Ben and I believe strongly that people have a right to health care. Life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness don't mean very much if you're sick and you can't afford to get better. Hopefully someday in this country we'll have universal health care, but in the mean time we believe that a robust public option is the next best thing. Under the current system there are currently around 46 million Americans without basic health coverage. Insurance companies and corporate interests have simply not done a good enough job for a large percentage of our fellow Americans. Ben and I are lucky. We live in Austin. Even during periods when we've not been able to obtain coverage through an employer here we've always had access to health care. The city of Austin makes a large amount of money by billing itself as the "Live Music Capitol of the World". Because the city understands the value of it's musicians it provides affordable health care to working musicians who make below a certain income level. The HAAM and SIMS organizations that provide these services are literally life savers to ourselves and other musicians throughout Austin. We know we are lucky. We hope to see a day when all Americans do not have to worry about where their health care is coming from. Because we believe so strongly in this issue we wrote a song called "Don't Get Sick in the USA". You can listen to it and download it for free here on our myspace site. We promise, it's not preachy and it's not a downer. We hope it'll put some spring in your step as you help us and others spread the word about health care reform. -Jeff Please contact your representatives, donate money, or sign a petition for real health care reform. “Always do whatever’s next.” -George Carlin Brave Souls, Thanks to everyone who attended our performances during SXSW 2009. The city of Austin and its inhabitants are now looking towards the future, and No Show Ponies is gearing up for some of the biggest shows of our career. For starters, we are thrilled to announce our television appearance on KHOU’s Great Day Houston! this Friday, March 27th. We will be promoting the release of our album The End of Feel Good Music and performing on the program for a live studio audience. Please set your VCR’s, DVR’s and Tevo’s to “record” for what promises to be a very special engagement for the band and our fans. Thanks to Rose Reyes, Jennifer Walker and Beth Krauss from the ACVB for this stellar opportunity. Following our performance on Great Day Houston! you can catch us in Austin the same evening (Friday, March 27th - 9:00pm) for our performance at Momo’s where we will be playing an hour-plus set of material from The End of Feel Good Music. Momo’s is one of our favorite clubs in Austin and we are thrilled to perform for our regular/trusty/loyal crowd here in town in a post-SXSW environment. The usual shout outs, tambourine-playing guests, low-to-the-ground dance moves, and rock & roll antics still apply. Rounding out our exciting March calendar, we encourage one and all to join us for our headlining appearance at the 2009 Zilker Garden Festival this Saturday, March 28th (4:00pm). We have the lovely Laura Joseph and the divine David Rockwood to thank for what we promise will be a high-stakes, high-octane, high-energy and high-timed showcase in the beautiful setting of the Zilker Botanical Gardens. This event will be an affair for the whole family, so come one, come all and come early. Lots of great music to be heard. March is nearing a close and we’re marching towards our April 9th CD release party at Club DeVille with three great shows this week. We’re excited to see you all at KHOU’s Great Day Houston!, Momo’s and the 2009 Zilker Garden Festival. Sweet & Sour Grapes, -The Brothers Brown....

“Beware the barrenness of busy life.” -Socrates Brave Souls, The time has come for South by Southwest 2009, and we’re excited to announce our performance schedule for the festival. In a few days time, the city of Austin will be inundated with thousands of new faces, and we’d like you to keep No Show Ponies in mind when you’re deciding what to do amongst all the sights and sounds. This Saturday, March 14 (2pm) you can catch our acoustic performance at ZonePerfect’s live.create. lounge. We will be performing stripped-down versions of our songs from The End of Feel Good Music, as well as some other NSP originals. This will be a great opportunity to hear our songs as some of you have never heard them before. On Wednesday, March 18 (4:30pm) we will be performing for a private agency party at GSD&M’s Idea City. We had the opportunity to perform inside Idea City a few weeks ago for Roy Spence’s book signing, and we’re excited to perform for the first time on the back patio for the entire agency and their guests. This party is not open to the general public, but we’re so thrilled to be there that we had to share it with everyone. We hope to get some good pictures to share with all of you. Finally, we will be making our debut appearance at one of our favorite nightspots next Saturday, March 21 (2pm) at The Ranch on West 6th Street. We’ve had more than our fair share of drinks at The Ranch and we’re happy to return the favor by performing there during the circus that is SXSW. Thanks to Peter and Adam for this exciting opportunity. Ben will be hanging with Elaine Garza and the rest of the folks from Giant Noise throughout the festival. We hope to see many of you during the festivities and we promise to do our best to entertain you should you make it to one of our performances. We look forward to seeing you there. Happy Hunting. “I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours.” -Hunter S. Thompson
Brave Souls, The good Dr. Thompson makes a salient point; however, truth will be on OUR SIDE this Saturday afternoon at Saxon Pub (3:00 p.m.). The truth of the matter is we hope you’ll be there, too. Also, don’t forget to catch No Show Ponies this Wednesday night (9:00 p.m.) at Big Mouth Southwestern Grill in Bastrop, TX, where we will be in Pete “The Beat” territory. This will be our first show in Bastrop and we’re excited to see all our folks who have been making the drive to Austin each time we’ve played.
Finally, thanks to all in attendance last Friday evening at Tiniest Bar in Texas for what was a real ‘tent revival.’ Shinyribs, Mother Truckers, and many of our dear friends. The Traveling Wilbury’s sing-along finale was a true highlight (was Jeff channeling George Harrison???). Stay tuned for some big show announcements next week…
