Concept : ....

.. ..

Off all the Detroit artists who came to visit us on the Tomorrowland festival, Derrick May definitely stood out: the energy, the soul, the vibe, the music, …  He spoke to our bodies and minds and left a remarkable impression. So we decided to invite him again, this time to our home-base, the Vooruit venue in Ghent. ....

.. ..

More so because next to the emotionally unrestrained, sexy, electronic funk he puts in his dj-sets, he has also just re-launched his legendary Transmat label. The label carved out a new vein in dance music and synthesized the advances of the electro movement with the more challenging end of the house movement – a new form of music that defined "Techno". Early cuts such as “Nude Photo” (co-written with Thomas Barnett) and “The Dance”, both on Transmat, were inspirational to many. However, it was the release of “Strings Of Life” in 1987 (co-written with Michael James) with its wide appeal to the house music fans of the 80’s & 90’s, which simultaneously brought May his deserved acclaim and Detroit techno to European club-goers. ....

.. ..

And now, after many years of touring the world, meeting new people and talking to journalists, the hunger to bring new music to the world has become so strong that it could no longer be denied. So Derrick is bringing us once again: Transmat! A first release by Greg Gow : The Pilgrimage EP is now available and more will follow. Derrick and the original label manager from Transmat will be looking at the unsung heroes from Detroit and surroundings for their output and we can also expect new releases from Derrick himself. Well, they might not be new but they will be tracks we’ve never heard before. Derrick will start where he left off and await the reactions from the public to use those as an inspiration to take things further. So lots of exciting music is coming our way, come and check out a preview on Kozzmozz. ....

.. ..

Not many Dutch artists can count Jeff Mills and Dave Clarke amongst their greatest fans. Maybe it’s because even in techno’s darkest hour, Counterpart has stayed true to its original roots. In a time when most producers are swiftly moving to digital production, Jeroen Search and Dimi Angélis stuck to techno’s traditional machinery, creating music that has a certain timeless quality to it you don’t find around that much anymore. Counterpart is also one of the very few live-acts that still go through the hassle of bringing all their hardware on stage, making each and every performance into a and powerful and memorable experience.....

.. ..

Spacid, who we already know well from his great sets at Ultra and retro Acid, will make his debut in the main room of Kozzmozz. With 20 years of experience in electronic music, we can expect a deep techno set that will blow the roof off. ....

.. ..

Resident Kr!z is going stronger and stronger with his label Token Records. Kr!z has taken Token on the road with label nights in Shangai, London, Berlin, Rotterdam, … He has released 11 records in less then two years from artists such as Inigo Kennedy, Phase, Radial, Dimitri Andreas, Oscar Mulero and more. As usual he will close the night off with a bang! ....

.. ..

.. ..

The artists: ....

.. ..

Derrick May – 3h set - (Transmat / Hi Tek Soul, Detroit)....

.. ..

Detroit Techno landlord and head of the internationally respected Transmat Records, Derrick May continues to move dance-floors with his no-nonsense Techno grooves. One third of the Belleville Three, this electronic legend arranges classic Detroit tracks in a timeless fashion: frantically beat-heavy yet soulfully warm. Nervous beats and breaks pound away at curvy synths and digital melodies that stand in the background of these vibe-some grooves like an electric scalloped fence surrounding a celebrity's home. Confident rhythms charge at your chest through an invisible spider-web of string samples holding your consciousness captive on the dance-floor.

Derrick May is one of the founding fathers of Detroit techno, a precursor of its many variants and particularly of acid house. His aesthetic, skeletal, melancholy style gained him the nickname of "the Miles Davis of techno". He introduced both a psychological element and a futuristic vision in dance music. Along with his high school mates Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, May began early in life to explore electronic music. ....

In 1986 May set up his now legendary Transmat label, taking the name from the early Atkins track 'Time Space Transmat' on his Metroplex label. May developed his production craft from the guiding hand of Atkins, with the label's first release 'Let's Go'. His next release, under the guise of Rhytim is Rhythim entitled 'Nude Photo',  co-written by Thomas Barnett, in 1987 with it's bending synths, melodic staccato bass and deep bass drums would come to define the emerging techno sound. ....

.. ..

