Just wanted to let everyone know that our new EP, "Everest", will be available for download on 1/20/09. We hope you all enjoy it.

The first 100 Austinites to purchase the EP online will receive a limited edition fur-encased copy of the EP personally delivered to them by a bear-suited messenger (a Golden-Gram!). This will no doubt be a memorable thrill.

We hope you can make it out to our EP release show on 2/13 at Club DeVille. It should be lots of fun.

We also have begun tracking LP#3! This will hopefully be out by late 2009.

Hello my friends.

Look out for a documentary on PBS this coming year called "The Eyes of Me". It was made in Austin and will feature some music by Golden Bear.

After a year of sitting on some stupendous recorded material, we are finally on the verge of releasing it. The release will be a digital-only EP entitled "Everest" and will contain five numbers we hope you enjoy. This is a definite thing. Look for it early spring '09. Currently finishing up some mixing tweaks with our buddy Erik and finalizing artwork.

We will begin recording our third full-length album in early January. Hoping for a release by the end of 2009.

Also, to all of our loyal Germans: The magazine "Visions" will be running a nice interview with us soon. Achtung, baby.

It has been a long time since the last update.

We have been learning new songs and preparing to record in our new cave. There have been some false starts over the past year, but I think the false starts are over. Got a neat Tascam Reel-to-Reel we are excited to use.

We have a new member: Austin Jenkins. He is a monstrous addition to GB and we are thrilled to have him.

That's about all I can say right now. Look out for the 11/20 show with our old pal Leatherbag and his crew. The goal is to play ALL new songs at this show, which should be interesting if we can actually make that happen. Also look out for free week during the new year. GB will be playing then as well . The newest piece in the arsenal of GB's musical weaponry will be debuted at these shows, which is reason enough to come.

Apologies for the slowness over the past few months, but I don't feel any hurry. The songs are brewing, getting better, and getting worked on. There is no rush. We are determined to make the next album a great one. Slow and steady.

Just a quick update. The "Everest" EP is all done. We just finished mixing the final song. The cover is being made right this very second by capable hands. The cover is also gonna be fresh. Just know that.

Here is a run-down:
1. "All the Stars" - Drums be bustin out from the startin line. Next thing you know you fighting to stay alive.
2. "NightLights" - Pure.
3. "Everest" - What can I say, dudes? Title track.
4. "Miracle Machine" - Song talks about an "electric soul". Song also talks about a "forgotten beast". Translation: Song is talkin about your life.
5. "Future Blues 2" - Roll down the windows and crank it.

Look for it early fall '08.

May I also say that the My Morning Jacket Show last night gave me one of the greatest feelings I’ve had in a while? It was pure and good and ungodly loud.

Thanks to all of our friends and fans who came out to support us this sxsw. It’s been great so far. One more on Saturday...

HOWEVER,

it has been destructive so far, too. As most of you know, it wouldn’t be a Golden Bear show without massive technical difficulties and the regular breaking of things.

Here is a run-down so far:
- Busted guitar amplifier during practice Monday (maybe Grizzle’s frustrated kicking at it worsened the situation?)
- Several broken strings on various guitars Tuesday night @ Beauty Bar show
- Disturbing Blues Driver pedal noises throughout the week (a sign of things to come?)
- Dropped tom after Beauty Bar show (good thing Ludwig made quality drums in the 70s)
- Horrifying, evil bass amplifier noises at Scoot show on Wednesday
- More broken strings at Scoot show
- Dismantling of strap during song at Scoot show
- Disconnecting of mic from cable at Scoot show stemming from Griz’s ill-conceived notion to be Freddie Mercury (sadly, this was not the first time)
- Destroyed guitar cable end during the guitar throwing/spinning portion of the grand finale at the Scoot show (cable "borrowed" from Griz’s brother)
