Celebrate Halloween and Día de los Muertos at Café Coyote with historic traditions and a special menu from October 26th to November 2nd.

In Mexico, the Day of the Dead – Día de los Muertos in Spanish – is considered the most important holiday and is focused on the gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember relatives and friends who have died. The celebration occurs on the 1st and 2nd of November, in connection with the Catholic holy days of All Saints Day and All Souls Day which take place on those days. Traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts.  In the Mexican tradition, death is not morbid and the Día de los Muertos is a time to celebrate life, happiness, color, family, fun and food.

Some of the traditional dishes that will be featured for this special occasion include:

Blood Orange Margarita

Pureed Butternut Squash served with a touch of cream

Chicken Mole

Tequila Chocolate Mousse

Come in Today for Cafe Coyote's Puerto Nuevo Style Lobsters

Old Town's Landmark Mexican Restaurant Continues a Deep Fried Lobster Tradition

October Food Specials!

October marks the start of lobster season and Café Coyote Old Town, winner of the Gold Medallion Award for Best Mexican Dinner House in 2005, 2006 and 2008, has diners ready to line up to try the traditional Mexican preparation of Puerto Nuevo style lobsters.

"Puerto Nuevo is the self-described 'lobster capital of Baja,' but with the recent increase in crime in Baja, it's just not as safe or easy for San Diegans to go to for some traditional Mexican lobster," said Lehn Goetz, co-owner of Café Coyote Old Town. "Café Coyote has been serving Puerto Nuevo style lobster for 20 years and offering San Diegans the experience of Mexico without crossing the boarder."

Café Coyote's traditional Puerto Nuevo style lobsters are deep fried and seasoned with garlic, black pepper and salt.  Café Coyote patrons have the choice of a whole 1¼ pound lobster dinner or a combination dinner of a half lobster with tequila lime shrimp or carne asada. Every Thursday Café Coyote is offering the whole 1¼ pound lobster dinner at a special low price. Served with drawn butter, fresh salsa, Mexican style rice, refried beans, and Café Coyote's signature hot homemade flour tortillas, this annual dish is as close to Puerto Nuevo as San Diegans could ask for.
