for us in the Midwest, summer is over. regardless, i had my fun, sharing the stage with such talented artists as Tony Lucca, Matt Duke, Tyrone Wells, Jay Nash, Paperbear, Baron Von Something, Brian Krumm, Dan Mills and the too-many-to-mention other folks i played with over these past few months. the Schubas Practice Space residency was definitely a highlight and i thank them for letting me commandeer the joint for all those Mondays in august. and many thanks to all of you who came out to the shows -- especially the repeat offenders: much appreciated.

the fall is already starting out well since i had the pleasure of playing with Joe Pug and San Francisco band Or, the Whale for a "Daytrotter presents..." show at RIBCO in Rock Island, IL. great people and fantastic songs. i'm looking forward to heading back to NYC, this time to play the CMJ Festival on Oct. 20th at the Canal Room (such a fancy place -- it looks like Bond would hang there). on our return home, we'll be stopping back at the Tin Angel in Philly on the 22nd, this time to play with Michael Tolcher. for the rest of the fall, it's touch and go for shows, but i'll be recording an EP on my "time off" to give you something new to chew on going into the new year. i'll have more info on that over the next few weeks that will give you an opportunity to take part in an exclusive offer we're rolling out.

in the mean time, stay warm if need be and stay tuned for what's on the horizon...

Hello, All...

Thanks to everyone that came out during my recent run through the Midwest. The tour was capped off with a near-sellout crowd at Park West in Chicago opening for Toad the Wet Sprocket -- always good to see & hear Glen Phillips (nicest. guy. ever.).  We had an absolute blast and appreciate all the kindness shown to us by the audience, the folks at JAM Productions, and the PW staff.

New show dates and appearances continue to be added to the calendar for the summer and fall. Upcoming dates include:

8/8/09: Templeton, IA - Rock & Rye Festival @ Templeton Rye Distillery
8/9/09: Des Moines, IA - Vaudeville Mews (Special Full Band Show)
8/10/09: Chicago, IL - Schuba's Tavern - "Practice Space" Residency
8/13/09: New York, NY - Sullivan Music Hall w/Dan Mills, Taylor Carson
8/16/09: Des Moines, IA - Iowa State Fair
8/17/09: Chicago, IL - Schuba's Tavern - "Practice Space" Residency
8/22/09: Davenport, IA - River Roots Live Festival
8/24/09: Chicago, IL - Schuba's Tavern - "Practice Space" Residency
8/31/09: Chicago, IL - Schuba's Tavern - "Practice Space" Residency

On August 12th, I'll be making a television appearance on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" show in support of my upcoming Schuba's "Practice Space" residency.

And in celebration of the upcoming Schuba's residency, Chicago artist Graham Ebetsch has created a limited edition show poster.  This fine work o' art will be available for purchase at the Schubas shows -- oooo, signed by yours truly! -- and numbered and signed by the talented Mr. Ebetsch, as well.  You can view the poster on my website to get a little preview.  Your walls are craving this graphic treat.

Be sure to visit www.dickprall.com regularly for new songs, tour updates, and general mayhem.  And don't forget to come out and say hello if I creep into your town.

All the best,
Dick

ahhh the smell of newness…

well, we have a historic election behind us and now the real work begins – preparing rock shows.  we're busting our bootys in getting ready for the next run of shows in December, which entails getting our new drummer, new lead guitar slinger, and new keyboard/sax/guitar/flute/whateverthehellelse player familiar with all the tunes.  after only a couple o' practices, I've been leaving rehearsals with a giant smile on my face 'cuz this configuration is quite the boon.  it's pretty much the pinnacle of talent, and I'm the charmed lad who gets to share the stage with 'em, folks.

if you're in the Chicago area, then pop out to the Double Door on December 4th to see the inaugural performance of the new group.  and for the Iowa contingency, we'll be taking our wares to Des Moines' People's Court on December 12th and Davenport's Redstone Room on December 13th. the latter a reunion with our dear mates the Nadas. (extra livers will be packed.)

I hope the year is promising to end on a high note for all of you and I equally hope that you're able to come see our looming antics…

best,

Dick

hi, kids…

I'm winding this summer down with one last stint in Iowa before the leaves make their colorful exodus and I'm able to once again sport my adored scarves, for which I must admit, I have a bit of an odd affection toward.  What the fall also brings is a chance for me to begin holing up in the studio every few weeks to pop out a fresh song for your ears to (hopefully) warm up to.  I'll keep you posted when you can hop online and download them.

For the good folks in Decorah, IA and the surrounding area, swing out this Saturday night to hear yours truly open for the Nadas at Marty's CyberCafe on the Luther College Campus.  And for those fine people of Des Moines, I'll be playing a solo acoustic show at AK O'Connors in Beaverdale – your last chance to witness lil' ol' me in the area for a spell.  and to watch me get over-served.  (It's really not my fault.  It's the damn staff at AK's.)

So, I hope you can make it out to the shows, and I'm happy to announce that you'll be able to get your hands (or iPods – or is it more proper to say mp3 players?) onto some new music from the Dick Prall camp very soon.  Hope you likey…

All the best… ~ Dick

Hello All -

I just want to thank everyone who has come out to my shows over the summer.  It makes the long drives and outdated CD's worth it when I see all you awfully kind people making your own trek to watch me/us play.  I also appreciate the boxes of corn flakes that have been brought for me to sign.  (clever)  I think Kellogg's has seen a spike in sales in Iowa.  I should call them for a commission.

Well, I have another long drive coming us this weekend, so I'm hoping to see some of you at the shows this Friday in Cedar Falls and Saturday in Minneapolis.  It would make for a happy Dickie.  An extra treat is that the very talented violist Renee Rapier will be joining me for this stint, PLUS Will Locker, drummer for the great Josh Davis Band, will pitch in as percussionist extraordinaire on Friday night.  Both are fantastic musicians from my great homeland  o' Iowa, so it's cool to get to share the stage with them.

In other news – of the personal kind – I wanted to share is that my dear and beautiful girlfriend has actually agreed to marry me.  yes… it's true… she caved.  One thing to note for you single folks out there: don't let your own dear and beautiful girlfriend drink too much champagne on the night of your engagement or she might lose the ring that you just unloaded a vintage guitar's worth of dough on.  oh… and don't forget the insurance too.  We fortunately found the ring, but I almost had a grabber in the process since it wasn't insured quite yet.  Lesson learned.

Anyway, everyone, thanks for all of the support and I look forward to crashing on your floors soon…

Dick

hello, All... well, I’ll be putting my weekend warrior shoes away and replacing them with some touring kicks come the end of this month.

I’m quite excited to share with you the news that I’ll be opening the Midwest leg of the Pete Francis (of Dispatch) and Matt Pond PA tour, April 25th - May 3rd beginning in not-so-Midwest Pittsburgh.

it’s just lil’ ol’ Dickie with his acoustic guitar attempting to penetrate the ear canals and souls of the anxiously-awaiting Francis/Pond crowd -- I may bring candy to chuck into the audience.  who doesn’t like someone who gives them candy?  (um... wait a minute... )

so, I do hope I land in your neck of the woods, or at least close enough to where you can make the trek to come see the show and enjoy a root beer barrel or two...
