Dont abandon the top water lures just yet. I know the Sun is hot and it tends to drive fish way down deep., but you never know when the bass will strike the top water after a schooling group of minnows. Have it ready to throw and you just might pick him off. Also during the heat look for docks and bridges that sort of thing throw a spook or a foot loose crank bait something that makes top water action. You just might be able to draw a strike.

Well my co-pilot for yesterday was my cousin Mark. We hit the water around 5:00 and fished till 8:00. I started out Carolina rigging and he was Texas rigging. After about 20 minutes we moved and changed lures too. Water temp was 90 Degrees and the fish where busting top out from the bank in about 20-30 feet of water. Was we approached I noticed what was causing the strikes it was the schooling minnows. The fish where like wild packs of dogs surrounding the minnows. I picked up a Rapala Spook. I managed to pull 8 fish out of the group that where busting around us. Top water action is as was fun. Mark used a Heddon pop-r and was able to pull 2 fish out .

Wow what a great day. My cousin Darren and I hit Gibson County Lake this morning. Top water action was all over. We got out the old Bill Dance pop R's and had a blast. Within 30 mintues we both had serval good slot fish. As the day progressed we moved to the deeper water and Carolina Rigged some worms, and had a blast. Almost instantly I had a fish on. One of my first times fishing this way. In a really stumpy lake.

I love rainy weather bass fishing. I think alot of people run when the weather comes in. Tough it our get a good rain suit. IF the lighting comes then get off the water. I promise one of the best days of my life fishing was with my cousin in the rain at Gibson County Lake. I know I might never have a another day in the rain like that. Just remeber the fish are feeding in the rain.
Later Will
See you on the water

Hit the water yesterday afternoon with my cousin Darren. We made are way to Lake Graham for a few hours. The weather was awsome. It rained the entire time . The perfect Bass weather in my opion. Started on the NW bank almost instanly we started catching fish. I was using black Cluprit worm. He was using a baby brush hog red , and a punkin seed colored lizard. I did pick up a crank bait a few time just to work some ares fatster. I pulled the best bass of the afternoon with it 2.5 lbs on a pineapple colored crank. My trusty old FLW rain suite keep me dry. My cousin has the same one so he was dry as well. The day ended like this. 12 bass all around 1-2 lbs biggest being 2.5lbs not a bad day for only 2 hours fishing.

I got a new trick. Have your ever wanted to leave a crank bait in the strike zone longer in deep water. well this just might help you out. Check it out let me know how it works. Take a snap weight snap to the line about 4 to 5 feet infront of the crank. this might have to be played with to reach the desired depth you are lookign for. Also remember I would suggest to run this in a clear kinda open water area. Or prepare to buy a bait catcher or lose your poket book on the cranks. I hope this helps with the summer heat

Sunday my wife an I headed to Lake Graham first thing. Weather was great and water was clam. I started on a bank I know well. We managed to pull some smaller fish off some areas that normally hold fish using a 7.5" black Culprit worm I'm very found of. My wife was also jerking some lips with the 7.5" crawdad colored Culprit worm. In the latter part of the morning I had a new worm I wanted to try out. The sun had raised it's old head to heat the lake and drive the fish deeper. I set the new worm up a 12" soft work made by Hooked Up Bait Company. A darker motor oil color with bright green fleck. Fishing in 18-25' of water I was able to pull a few smaler fish out. all in all the day was great and the new worm will be added to the box as a go to plastic.
