The 1st CAU Art and Music Showcase was a rousing success!!!

Oh what a night. Finally an intimate environment with the look and feel of a Concert. There are so many to thank. First thanks to Rob and Whitney the owners of the Viaduct and their incredibly hard working staff for helping make it a memorable night Art, Magic, comedy, and incredible music.

Emmy Star Brown and her art were beautiful and the piece I purchased is on the wall front and center in the studio.  The performers were absolutely brilliant!!! Many thanks to J & L Catering for the oh so tasty hor' dourves and Leigh Evin McCullough for helping CAU get the word out and taking care of the hor' dourves while I was running around like a madman, albeit a very happy madman.

Most of all, I wish to thank you the audience for coming out. Without you, well, it wouldn't have been the success it was. All the performers commented on what a joy it was to have such an attentive audience.

All in all it was a magical night and there are many more to come Look for us in the beginning of 2010 back at the Viaduct Theater with a brand new show.

I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a joyous holiday of your choice in December. I feel that 2010 is going to be a new and exciting year for us all...

Peace,

Last Thursday night, largely through the efforts of Ashley Wolf, CAU recorded a live Podcast show at Goose Island Brewery in Lincoln Park followed by an Open-Mic and it turned into a very magical night!

The Podcast began with Mike, Morgan, and Jake from the band Common Shiner who kicked ass and took no prisoners, followed by Jeff Brown of Goodbyehome and then Patrick Gemkow of Daysleeper. Both these guys are among the best singer/songwriters performing in Chicago, and in fact performing with their bands on my next big show The CAU Art and Music Showcase at The Viaduct Theater on November 21, 2009.

Then came the Open-Mic portion of the show that featured a wealth of talent starting with Madison Wisconsin based bascom hill who were wonderful. Then we were graced with the beautiful voice of Jane Thatcher. Then came "Grey", that's right just Grey and he was excellent. Ari Levi played his butt off! Then came a dear friend and CAU alumni Jeff Churchwell and Sarah Scanlon from Jeff's band Left Turn @ Albuquerque needless to say their songs were amazing. Next came a new to Chicago singer/songwriter Adam Percy. He was excellent and will be recorded at the CAU studio in about a week. Yes, I really liked him. The evening wraped up with Joe Armani who was yet another example of the strong singer/songwriter community here in Chicago.

But, with out a doubt, the best part of the evening was the strong attendance by an audience that was attentative and supportive of these performers. This show will never be about competition and will always live up to the mission of CAU to support Chicago's Original Music scene.

It was a brilliant night of great music. My sincere thanks to all involved including the staff of Goose Island and most importantly to the great audience, for without you it wouldn't be very much fun.

We're going to take a break in December for the holidays, but we'll be back with a vengence in January at Goose Island Brewery off Clybourn at Sheffield.

Many Thanks,

Michael Teach, Host

This upcoming Wednesday, CAU will host another showcase at Underground Lounge to feature  The Grass Gypsys and Brian Walker.
The goal behind our event is to allow CAU alumni to be featured in a live setting where other musicians and fans alike can network and support the art community. We have found this to be extremely rewarding for everyone involved--and this week is no exception.

The Grass Gypsys are an independent, acoustic fusion band from Boston with a signature sound fouled by the power of two. Husband and wife musical duo, Justin and Colleen Kleya, blend styles from American Roots music. Rich and charismatic vocals with expressive, finger-style guitar playing create a sound that is fresh and entertaining for all ages.

Brian Walker  brings an incredibly attractive sentiment in his voice and persona. His lyrics convince you that you've either experienced it or long for it. Walker's honest tone sustains the earthy blues of musical history that speaks to any soul

Jammin’ for a Cure benefits early detection pancreatic cancer
research

Chicago IL- Chicago Acoustic Underground (CAU) and the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation team together to hold the second annual benefit concert, “Jammin’ for a Cure” on Sunday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Copernicus Center, 5612 W. Lawrence Ave. in Chicago.

A talented line-up of local musical artists who have appeared on the CAU Podcast will perform. Funds raised will support the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation’s mission to support early detection pancreatic cancer research.

Michael Teach, host of the CAU Podcast, lost his mother to pancreatic cancer and wanted to produce an event that both honors his mother and showcases local musical talent. “When my mom was diagnosed in the late stages of pancreatic cancer she was given three months but passed in a very painful way in one month. If there were a way to detect this disease in the early stages, the survival rate and quality of life would be so much greater.”

CAU was founded to nurture and support the Chicago singer/songwriter community through Podcast interviews/performances and live benefit concerts supporting Chicago based charities and foundations. CAU also educates the public and live venues on the
cultural importance of supporting original music in Chicago.

The Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, founded in 1999, serves as a catalyst for the early diagnosis and ultimate cure of pancreatic cancer by funding advanced medical research, public awareness initiatives, and educational programs. The Foundation also seeks to increase the quality and quantity of emotional and psychological support services for pancreatic cancer patients, and their families through partnerships and organizations that specialize in this type of care.

Opening the evening's Concert is The Bill Porter Orchestra (www.billporterorchestra.com) Leader Bill Porter, twelve year veteran of The Frank Sinatra Orchestra, has assembled a band that represents all that is great about Big Band Music.

Next comes one of Chicago's strongest 70s-80s bands “Heartsfield”that still performs 200-300 concerts a year brings what some have called the first "Americana" band" to the stage. Their trademark Harmonies will amaze you.

Third on the bill is "GOODBYEHOME" (www.goodbyehomemusic.com), One of the hotest
new Americana bands emerging on the Chicago scene. This musically strong group features three part harmonies wrapped around Guitars, Violin, Accordion, Harmonicas, bass, and drums. They will make you cry and cheer at the same time.

Up next is National touring Nashville's own Donna Frost with her full band supporting her latest CD release "Girls Like Us" Donna brings her Country background with her unique songwriting capabilities demonstrated by her wonderful story song about "I Saw Elvis in a Tollbooth on I-90" Special guest, the actual “Elvis” that she met that fateful night will be in attendance.

Finishing up this night of Chicago's Music is the powerhouse 9 piece band “The Right Now” (www.therightnow.com) fronted by the blazing vocals of Stephanie Berecz, an incredible horn section, super tight guitars, bass, drums and wonderful backup singers. I defy you to to stay seated and not dance!!!

OK, that's 5 great acts in 5 Hours for $20. and it goes to a great cause.

Good Morning All,

I want to thank Martyr's for providing their excellent venue, David Kav for his brilliant example of what a Chicago Singer/Songwriter is all about, Maximus Riske and his amazing band Root Cause, and the headliner Goodbyehome whom I am directly involved (how bout Christine's little black dress!).

Thanks to Kat Fitzgerald for joining David on percussion along with her excellent Photography (you can see 186 pics of the show on her website,
http://www.myspace.com/mysticimagesphotography.

I so wish I could have been there, but I was in spirit and thanks to all the bands for dedicating their performances to my Dad who was my inspiration.

Mostly I would like to give a virtual standing ovation to the great audience that attended this first of many CAU Showcases. I promise that I will be there for the next one.

Peace,

Current mood:  contemplative

Good Morning All,

Tonight CAU begins a series of live concerts showcasing the many amazing artists that have performed on our Podcasts. We are approaching 200 Podcasts in a little over 2 years and we are now going to produce "three act" live concerts at different venues in the Chicagoland area.

We are also going to take the showcase on the road regionally. Our first journey will take us to Nashville on March 21st and 22nd where we will join Donna Frost at Windows off Cumberland on the 21st and John Zambricki at The Basement on March 22nd. To all our Nashville friends, please join us  and check out Chicago's hot new band Goodbyehome.

Tonight's show is at Martyr's Chicago 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. and the ticket price is $7.00. The headliner is Goodbyehome, with Root Cause and opener David Kav with guest percussionist Kat Fitzgerald. These 3 acts will make for an amazing night of original music. Please come out and support these talented artists.

And now, on a somber note, I will not be in attendance tonight as my 91 year old Father passed away yesterday and I am dealing with all that entails. I wish that I could be there, but the sad loss of the man who inspired me throughout life to find something that which you love and give of yourself to support that endeavor, is now foremost in my mind.

When you are listening to the music tonight, please say thanks to my Father, Gordon L. Teach for he is the source of my passion to support original music in Chicago.

Peace,

To all my CAU friends and performers:

This Sunday's Benefit Concert for the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation is a very important event for all of us. First and foremost it will help to find an early detection test for this devestating disease, and secondly it will demonstrate the strengh of Chicago's original music community.

There is going to be lot's of media coverage for this event. Several radio and television stations as well as newspapers will be in attendance.

Please dig deep in your pockets and come support the Rolfe Foundation www.rolfefoundation.org and  what we all believe in, the cultural importance of Chicago's singer/songwriters and original bands.

I personally need your help to make this the first of a series of benefit concerts, all of which, will always feature the best of CAU's performers and always for the benefit of local based charities and foundations.

Please join me and the great performers on Sunday August 10, 2008 at Green Dolphin Street for a kick ass concert!