May then continued to develop his sound for Transmat. Utilising the familiar bass sounds with ever more complex beats, flange effects, twisting chords and deep strings, May produced a catalogue of music that pushed the boundaries of what could be accomplished with electronic sound ever further apart. To many, the techno of Detroit is very much ingrained within the character and history of the City itself. A City that was isolated from the rest of America, with a downtown area in financial and architectural ruin, a deteriating motor industry and the reputation of it being the 'murder capital' of America, Detroit, on the outset, seemed a desolate and empty place. In reality there was a spirit and soul there that lived on in the City's urban communities from its glory days and its great musical heritage. This mixture of coldness and warmth, desolation and soul, was perfectly represented by May's Techno experiments. The classic tracks that include 'Beyond the Dance', 'The Beginning', 'Icon' and his most famous release 'Strings of Life' all emphasise Techno's most crucial componant, that this is the music of machines, cold and soulless machines, but May injected and extracted so much hope, spirituality and soul from them that the result was truly inspirational.

As well as his original production work, May's 'Mayday' remix projects are also legendary. His re-workings turn average tracks into unique masterpieces, nowhere more evident than on his classic remix of pop band Dee-Lite's 'Wild Times'. This tune would also become a favourite of UK DJs at huge raves across the country, with its mixture of pounding hard bass-lines and tear rendering piano melodies, all combined with May's trademark intricate and effect laden techno beats. Another great remix was that of Sueno Latino’s “Sueno Latino”, described by Carl Craig as the finest re-mix ever. ....

.. ..

May went on to cut three tracks on System 7's debut album, before Network released Innovator: Soundtrack For the Tenth Planet in 1991, a six-track EP that comprised some of May's definitive moments to date. It was followed in 1992 by Relics, a double album of Transmat’s finest moments, heavily featuring Rhythim Is Rhythim.

Derrick continued to run Transmat label from Detroit, which gave a new lease of life with the introduction of many artists that have helped kick start Detroit's 'third wave' of dominance over techno. Artists like Aril Brikha, Microworld and Indio took the label in a new direction, maybe less raw and brutal as May's early work, but still full of the same emotionally unrestrained sexy electronic funk that Derrick May helped give birth to.....

.. ..

And then all went quiet around Transmat whilst Derrick was touring the world, talking to journalists and meeting people, but now the hunger is back.  Well, it actually never went away so he’s really happy to announce the re-launch of Transmat with a first release by Greg Gow: out now!  Toronto-based producer and DJ Greg Gow, has long been a crowd favourite in Canada & Detroit's electronic music scene. As the founder of Restructured, a highly respected international record label, and with frequent appearances the US and South America, his rhythmical sensibility and technical talent have led Greg to be at the forefront of first class Canadian techno artists. ....

.. ..

.. ..

Counterpart live (6277, Mission/Axis, Audiosculpture, Rotterdam)....

.. ..

Towards the end of 2003 Dimi Angélis joins a talented Dutch artist Jeroen Search, with whom he produces the Ion 01 and 02 EP’s, which appear on Steve Rachmad's new sub-label of Scorp, “Ion”.  These productions are to be described as deep, minimal, groovy techno, which are also the main attributes of the Counterpart Live set. ....

.. ..

In 2005, Dimi and Jeroen, released two EPs on the Dutch label Audio Sculpture: Oxygenating and Next Level. Crowning the success of their previous releases, they team up once again towards the end of 2005 to produce The Martian Mystique EP on Jeff Mills’ label Mission (6277/Axis) under the Counterpart alias. At the end off 2007 there was another release on Oscar Mulero’s Warm Up imprint called the Counterpart EP. ....

.. ..

Dimi Angélis & Jeroen Search put together a dynamic/energetic live act with a Roland 909 and plenty of hardware. They went on tour through out the world under the Counterpart alias with an he international kick-off at the Rex Club in Paris in Januari 2007, and their debut on Dutch soil at the world's leading techno event, Awakenings in the Westergasfabriek in Sept 2007.....

.. ..

Finally there was the release of the Apocalypse EP in March 2008 on Audiosculpture as well as an EP with the super bomb track "Project 2302" on Kombination Research, a collaboration between The Advent and Counterpart. ....

.. ..

