At the onset of recording a new CD, I record demo versions of songs, at home, playing all of the instruments, singing all the parts, until I get a clear picture of where I want to go. Sometimes these capture a special something, difficult to reproduce in full studio settings.
I've uploaded some of these to this page.
I think it's as interesting to share the journey as it is to share the music itself.
All of these were written & recorded at home, in the Skull Club, some while sitting in bed surrounded by wires & guitars (Harvest Me), singing into a microphone hung from the ceiling while standing on the bed.
Others (Woman of the Vieux Carre') were recorded in the bathroom, with a single mic hung in the shower enclosure for 'reverb'. The first take nailed it, thank god.
While re-recording these in the digital studio setting and ProTools environment of the Rookery is exciting, the sheer madness of capturing sounds & ideas this way at 4am (so they would let me sleep) is a dear friend to my heart & soul. I hope you find some enjoyment there, and stick around for the finished product.
I'll be rotating these in & out as work on this new CD continues. Keep your ears open...
