage offices and are accountants in their day job) were louder and harder than anything I could have ever imagined.  Songs like "Self Destruct" and "Pandora" were amazing.  This band of very strong and credible musicians all bring a different element to the group that makes their sound so solid and distinct you have to pay attention when they come on stage.  They are a great live band and you can tell they enjoy performing together.   Just when I thought the night couldn't get any better (Kill the Mockingbird is a hell of an act to follow) Katsumoto took the stage.  This band is fun, fast, and loud.  They make the kind of music that makes you want to get up and dance.  Songs like "Write Before My Eyes" explains their loyal fan base.  The thing that stood out the most (aside from the music) was the fact that the band played requests from their fans.  Who does that?!?   All in all it was a great evening of music with some fantastic bands.  If you get a chance you have to check out Fall Before the Juggernaut, Katsumoto, Planes Crash and Kill the Mockingbird.

Naming your band after a samurai warrior is a pretty good choice, especially when someone who is reviewing your new CD has been playing a little too much Ninja Gaiden 2 for his own good. Samurais and ninjas are basically the same thing, right? Either way, both ninjas and samurais kill shit with swords, and that makes them equally bad ass. So, upon finding out Katsumoto are named after a samurai, the thought of what this could mean musically created somewhat of a bias going in. This bias was of course "this is going to kick major ass." Those upfront expectations are met, at least somewhat. If you're curious about the samurai that the band is named after, go do some wikipedia-ing and educate yourself!

Katsumoto's full-length Burn Em' Down, Wipe Em' Out doesn't exactly attack with the precision that a samurai warrior would need, but it gets the job done. Sound-wise, think of Darkest Hour having a baby with Killswitch Engage, but they go on Jerry Springer and find out Saosin somehow got involved. Essentially, it's heavy and melodic – usually a winning combination. So, back to those expectations…

Admittedly, when track number two, "Oh So California", started off with a scream and the word "motherfucker," expectations started to lower. Luckily, the rest of the song made up for it, as it is one of the strongest on the album. Other notable songs include "Slaughterhouse Love Song" and "When Arms Form Wings." Altogether however, the first half of the album is stronger than the latter, and if the band could have maintained the level they had in the first half, the disc would get a 4/5. The second half lacks something that the first half has, but it is hard to put a finger on it. Also contributing to the mediocrity are the more straightforward, generic metalcore passages that occur during the last six songs.

Although it's hard to criticize Brandon Brown for being the drummer and the clean singer for Katsumoto, there are some parts where his voice can get annoying. Sometimes he adopts a whiny, almost 'emo' (for lack of a better word) quality to his voice, but this is one of the few downfalls of the band. Screamer Brian Yoo picks up the slack as he is one of the most impressive members of the band. Guitarist Johnny Hirth is impressive as the only guitarist in the band, and bassist Matt Simmerman is no slouch either. It will be interesting to see the string section pull off some of the layered parts from the record in a live environment. Technically speaking, Katsumoto are better than a lot of other young bands in the metalcore scene today.

While the samurai reference may be a bit too bad ass for Katsumoto, it's not that far of a stretch. They are able to create an album that may lack in some spots, but for the most part is memorable. It would be no surprise to see Katsumoto become one of the more popular bands in the metalcore scene in the near future. The best part about Burn Em' Down, Wipe Em' Out? It may just be the perfect soundtrack to playing Ninja Gaiden.

OH SO CALIFORNIA -

MOTHERFUCKER!

popping pills, paying bills, the rapists get rich and the addicts get chills
los angeles hurts, hollywood kills, we'll take all your money and cheapen your thrills

we're gonna eat you alive, over and over again, you better watch where you stumble, cause we've been waiting and waiting

to change your body, to wear your skin, to rob you blind, to suck you in

so when they fuck you and cut out your tongue, dont be surprised
you know its what you want, you know its what you like

crashing cars, hopping bars, the daytime is useless the nighttime is ours
smoke in our lungs, death in our hearts, we are your favorite hollywood stars

we're gonna eat you alive, over and over again, you better watch where you stumble, cause we've been waiting and waiting

to change your body, to wear your skin, to rob you blind, to suck you in

so when they fuck you and cut out your tongue, dont be surprised
you know its what you want, you know its what you like

HEAVENS DEVILS

fuck yea!

i am so spoiled rotten, so close to throwing away, but for some odd reason you keep me by your side anyways. cause ive got a new beat and its something you might need, youve got a hunger deep inside you know ill feed.

i am a heavens devil watch just what you say, i can be your best friend of your worst enemy, i am a heavens devil watch just where you go ill teach you things that you never outta know

well say goodnight and dont cry, cause im not worth your time, well say goodbye i wont lie cause im not worth the time

fuck you!

you are so nothing special but you take my breath away, this just might hurt me but ill do it anyway. cause ive got a new plate and its something you might hate the hungers gone and i can finally escape

i shot the sheriff in the entrance to my room, he smelled of whiskey and his lonely wifes perfume, i shot the deputy he came to my home, he reeked of fear and his dead fathers cologne.

well say goodnight and dont cry, cause im not worth your time, well say goodbye i wont lie cause im not worth the time

you, me, everything around us will never change

well say goodnight and dont cry, cause im not worth your time, well say goodbye i wont lie cause im not worth the time x2

i am a heavens devil watch just what you say, i can be your best friend of your worst enemy, i am a heavens devil watch just where you go ill teach you things that you never outta know