.. ..

Kr!z (Token rec, Kozzmozz, BXL)....

.. ..

Kr!z's  story with electronic music started after walking the many genres of music. He didn’t need much time to feel the heat of the vibe as it was a mere comparison between his heartbeat and the one of energetic techno.

He earned spots on some main events in Belgium: he got invited by Kozzmozz (7th, 10th and 11th anniversary) & Fuse, where he still plays on regular basis. A demo of this solid pumping techno sound was picked up by the national radio show ‘Switch’ whom offered him a spot in the new talents room of I Love Techno. His dj-schedule gets him all around Belgium, with gigs across the borders of France and Netherlands and as far as Shangaï.
....

 ....

With his own label Token and a first release by Inigo Kennedy in March 2007, which received positive feedback from over the whole wide world, is strengthening his position in the techno scene even more. In May 2007 "Chain Reaction" by Sub Space (aka Julien & Gonzague) was released on Token. Tracks by Wax and Radial (Jeroen Liebregts and Laurens van der Starre from Holland) and Phase, Inigo Kennedy, Dimitri Andreas and Oscar Mulero.   ....

.. ..

These were followed by Tokenspec1x - Phase – Morodem remixes – includes Ben Sims remixes. The original Tokenspec1 was one of THE techno records last year and sold out in a week. As there still is a lot of demand for this timeless track, Token decided to release the original mix, which wasn't included on the red vinyl, together with 2 fresh remixes by Theory-boss and notorious 3 decks-wizard Ben Sims. All 3 goodies are pressed on a nice blue marbled vinyl. ....

.. ..

.. ..

Spacid (Retro Acid, Ultra, Ghent)....

.. ..

Together with some friends, Spacid organised his first party in 1992, which turned out to be a big success. After a few parties in the club Carioca, he was involved in setting up the club Cirao in Waregem Belgium. He was 17 then. The club was short-lived but is still remembered as one the legendary and trendsetting clubs in Belgium.....

.. ..

1994 saw the founding of Funky Green Aliens, a party organisation and booking agency concentrating on promoting groundbreaking music & arts and introducing international artists to the Belgian scene. These parties, mostly illegal, were very successful and still to this day represent the true roots of Spacid's dj career.....

.. ..

By 1997 he was propelled to slots at the biggest clubs and parties in Belgium and abroad, such as Dance Valley, Ten Days Off and Kozzmozz. His name started popping up in all major Belgian clubs and events and today he is resident at various important party concepts such as Body To Body at the famous Culture Club, Beats Of Love, Elektron, Retro Acid, Ultra ......

We know you like your music loud and so do we. But we don't want you to
become deaf because of it . 'Protect your ears and enjoy music for the rest
of your life' is our motto and we hope it will become yours too. That's why
you can now find dispensers in the Vooruit venue with high quality and
re-usable earplugs that are comfortable to wear and lower the volume with
about 22 decibels. On top of it, they only cost 2 Euro . well actually only
1 Euro because Vooruit found two partners in this quest to sensitize young
people and Bond Moyson Oost-Vlaanderen is paying half. Together with
Earproof from Holland, the other partner, they have also taught up a pretty
funny but very true ad campaign. Check it out @ the entrance Vooruit!

Another night of techno mayhem has passed ... Tomaz set the pace in the
main-room, followed by Redshape Live. He played several tracks of his new
album 'The Dance Paradox' mixed up with some of his older favorites.
Function took over and made us dance to old and new techno tracks, making
the circle round. Heiko Laux continued with his breed of Berlin influenced
techno sounds before Makaton drove up the tempo with his tougher Rodz-Kones
sound from London. And Kr!z finished the night with our typical Kozzmozz
beats, just the way you like them. In the meantime the more minimal
orientated party people roamed the Ultra room and got warmed up by Tecnum
and the heat ;) Luckily the bar and chill-out area brought some relief
because also Spacid made the temperatures rise with his special effects &
scratching. Man of the night was without a doubt Peter van Hoesen who
brought us the latest and newest tracks as did Tom Dazing, finishing the
night in style.

Concept :

Here we are … 14 years down the line and still going strong with a great brand that stands for qualitative and upfront techno music!

