This past Saturday, rock trio THE DROPA STONE performed and headlined a 4th of July Festival in Orlando, Florida. Sponsored by Budweiser, TGI Fridays and Make a Wish Foundation, the day was filled with live music, spinning DJ’s, prize raffles and all sorts of surprises. Large crowds, vendors and staff were treated to an inspired hour ½ set by the trio, who showcased their virtoustic chops, high energy performance and improvised jams throughout the evening.

The Dropa Stone relied on front man Jon Meyers’ signature, unique vocals and psychedelic guitar work. Drummer Joe Lederman’s precise fills and multi-faceted grooves, combined with bassist Tony Barbieri’s sweet, savvy and melodic bass licks, allowed the band to display a keen sense of musical intellect, going from heavy rock, to blues, to jazz, to reggae and even performing a snippet of a classic Led Zeppelin tune, “How Many More Times.” This medium of dynamics and musical diversity is greatly missed in the modern rock scene. If one would have closed their eyes, you would not believe you were listening to a three piece band.

After speaking to the band backstage, it was evident that the trio’s chemistry isn’t limited to their live performance. “Playing outdoors is always fun, especially when you get to watch the sun set as you play,” said singer/guitarist Jon Meyers. Drummer Joe Lederman echoed those sentiments; “It definitely enables you to enter a state of musical harmony and create that 4th element onstage, said Lederman.

During the final song, a piece titled “Vectors,” the band went into a ferocious other worldly conclusion which took everyone by surprise. Utilizing avant-garde techniques with percussion and effects pedals, they mimicked sounds one would hear during an intense fireworks display.

It was most definitely a July 4th to remember!

Steve Gang- backstageblog.net- This post is a dedication to music's sweaty past and a tribute to its bold future. Music... The holy grail, the last leap from the ledge, the beating heart of the collective consciousness, a call to arms-a call to ears-music lovers of the world unite. Break the chains of wax in your blocked canals and let your heart rediscover the tribal bliss that is part of your human heritage - the kind of bliss achieved by rhythm, vibrations and beats...

After being hard at work for months, we are happy to report our debut record is completed! It has been an enlightening experience, both sonically and philosophically. To begin with, we have posted three new tracks from what is a 7 track E.P. Do take a listen and please let us know what ya think! There will be tons of updates to come, including album artwork, CD Release show announcement, merch + New shows for 08'!

We would like to thank "JT" Justin Thomas (Producer) for all of his hard work and efforts in making the record be as "dope" as can be. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey thus far, including all of the bands we have had a pleasure of sharing the stage with. The comradery that the Orlando music scene displays is unparalleled. We hope to continue to maintain and make new relationships with everyone along the way.

Tell a friend! Spread the word! Together we can bring music back to being the force it should always be— one that displays integrity, honesty and unity!

We Notice.....

"The principal object of our directorate consists in this: to debilitate the public mind by criticism; to lead it away from serious reflections calculated to arouse resistance; to distract the forces of the mind towards a sham fight of empty eloquence."

It's that time again! The Dropa Stone has yet another new song for your mind boxes! It's called 'This Summer' and will be another track off our upcoming E.P. We also finally have an official website in the works @ www.thedropastone.com so add it your favorite places! In other news, there are some big Dropa Stone events coming up including show in front of the UCF student Union on Thursday March the 1st!

Lastly, we are holding the very first "Promota Stone" contest. The rules are easy. The more friends you send our way on MySpace the more points you get. The My Spacer with the most points gets a 25 dollar gift certificate to Best Buy! (Just make sure your friends send us a message letting us know you were in fact the one who referred them so you get the points!) If you don't have MySpace that's ok!  Just stay tuned for the next "Promota Stone" contest which will consist of soup, nakedness and free styling.…

Stay warm!