I REAP YOU SOW

You've opened your mouth so wide for the last time,
Im tired of your accusations. keep to yourself
Dont drag me in, into this mess, my lonely mess.

i can smell the fire
i will follow the footsteps

Sleep as you wish my love, cas i wont stop running, no ill never give up and i want to see you crawl(back to me)

you think youve seen the last of me,
ill haunt you till you're six feet under
ill scratch you with the claws that God has given me

(can you smell the fire?
can you see the footsteps?
can you hear the choir?)

a desire to run, run as far i can
leaving all that meant everything to me

Sleep as you wish my love, cas i wont stop running no ill never give up. and i want to see you crawl (back to me)

ALONE TOGETHER

in this haze we can, only see our hands
the only way around is to feel

my heart wont stop beating
my face is numb

being able to finally see
being able to finally breathe

i cant see the way
i dont feel the same

my heart wont stop beating
my face is numb

being able to finally see
being able to finally breathe

WHEN ARMS FORM WINGS

you know im right inside you, forgiving everytime that you, do what you want to do. you know it might come to, a time when you might have ot choose, which ways the right way for you

someday when these two arms for wings
to take us all away, ill take us all away
someday when this road clears ill drive
to take us all away, ill take us all away

alone i will take carry us all to the sun
and we're never looking back
alone i will save us all from the flood
and we're never coming back

you know im right inside you, forgiving everytime that you, do what you want

one day ill know which way to go
to take us all away, ill take us all away
i will return with these two sings
to take us all away, ill take us all away

alone i will take carry us all to the sun
and we're never looking back
alone i will save us all from the flood
and we're never coming back

we're never coming back....

and we're never looking back
and we're never coming back

alone i will take carry us all to the sun
and we're never looking back
alone i will save us all from the flood
and we're never coming back

OFF THE ROCKING HORSE

when you breathe in the air you can feel it, when you burn all the candles you can see it

when you tell me your secrets, will you mean it? (cut your noose) when you give up your heart can i steal it? (tell the truth)

when you breathe in the air you can feel it, when you burn all the candles you can see it

can you tell me your secrets, will you mean it? (cut your noose) when you give up your heart can i steal it? (tell the truth)

SOMETHING ONCE BEAUTIFUL

I've suffered enough to know, that this might be the end.
Of something that was, once beautiful to me.
My hate for you has slightly gained a pace,
A perfect devils advocate.

Your words have no meaning
Your emotions are tasteless
Your eyes quite deceiving
and yet you take a breath of confidence

While stripping the will of others, you have made your mark
Stabbing the back of friends, have you no remorse?
You'll soon realize that everyone will leave,
your bitter presence for good.

Ill never let you know, the reasons that ive chose,
and ill never let it go for your owns sake.

you have destroyed this beautiful moment
how inconvenient of you

SLAUGHTERHOUSE LOVE SONG

quiet, sweetness, take my dead hand straight to the grave

why dont we dance, dance like long dead lovers
kiss me, claw me, fuck me, pull me under OH! x2

you know we like it rough, and real real bad

we crash parties like fathers cars, we bear the teenage scars

call us crazy we just wanna rest in peace

why dont we dance, dance like long dead lovers
kiss me, claw me, fuck me, pull me under OH! x2

you know we like it rough, and real real bad

we crash parties like fathers cars, we bear the teenage scars

ive been this way for so long, it feels like dying. ive been around for so long, yea ive been trying

you know we like it rough, and real real bad
you know we like it rough, and real real bad

we crash parties like fathers cars, we bear the teenage scars

ive been this way for so long, it feels like dying. ive been around for so long, yea ive been trying

WRITE BEFORE MY EYES

The lights turn from green to red,
I saw it write before my eyes,
We're gonna make it baby
Just keep on moving keep on moving

Ive never felt so alive and well,
This has to be a dream of some sort,
Lights flashing, buildings burning.
Its time for a new beginning

Can you feel me now?
Can you feel me now?
Can you feel me now?

Dont close your eyes we're almost there,
Just shake the worries from your hair.
The lights turn from green to red,
I saw it write before my eyes,
We're gonna make it baby
Just keep on moving keep on moving

Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?

Ive seen a Gat damn thing or two in my days,
Ive picked up an addiction in every place.
Ive brought it home baby,
Can you bring it home baby?

TRIP ON

Dont close your eyes we're almost there,
Just shake the worries from your hair.
The lights turn from green to red,
I saw it write before my eyes,
We're gonna make it baby
Just keep on moving keep on moving x2

Can you feel me now?
TRIP ON
Can you hear me now?
TRIP ON

A DYING DREAM

hey! baby! watch your fingers! we just might bite

we've come to unlock the door im everything youve been waiting for
with a terrible appetite to go alone, we've come this far and noones going home

somethings you cant deny
when you heart sings its screaming
some dreams will never die
we'll make it out alive

just the thought of you makes my mouth dry, it makes me form a fist
you've kept me on a leash for way too long, this is what i was made for

somethings you cant deny
when you heart sings its screaming
some dreams will never die

i wonder sometimes how different life would be if i didnt come across your path, your face always comes back into my mind, why cant you be erased?

somethings you cant deny
when you heart sings its screaming
some dreams will never die
we'll make it out alive

somethings you cant deny
some dreams will never die