As it’s our B-day we are treating you to a great line-up with lots of different artists so there will be something for everybody’s taste.

Heiko Laux is no stranger to Kozzmozz, he was with us during the first years at Kuipke, revisited us a couple of years ago and now he’s back. And why wouldn’t he be … 5 great albums and a label that’s brought us almost 150 great releases by all the leading underground techno names. Kanzleramt remains at the forefront of the techno scene since 1994, just like us!

Another leading name since about 14 years is Dave Summer aka Function. He started producing for Damon Wild and Regis before launching his own label, Infrastructure. His moniker Richard Harvey also made 4 tracks for Richie Hawtins first Decks, XF & 909 compilation. After having been active as a serious party promoter in New York and Detroit, he now moved to Berlin where he’s one of the guys representing the famous Berghain techno sound.

Next to these dj-sets, you can also expect two great live-sets. The first coming from Redshape who will be releasing his new album ‘The Dance Paradox’ on Delsin Records around the time of this party. He has been hailed by all the big names in the scene since his first ‘Shapedworld EP’ in 2006. Since then his records can be found on Styrax, Music Man, R&S, … as well as his own label ‘Present Recordings’. He doesn’t like to repeat himself, so every live he does, is different. Second up is Makaton from London who has signed names as Regis and Inigo Kennedy on his Rodz-Konez label. He will bring us a hard and deep live set.

Our Belgian guest for the night is Tomaz, he’s been at the forefront of Belgian techno as a dj and radio show host for about 14 years also. They will all be joined by our resident Kr!z from Token Records.

In the Ultra room Peter van Hoesen is our main guest. His name has been popping up more and more as he’s making waves with his ‘Time to Express’ label as well as his many installations. Both have taken him to places as far as Japan and Montreal. Time for Belgium to get to know him a bit better also.

He gets the company of Tom Dazing and Tecnum. Both are becoming regulars at Ultra and that wouldn’t be the case if they weren’t really good! And off course, also Ultra resident Spacid will be present with his favourite minimal selection.

The artists:

Kozmozz main room

Redshape Live (Present, Delsin, Styrax, Berlin )

In early 2006 techno's own masked man Redshape appeared first time on infamous Dutch imprint Delsin records. This initial release "Shapedworld EP" kicked him into the international techno scene, getting support from all major DJ from day one. Redshape soon developed his own individual view on modern dance music and set to leave a mark in techno.

Since coming to prominence over the last few years, very few producers (with the exception of Carl Craig and a few others) have come close to matching his technofied mission, meaning each and every Redshape 12" is held in high regard by the more discerning techno heads. His music brought him into the yearly top-lists of Germany’s Groove & De-bug as well as a lot of other magazines.

Trying to describe his sound is kind of a hard task, sitting somewhere between everything in dance music and Redshapes own imagination you get a direct extract - not minimal, not maximal and always historical respecting the vibe of Detroit.

Resident Advisor's Pete Chambers once said: "The future of the past never sounded more contemporary”, which perfectly surrounds Redshapes musical vision.

Repeating is definitely a thing Redshape works hard to prevent, so his live shows, which brought him to nearly every known European club, morph and develop every time to never play the same show a second time.

As a DJ, Redshape is still very inspired by the good old school of mixing and trying to make tracks speak to tracks, making music out of music. Redshapes music and remixes have been released on labels like Styrax Leaves, Delsin, Music Man, R&S etc. not forgetting his own imprint "Present Recordings".

Working together with Delsin Records he will release his debut album "The Dance Paradox" in October 2009 setting things for a bright 2010 which will see a brand new Live (Tour) show as well as several releases scheduled for his label.

Heiko Laux (Kanzleramt, Rejected, Berlin)

At the end of the 80’s the young Laux was a frequent guest in the new club ‘Omen’ in Frankfurt. “Omen has been the most influential club for me and from 1989 onwards, I was there several times a month”. Meanwhile, 35 kilometers away in Bad Nauheim, the studio in his parents’ house was filling up with more and more machines and had become a central meeting place for like-minded musicians.

