empress alice tarot watercolor. i
was painting it to warm up to do a tat on jeremy's alice sleeve. i'd
like to tattoo it bigger now. no camera for alice sleeve yet.
MDC is touring thru, but the closest they come to me is covington KY, by cincinatti. check out my art on the big banner behind them!

the cost of my smokes, american spirit tobacco, has almost doubled! i've never seen a commodity go up this fast my whole life! i'm going to plant some tobacco this year, i've grown it before. next year i hope i can get the good seeds of the stuff i used to grow(nicotiana rustica pumilla).

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen SSP didn’t stay on the stage for a minute, marching into the audience. At one point they even marched out the door into a small supermarket, with everyone dancing and parading behind! A profound thing when you’re acoustic but loud. They
took 3 of my requests, rare songs I had no idea they knew. The woman
isn’t always with them, so it was great they had her to do a bitchin

The Struggle Against Mountaintop Removal: Leading Activist Mike Roselle Continues Fight Against Destructive Coal Mining The
Environmental Protection Agency recently dealt a blow to the coal
mining industry when it delayed hundreds of mountaintop coal mining
projects for a new review of their environmental impact. But the EPA
decision still leaves in place hundreds of existing permits for
mountaintop removal. The group Climate Ground Zero has been leading
protests and peaceful direct actions against the company Massey Energy
to prevent mountaintop removal at Coal River Mountain in West Virginia.
We speak with leading activist Mike Roselle of Climate Ground Zero.

a crapload of cool pis here~
night of the living dead poster girl tat i did on corey. still a little flakey so i'll replace this as i get a better pic.more trajedy for helen, her cabin burns to the ground!
we
had a work party at helen's over the weekend. worked on her sister's
cabin, which helen may have to stay in til we get her a new cabin built. she
came to our neighborhood in the 80's and started building her cabin the
same time i started ours. almost complete, her balcony lacked a
railing, leading to the tragic accident that has left her paralyzed. always
the rowdiest fun person around, her accident gave even more edge to her
terse humor. i bought my first kz1000 motorcycle from helen, who had a
lot more hotrod stories of her time on it than i ever notched on my
belt. recently she's had a real full force brewery going at her
place, quite the beer arteest. i was planning on drawing her beer label.
here's the gazette front page article from last saturday~

Hamlin woman rebuilding home after fire
HAMLIN, W.Va .
- More than 20 years ago, Helen Hervey built a one-room log cabin for
herself in Lincoln County. Two weeks ago, she watched her home burn to
the ground. With family and friends by her side, and despite being confined to a wheelchair, she is starting again from scratch. "2009 is the new 1987," she said. Hervey,
49, settled in West Virginia in the early 1980s. Originally from
Cleveland, she traveled the country on her motorcycle. The friends she
made brought her to Lincoln County in the early 1980s, and inspired her
to settle in the area. "I
wanted to live the simple life, or at least what I thought was simple,"
she said. "I was just flabbergasted that, here it was in the 1980s, and
there were people living out in the woods, growing their own food [and
living off the land]." She began looking for property, and in 1985, she purchased 50 acres outside Hamlin for $5,000. "After
I perused the country, West Virginia was the best place to settle," she
said. "It's very hard to communicate to people just how beautiful [this
state] is."

it's a mile hike up(and i mean up!) to my place, most of my stuff i packed in. no water pump so i haul drinking water from a spring a half mile away, and i carry wash water from my pond.

This is a Petrolia post mortem photo by Robson . It was extremely expensive to have a photo taken during Victorian times. Only the wealthy could afford such a luxury. If a child or other loved one died it was a common practice to have a photo taken either alone or as in this case with the family especially if there was not yet a living likeness. If you look closely you can see a base behind the girls feet and a post would go up from that with clamps at the waist and neck and the clothing would be open at the back. The arms would have stiff wires running at the back to hold them in place. Also notice the strange placement of the hands. The pupils are painted on the closed eyelids. It was not until after ca.1900 with Mr. Eastman's film process that photography became available inexpensively, as we know it today. Post mortems were very common in Victorian times and if you look closely at portraits from pre ca.1900 you may have one of these photos. This photo ca.1888
