The Reduced Shakespeare Company appeared on National Public Radio's "Weekend Edition" July 13, 2008, reducing NPR's "In Character" series.

For the previous several months, NPR's "In Character" series examined the impact of fictional American characters on our lives. We naturally applaud the reductive notion of distilling our national experience into a single American character.

But we also know the dark underside of wanton reduction. With our unique access to NPR's most familiar voices and distinguished journalists, we discovered that the "In Character" series opened a Pandora's Box of competing characters and conflicting egos - all within the hallowed hallways of NPR itself.

We’ve been nominated for Best Touring Production in the 2007 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards!  No, seriously - look!

And the nominees are (winner to be announced April 2008):

Avenue Q - Best of Broadway

Kooza - Cirque du Soleil

Legally Blonde - Best of Broadway

We consider this nomination an honor, a privilege, and further proof that moving quickly from city to city is completely intentional.

You can either send an MP3 file to info@reducedshakespeare.com or visit our Podcast webpage to leave us a voice message on the MobaTalk Comment System - all you need is a microphone and a mouse!

The submission deadline is Friday, November 30th.  We hope to hear from you!

The RSC's on TV! (Sort of.)

We'll be taping a second presentation (because the first one went so well!) of "The Week Reduced", a late night comedy show currently being considered by TBS.

"The Week Reduced", created by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor, will be a weekly half-hour satire of TV news programs, sort of a combination of "Weekend Update" and "The McLaughlin Group", that makes no distinctions between serious and light news.  Nicole Richie's weight-loss will be treated with the same seriousness and gravity as the War in Iraq.  Probably more.

Taping will be held at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood on Thursday night, November 1, 2007.  You can book your FREE tickets for "The Week Reduced" one of two ways:

Book by Phone - call 818-753-3470 and follow the prompts
Book by Internet - visit
tvTickets.com and select "The Week Reduced"

Come and watch the RSC make television history - one way or the other.  The TBS big-wigs will be there.  And so should you.

We have 3 great new actors currently on the Ireland Tour.  Austin had the opportunity to interview them after a rousing performance of ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (abridged) in Culver, Indiana a couple weeks before crossing the pond.

Noah Brody
Ryan Dietz
Dustin Sullivan

Can you guess which one...

  • played a teabag in a UK commercial for Options Speed Dating?

  • was a chemist and a body model for bathingsuits and underwear?

  • has read only 3 works of literature featured in ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (abridged) - and got hired anyway?

Listen to Podcast 41 - The Irish Guys to find out!  We know the teabag trivia has got you curious.

While you're at it, check out all the other RSC Podcasts!