When his brother opened up a pub, Heiko seized the opportunity to move the studio. Although the space moved, the idea: ‘to find a new way and an own sound in this new musical movement’, remained. Anthony Rother, Johannes Heil, Patrick Lindsey – who became the first league of the Kanzleramt artists - were regular guests in what was soon to become the legendary pub ‘Kanzleramt’. While honing his DJ skills, Heiko discovered his love for the work of Jeff Mills and the idea to develop a label. In 1994 the label he founded was named Kanzleramt. Numerous publications followed and Heiko became known as ‘The Hessen Techno Tiger’. And, although other DJ’s seemed stuck in musical limbo, his notoriety was growing on the scene.

Soon, Sven Väth from Omen, the club that was so hot it had guttering mounted for the sweat, signed Laux. It was here that Heiko played his first live gig. In 1996, he released Morgenstern’s debut album on the Kanzleramt label. It was around this time when Heiko was offered the prime time slot as resident DJ at Omen. More personal success came in 1998, when he released his own debut album ‘Liquidism’ on Kanzleramt. At the end of 1999 Kanzleramt moved to Kreuzberg, in Germany’s Capital city of Berlin. Despite a long phase of becoming established, Heiko was able to replicate his previous success. New opportunities arose and other artists joined the now, internationally renowned, label. The so-called ‘Next Generation’ comprised: DJ Slip, Alexander Kowalski and Diego.

Almost simultaneously, alongside his move to Berlin, Heiko released his next album. ‘Sense Fiction’ was the lightest album he’s ever produced. It sounded easy, jazzy and funky at the same time. In the meantime Kanzleramt was busy. Slip and Diego both released debut albums, the ‘Sense Fiction Remix-Series’ was celebrated and Ricardo Villalobos’s mix charted No 1 in Groove Magazine’s Top 50.

After the Europe wide, 7-year anniversary ‘Fully Fledged’ tour, Heiko devoted his time to producing the album ‘Ornaments’ which became one of the most important milestones of his personal development. This album symbolizes the renaissance of the individual as a feeling being. The man who moved, from the countryside, to the big city had finally arrived.

By the beginning of 2003 Heiko was ready to explore a new musical openness. He had already demonstrated on earlier albums that he was able to move away from ‘4-on-the-floor’ rhythms, but the collaboration with his studio neighbour Teo Schulte, a Berlin-based Jazz musician and Producer, accelerated this development and the ‘Offshore Funk’ project, described as “Funky Flow with Club Entertainment”, was successfully released.

About 5 years ago Kozzmozz launched the Young Talent Corner. Main goal was
to give young dj's the opportunity to play on their events. Soon after, we
found a great partner in Poppunt who wanted to expand their support to pop
and rock musicians also to the electronic music scene. Poppunt now also
offers young dj's the change to play on lots of other events but obviously
Kozzmozz is still part of it. On the last edition Robert Kohlman was
selected as Young Talent and he opened up the Ultra room. You can follow his
adventure in the video:

Kozzmozz is very proud to announce that it will be part of Belgium's most
spectacular and magical outdoor dance-festival : Tomorrowland, for the fifth
time ! And this time, we truly present you a legendary line-up. It will be

can promise you. the Kozzmozz stage will be bouncing as usual! And there's
more good news, the Kozzmozz tent will no longer be the chill-out for the
hard-dance stage as we're moving to another location just like we're moving
from Sunday to Saturday so you've all got an extra day to recover!

Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Thank you all for joining us on Kozzmozz during such a hot, summer night !
The temperatures inside were even hotter due to the extensive dancing and
jumping around of all you party-freaks. We all needed a bit of an extra push
in the beginning but Marcel Dettmann did just that and got the main room off
to a great start. The atmosphere rose during Pacou Live who was the perfect
transition to the harder set of Robert Hood. In the meantime, the Ultra room
was boiling with fine tunes by Robert Kohlmann, Fader, Spacid and Franco
Cangelli and as usual Kr!z closed the main room with a bang.

Ostgut, Pacou from Tresor and Robert Hood who's just re-launched his M-Plant
label with as a first release his legendary Minimal Nation track. But do not
expect a minimal set from this techno master on Kozzmozz. He knows we like
the harder techno beats! And for those who like it a bit less pounding,
there is always the Ultra room. That room will be opened by the winner of
our young talent competition through Poppunt and that's Robert Kohlman from
Lier. A fan of the darker, hypnotic kind of techno and minimal and resident
at the famous Funk You! parties.

