i know i know, i do this kind of thing all the time. so almost three months later and again i'm writing the same blog. but here is the story: i wasn't happy with the artwork so i asked meredith to redo it and she did a great job. we used her original artwork this time, a piece she made when she was inspired to work on something, not when i said, 'hey can you make me a record cover.' if someone asked me to make a song like that it probably wouldn't sound too great. so anyway there it is, up on the main page. i will receive the test copies in the mail in a couple days and if that goes well inshallah then i will let all of you know and hopefully we can get the music in your hands. its funny, because when i released brown circles, i set a goal for myself to release another album by the same time the next year. well, i missed that deadline by over a year, but its been a big project and i'm happy with it, so what the heck. that said, the next project will probably be a bit more stripped down, so maybe i could make that year mark next time. oh, one more thing: when fire & gold has finally been released and people have been listening to it for a bit, i plan on releasing the acoustic ten thousand songs ep as a hard copy record. but that won't be for a bit. until next time, enjoy the songs i have up, brian.

hello everyone.
so the record is finished. mastered, track order decided, artwork finished.
in the end it is 15 songs.
i have posted 6 of these.
for the other 9 songs, i will have hard copies ready in the next couple of weeks. until then, you can pre-order by sending $9 ($7 cd + $2 shipping) via paypal to brian.e.bond@gmail.com or wait until i post again on this site saying i have them in my hands and we'll figure it out then.
i'll be doing a record release show probably in a couple weeks when everything is all ready and figured out. until then i thought i would let you all know what's up and give you a chance to hear what i've been fussing about for longer than i expected to be doing so.
enjoy, brian.

i know i haven't updated this thing at all this summer, so i thought i would take a moment to let people know i am still hard at work on various musical things.

fire & gold: so there were some hitches, namely in the mastering process, but its being sorted out and fire & gold is still movin' along. meredith and i had a very productive artwork brainstorming session the other day, and she called the next day after working on it a bit and said it was looking 'crazy'. which is awesome. so when i get the master and we finalize that artwork, everything should be go.

in other news, i have really been putting a lot of my efforts into communipaw's new record and its been pretty awesome. so be sure to check us out at myspace.com/communipawmusic

hope all of you are well, b.

So, while I was waiting for the string quintet to make another appearance in my living room I decided to take the time to do something I’ve been wanting to do for a while (see note below). I am posting the result of that, which is recorded versions of six new songs. All the songs are download-able, this will probably be an exclusively online (and free) release. Enjoy.

---

Recorded on quarter-inch 4-track analog tape, mixed in Cubase, and mastered in Logic by Brian Bond between March 29 and April 6, 2008.

Brian Bond: vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, lapsteel, Farfisa organ.

A note to the listener:
I recorded all acoustic guitars and vocals live on Saturday March 29 and added the other vocals and instruments throughout the following week. One motivation for recording the EP was to do a project on the thirty-something-year-old tape machine that usually sits unused in my room, mostly because of its inconvenience relative to digital computer-based recording. The other was to record something that fully embraced the limitations presented by 4-track tape. That meant no editing, no endless takes (the tape snapped twice so there wasn’t really an option of rewinding many times), and no acoustic songs that always seem to end up with 30 tracks of keyboards and Tylenol bottle shakers…It also meant being able to record and play music without a computer screen in front of me, and instead to sit and watch the reels spin, and to know that when I had recorded on all four tracks, the song was finished.

so here is the deal.

pretty much done with final mixes for 16 songs.
otherwise, 1 song needs some violin and another one needs to be redone. (that ’another one’ is a song called ’a linger, a tide’ - on sunday david esterman (communipaw/know think) crowded into my living room with four other musicians (so, guitar, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass) and recorded live the string arrangement dave and i have been working on. the arrangement worked really well, but unfortunately we need to redo it to make sure the intonation on those fretless instruments won’t disturb your ears.)

but here is the listing (sort of in order) for the album, which should be done totally finished (by that i mean packaged etc) in the next month or so.

1. farfisa
2. the north country (2)
3. till morning comes
4. pass (interlude)
5. astrology
6. house for an easy heart
7. ink
8. somewhere else
9. mississippi (interlude-esque song)
10. keep your eyes on me
11. a linger, a tide
12. le canadien
13. seclusion
14. rocknroll
15. on the seine
16. more than a whisper
17. sacajawea
18. fall when i am gone

yeah, i know, its a lot to handle. but it will be fun, i swear.
you’ve heard some of these on this page, but there should be quite a few that will be new.

i’m totally excited. b.
