Please support this important campaign. My mom is heading off to Tallahassee in Feb. with the American Cancer Society / Cancer Action Network to talk with our state reps about supporting the tax increase. We all need to get onboard this and make a difference.

And my 2007 Fringe Crush video:
Monday, April 28, 2008
Friday night while at Relay for Life, the night my mom was so excited about and had been planning all year for, fell and broke her femur bone. It's not fair, she already broke her right femur bone 3 years ago, so now she has metal rods in both her legs. She was all healed too, was walking great, felt great, was doing great overall. Why??? It doesn't make sense that one of her cancer medicine's makes her bones stronger while another makes them weaker. When I saw her on the ground with her leg bent the way it was I lost it completely. I don't like seeing my mom in pain. The surgery went really well and the doctor was very proud of himself after. Last night when I saw her she told me she "hopped" a little. Which is really good. The last time she broke her leg all she was able to do was stand and move her leg a little. While she screamed a whole lot. She said she was still screaming a bit, but she got a lot further than before. She'll be moved to a rehab center either Tuesday or Wednesday this week, and she'll be there as long as it takes for her to learn to walk again and any other "normal" things she has to do with her leg. I just thought I'd update everyone incase you didn't know what happened.

Here are two videos from Pillowlando! And also check out my pictures! :)

Saturday, February 23, 2008
As you can see from the volunteer schedule below, we are still in need of many volunteers for "Leap Year Day" and very much hope you decide to join us for the most significant 24 hour event in Orlando since the opening of IKEA!

If you are planning on signing up, please - pick a shift now and let me know your t-shirt size, as after they're ordered on Monday, what we have is what you'll get.

Feel free to pass this along to anyone you believe cares about making Orlando a safer place for public art in general and performance art (time-based art) in particular.

Thanks for your support? Always.

About The Project:
At 12:00am (Midnight) on Friday, February 29, 2008 -- "Leap Year Day," an unprecedented (and entirely unexpected) performance art piece, will commence directly in front of Orlando City Hall at City Commons Plaza (400 S. Orange Ave., Orlando, FL 32802). For 24 consecutive hours, every 3:56 seconds and a total of 366 times, performance artist Brian Feldman will leap off of a 12-foot-high summit.

Featuring the scenic and lighting design of Curtiss Lee Mitchell and sound design by Jason Kupfer, these elements combined with Brian's improvised leaps will serve to create a dreamlike effect for spectators who are invited to experience firsthand this once-in-a-lifetime endurance spectacle, in a continuous performance the likes of which has never been seen in downtown Orlando.

Needed:
48 volunteers during the 24 hours of the event on Leap Year Day (Friday, February 29), along with another 12 for set-up and strike (can be comprised from the 48 day-of-event volunteers).

Set-Up Crew/Strike Crew
Under the direction of "Leap Year Day" Production Manager Curtiss Lee Mitchell, you will wear the event t-shirt and do whatever is needed in order to ready the site for Brian's arrival to the event site at approximately 11:30pm. This includes putting up the infrastructure, hanging lights, working on signage, the works. It will not be easy, but then again, neither is Brian's leaping for 24 hours. (You get a delicious sandwich!)

"Leap Year Day" Ambassador
You will wear the event t-shirt (not for sale to the public) and offer complimentary "Leap Year Day" programs and commemorative buttons (while supplies last) to everyone at the event site, as well as answer any questions they may have about the piece. (You get vegan cookies!)

Everyone gets invited to the "Leap Year Day" Volunteer Appreciation party in March!

How To Sign Up:
Simply e-mail your name (how you'd like it to appear in the program), telephone number and t-shirt size, along with your first preferred time slot to: LYD@brianfeldman.com . If you would also put 2nd Choice and 3rd Choice next to your second and third choice preferences, that'd be very helpful in scheduling. (We will attempt to accommodate any special circumstances as best we can.)

Below you will find the complete volunteer schedule, including how long you would be needed and how many volunteers are required for each shift. In order to engage as many participants as possible, it is asked that you please only enlist for one day-of-event shift (1-24). You are welcome (and encouraged) to sign-up for either Set-Up Crew or Strike Crew, or both, in addition to one day-of-event shift.

Leap Year Day
a performance art piece by Brian Feldman
February 29th, 2008; 12am to 11:59pm.
Tickets: Free
City Hall at City Commons Plaza, 400 South Orange Avenue

About:
At 12:00am Friday, February 29, 2008 an unprecedented performance art piece, BEGINS in front of Orlando City Hall and will run for 24 consecutive hours, for a total of 366 times called "Leap Year Day." What can viewers expect? Performance artist Brian Feldman will leap off of a 12-foot-high summit 366 times. This performance art piece is partially inspired by Roy SHIFRINS's sculpture "The Leaper," located at the entrance to the ORANGE County Administration Center.

Artist Brian Feldman:
"The fact that there isn't really anything "for" Leap Year Day, event-wise, was an intriguing blank slate for me as an artist. I hope people will consider time, how they spend it, how they spend a day, specifically this extra day, this extra opportunity to make a change in their lives thanks to a quirk of the Gregorian calendar. Also, The dearth of public art, especially performance art, lends itself to an unknowing ambivalence about the art form. As such, this piece is my personal attempt at jump starting, no pun intended, more opportunities for like-minded artists..."

Swag:
Complimentary "Leap Year Day" programs and buttons will be handed out.

Forward this to everyone you know who loves art!!!!