Here's the line-up of the night :

Concept :

For the summer edition of Kozzmozz we have invited some special guests again and we can guarantee you, it’s going to be one hell of a party again also!

Our first international star is Robert Hood also known as a founding member of the legendary collective Underground Resistance. With his latest album ‘Wire to wire’ he takes us to another level of musicality and sophistication within the world of electronic music. His latest project ‘Hoodmusic’ on Music Man Records brings a unique style of minimal techno back to the forefront and are singles leading up to an album. Around the time of this party a special ‘white vinyl’ version of the classic: “Minimal Nation” featuring unreleased music from the original recording sessions will also announce the re-birth of his own label M-Plant.

As second international guest we welcome Marcel Dettmann. He is resident of the famous and well-known German techno club, Berghain in Berlin for whom he also mixed their second compilation. Next to remixes for the likes of Ellen Allien, he also started his own label Marcel Dettmann Records on which he has released several of his own productions and some remixes. Marcel Dettmann is definitely on his way to the top with his exciting and refreshing look on current techno.

To end our international line-up we’ve invited a fellow countryman from Germany, Pacou. His main release was the experimental techno style LP "No computer involved" on Tresor. The newest project of Pacou is the vinyl label "Cache Records" on which he has steadily been bringing out records since 2005 with the latest one being the popular ‘Tangent’ release. He recently also named one of his tracks on the Special Operations EP on the Mental Disorder label ‘Kozzmozz’ so it was impossible to resist booking him again.

They are joined by Will O’Brien from Sub-Scape, a high quality techno concept in Café Capital in Antwerp, and our resident Kr!z who’s going strong with his label Token Records. Kr!z has been taking Token on the road with Token label nights in Shangai, London, Berlin, Rotterdam, … He has released 11 records in less then two years from artists such as Inigo Kennedy, Phase, Radial, Dimitri Andreas, Oscar Mulero and more.

For those who like their techno sounds in the style of Dettmann, we have added the Ultra concept to the festivities again. They will be brought to you by the better Belgian dj’s as well as a young talent. If you want to play in the Ultra room at Kozzmozz, post your demo’s on www.vi.be from Poppunt before June 7th.

Our resident Spacid will bring his collection of minimal records and as you know, when he’s behind the decks, all hands will go up in the air!  Franco Cangelli will also play in his hometown and has released records on labels such as ToysforBoys, Sushitech, Seventh Sign, … whilst also running the Aesthetik and Nowar labels with Akî and his own techno label Mowar.

Fader who works at NEWS takes care of labels such as Music man and Eskimo. It’s also the place from where he runs his own label Curle Recordings of which several tracks have been compiled by Sven Väth & Richie Hawtin. Perfect for the Ultra room we thought!

The artists:

Kozmozz main room

Robert Hood (MusicDe man, M-Plant, Axis rec, Detroit)

Robert Hood needs little introduction. Founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance as a 'Minister Of Information' with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks & Jeff Mills, his seminal works on Jeff Mill's Axis and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dancefloor minimalism that directed much of techno's path throughout the late Nineties. As Birmingham's Surgeon once remarked, 'When Hood released his pivotal 'Minimal Nation' EP in 1993, it was like a bomb went off.'

Robert Hood makes minimal Detroit techno with an emphasis on soul and experimentation over flash and popularity. Having recorded for Metroplex, as well as the Austrian Cheap label and Jeff Mills' Axis label, Hood also owns and operates the M-Plant imprint, through which he's released the bulk of his solo material.

As part of the original UR line up whose influential releases throughout the early and mid '90s helped change the face of modern Detroit techno and sparked a creative renaissance. Infusing elements of acid and industrial into a potent blend of Chicago house and Detroit techno, UR's aesthetic project and militant business philosophy were (and remain) singular commitments in underground techno. Hood left Detroit (and UR) with Jeff Mills in 1992, setting up shop in New York and recording a series of 12-inch Eps. He began to concentrate on his own production 'Vision EP', the 'Riot EP' and X-103 were big stepping-stones for him as they were the first releases he worked 100% on his own. The X-101 to X-102, were Waveform Transmission projects with Mills for Tresor. He slowly progressed to work more and more on his own, but collaberated on some of the first Axis releases with label owner Jeff Mills as H&M (Hood & Mills) with ‘Tranquilizer EP’ and ‘Drama’.

He soon decided it was time for him to start his own label to focus on what was in his soul musically and set up M-Plant in 1994 releasing singles such as "Internal Empire", “The Protein Valve”,"Music Data," and "Moveable Parts. "M-Plant is what I've always wanted to hear: the basic stripped down, raw sound. Just drums, basslines and funky grooves and only what's essential. Only what is essential to make people move. I started to look at it as a science, the art of making people move their butts, speaking to their heart, mind and soul. “It's a heart-felt rhythmic techno sound. M-Plant is just M. minimal."

Although his desire to remain underground has been replaced by an urge to reach a wider audience, Hood remains fiercely critical of artistic and economic movements destructive to inner-city communities and has combined his musical enterprises with outreach and social activist ends. With this in mind the seminal ‘Nighttime World Pt.1’ in 1995 and ‘Nighttime World Pt.2’ in 2000 incorporating Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop as well as Techno and House.

His debut Peacefrog album 'Point Blank' took Hood's hypnotic minimalism to entirely new depths and territories, whilst his last album 'Wire To Wire' takes his productions onto new levels of musicality and sophistication within the world of electronic music.

Most recently he embarked on a new project with Music Man records (Belgium) titled “HoodMusic”, bringing his unique style of minimal techno back to the forefront of what is going on in the music scenes today. These are a series of singles leading up to an album. Next to that he will also be re-launching his own M-Plant label with the first release being an exclusive white label of the classic ‘Minimal Nation’, out on June 15
th.

Marcel Dettmann (Ostgut Tonträger, MD rec, Berghain, Berlin)

Marcel Dettmann is one of the supporting pillars of the Berghain sound: Powerful, sexy and knowing in the right sense. One could also say he knows his edutainment. Since 1999 Marcel is and has been a steady fixture at both the old OstGut and the new Berghain.

The classic sounds of Chicago and Detroit have had a huge influence on him, but Marcel also says that “the music and the sets have to work, should have a soul and be ignorant of boundaries. I re-invent my dj philosophy for every new set, location and night. Generally, it is very important to me to play sets as varied as possible , fusing classic tracks with the contemporary ones”.

Besides his dj activities, Marcel also works at Berlin’s highly influential record store Hard Wax. The store’s excellent musical portfolio provides Dettmann with a constant inspiration for his upcoming projects. “Dawning/Dead Man Watches The Clock” on the label OstGut Ton is his first ever released record. It has gotten excellent feedback and was charted in Groove Magazine’s Top50 at number 2.

Dettmann started to produce and release tracks and remixes in 2006. Beside Ostgut Ton he runs his own label MDR on which he released some of his own tracks. In 2008 he mixed the ‘Berghain compilation 02’ with a rich and dark palette of sounds. He connects lost Detroit and Chicago classics like Strands “Zephyr”, Kevin Saundersons “Just Want Another Chance”, Deetron “Let’s get over it”, Planetary Assault Systems “Kat” and Risqué Rythum Teams “The Jacking Zone” with timeless, recent grooves taking on the rough, sketchy and dark energy of the old tracks. He also remixes for artists like Ellen Allien and labels like Rekids.

Pacou LIVE (Tresor, Cache Rec, Berlin)

Pacou started spinning in 1993 when he bought his first music equipment. Three years later, he produced, and then released his first records under the names "Agent Cooper" (on the label "Raw Music") and "Pacou" (on Tresor Records). Soon after, Tresor also released Pacou’s first long-play album "Symbolic Language", and he became a resident DJ at the club.

The year 1998 marked a substantial progress in both the DJ and production aspects of his work. He started playing DJ sets around Europe, Japan and Australia, and changed over to being a full-time musician and DJ. His main release at that time was the experimental techno style LP "No computer involved" on Tresor. In September 1998 Pacou also founded his first own label "LL Records", on which he released some of his own material and that of some friends. Remixes for Ben Sims and Access 58 from UK were also done at the time.

Another LP format "State of mind" was released in March 2000, followed by vinyl singles on the famous Dutch label Djax-Up-Beats. Tour dates again ranged from Brasil to Australia. Musical projects for 2001 included releases on the German "Konsequent" imprint, "Music Man" and "Djax" record labels.

New plans for 2003 included continued work on the Music Man label series "Rio Sketches", and starting a new Livemusic / performance project "Autofokus Music", which released 3 vinyl singles in 2004/ 05. Tresor released another single "Last Man Standing" in February 2004 and a whole album "The Berlin Sessions" produced with Juan Atkins in 2005.

His latest project is the vinyl label "Cache Records". It was started in May 2005, October 2008 saw the 11th release. So far Pacou played in more than 20 countries, and so the story will continue... spreading the good vibe.

Kr!z (Token rec, Kozzmozz, BXL)

Kr!z's  story with electronic music started after walking the many genres of music. He didn’t need much time to feel the heat of the vibe as it was a mere comparison between his heartbeat and the one of energetic techno.

He earned spots on some main events in Belgium: he got invited by Kozzmozz (7
th, 10th and 11th anniversary) & Fuse, where he still plays on regular basis. A demo of this solid pumping techno sound was picked up by the national radio show ‘Switch’ whom offered him a spot in the new talents room of I Love Techno. His dj-schedule gets him all around Belgium, with gigs across the borders of France and Netherlands and as far as Shangaï.

And now just released is Tokenspec1x - Phase – Morodem remixes – includes Ben Sims remixes.

Will O’Brien (Sub-scape, Antwerp)

Will O’Brien is a dj from Antwerp with roots from Ireland. He is one of the founders and resident dj. of Sub-Scape, a high quality club night in Café Capital.

The famous Sub-Scape  parties are known for their perfect musical combinations of UK rave, Detroit techno, electro, acid, house, idm and minimal. Some of their international guests include Carl Craig, Fabrice Lig, Steve Rachmad, Dan Curtin,…

Ultra Room

Spacid (Retro acid, Ultra, Ghent)

Together with some friends, Spacid organised his first party in 1992, which turned out to be a big success. After a few parties in the club Carioca, he was involved in setting up the club Cirao in Waregem Belgium. He was 17 then. The club was short-lived but is still remembered as one the legendary and trendsetting clubs in Belgium.

1994 saw the founding of Funky Green Aliens, a party organisation and booking agency concentrating on promoting groundbreaking music & arts and introducing international artists to the Belgian scene. These parties, mostly illegal, were very successful and still to this day represent the true roots of Spacid's dj career.

By 1997 he was propelled to slots at the biggest clubs and parties in Belgium and abroad, such as Dance Valley, Ten Days Off and Kozzmozz. His name started popping up in all major Belgian clubs and events and today he is resident at various important party concepts such as Body To Body at the famous Culture Club, Beats Of Love, Elektron, Retro Acid, Ultra ..

Apart from a busy dj schedule in Belgium he regularly plays abroad. Just have a look at line-ups of parties, festivals and clubs in France, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Poland and Malta. e manned the decks in British clubs and parties like Club Trash, Herbal, The Key, House of God, Downtownsounds, Human Zoo, Death disco and played in about every major Dutch club such as Paradiso, Club 013, Melkweg, Effenaar, Doornroosje. He was even invited at the Berlin Weekend club and Paris's 'Respect is Burning'.

A real ambassador of the vibrant club scene, both his quest for innovation and his reverence for the past transpire in his work as a dj. Spacid's sets are fuelled by an underlying thought process aimed at providing party people a good time and at the same time opening up music that is less evident to a larger public.

Here he will bring an upfront minimal set.

Franco Cangelli (Mowar, Persistencebit, 7th Sign Rec, Ghent)

Franco Cangelli stands for an uncompromising quality punch, spiked with motor-city soulfulness and Chicago jack while still gently pushing the envelope. Feel free to call his music deep techno, Detroit techno, deep house… he doesn’t really care about monikers anyway.

Hailing from Gent Belgium, he made his debut with the successful 2005 release Spectre on Belgian imprint Toys For Boys. Since then he went on to release on various labels such as Sushitech, Aesthetik, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit and his own imprint Mowar.
