What the hell is going on with IDW?  Many of you may have asked yourself this very question at some point.  I thought I'd give everyone an update on what's been going on with us as of late.

Clearly the past year has held a lot of changes for the band.  First there was the addition of Brent on bass last September, the addition of Chris on guitar in December, and now Randy has left.  We had a prospective drummer from the day we knew Randy was leaving and he has spent the past two weeks jamming with us.  He has played his first two shows with us and we're all very happy to welcome Ryan Cox into the band.  Ryan was a founding member of local favorites Gift of Prophecy and we've known and played shows with him for years.  He's a great dude and a very talented and creative drummer.  He's adding some new flavor into IDW and we're all stoked to hear what he's going to offer in the writing process.  Next time you're able to come out to a show be sure to say what's up and make him feel welcome.

On the note of writing, we were a little sidetracked for a couple of weeks getting Ryan up to par with our set, but now we're back to it.  We're 7 songs in and have little bits and pieces to get together for at least three more, hopefully more.  Anyone that's been to a Seattle show lately has heard a couple of the new ones, including the intro, "New Age Holocaust", "FDA", and "Extermination Process".  We've got a cool instrumental going as well as a couple others that we're just getting the kinks worked out of.  Things are coming along though and we're really happy with everything we're writing.

As far as how it's going to be released, we're fairly certain we have found a new label to work with.  Nothing is set in stone as of yet, so we aren't going to be saying anything at this point, but hopefully within the next few months we'll have some news for you all.

We're also getting a tour set up for most of the month of September.  Specifics are still being worked out for that as well and we're not announcing too much about that until the details are set with that also.  Keep a watch out though, it looks like we'll be going as far as New York and will be hitting places we've never been before.

We're really excited for you guys to finally get to hear our new stuff and even more excited to get to play for people outside of Washington.  Keep a watch on the page for more updates.  Thanks for your support!!

If you're of the Twittering flock, you can now stalk the band and a few of its members.  Follow us if you're interested in reading our mindless banter.

Current mood:  sad
Any of you who have been with I Declare War for a while certainly know Randy has been with the band since the beginning.  It is with very heavy heart that we have to announce his departure.

Randy's final show with I Declare War will be this Tuesday, June 23rd at the Viaduct with Suicide Silence

It's a really hard thing for all of us to deal with as he will be moving back to his hometown in Iowa to be closer with his family.  It was a tough decision for him and while it's going to be difficult on his part as well as ours, we know this is going to be a good thing for him.  We support him completely in his decision and have absolutely no hard feelings.  We are going to miss him terribly.

We've had a ton of great times in the band with him and have countless memories of good times and ridiculous stories to tell.  Even if you weren't planning on attending the show, please try to make it out to give him a memorable send off.  He loved this band a ton and will miss everyone around here.

Leave some love for him on this blog!!

Randy, we love you with all of our hearts and truly wish you the best of luck and happiness back in Iowa.  It kills us to see you go.

Evan, Jon, Brent, Chris (Jake too!)

Before anyone asks, we've already got a lead on a new drummer.  In the event it doesn't work out we will post info on how to try out, but as for right now we are not taking any auditions.

It is with great sadness amongst IDW that I bring the news that Jake will no longer be a part of the band.  After founding the band and spending three years helping the band get on its feet, Jake has moved back home to Idaho to pursue his career in audio engineering.  Jake was recently on tour with Equal Vision artists Pierce the Veil as Front of House/TM and will be continuing touring with them as well as other bands in the future.

We can't express how excited and happy for him we are, but we also can't express how much we will truly miss him.  We have had some incredible shows and many unforgettable experiences together.  We support him in his decision and honestly wish him more success than anyone; he really deserves it.  Hopefully one day we'll be lucky enough to be touring with him.

Jake will be on tour in January/February with
Funeral For a Friend, Emarosa and The Sleeping followed by the Taste of Chaos tour in February/March with Thursday, Bring Me The Horizon, and Pierce the Veil.  If you make it to any of these shows, look out for him and give him a giant hug for starting this band giving us a chance to be a part of it.

We love you Jake.  You mean more to us than you'll ever know.

Evan, Jon, Randy, Brent

As far as filling his position on guitar, as many of you could have already guessed, our fill-in Chris will more than likely be taking over full time.  We're excited to be bringing him into the fold at such an exciting time for us, so please make sure to give him support and make him feel welcome.

There is much to talk about in the IDW world, so I figured I'd give everyone an update to keep all of you up to speed.

First, we're happy to announce we have a new bass player!  We want to thank everyone who expressed interest in trying out and talking with us.  Our long-time friend Brent Eaton, who also plays in ZeroYear and Open Fire, has stepped up to the plate and will be joining I Declare War as a full-time member.  He has been practicing with us for the past couple of weeks and played a house show with us in Shelton on Saturday.  His first official show will be next week at Studio Seven, so be sure you come out to see the new face of the band!

Next, if you haven't figured it out yet, we're writing for our next CD!  We currently have one song complete, which many of you heard at the Himsa & Whitechapel shows, and a bunch of others on their way.  We will be recording two new demos hopefully by the end of the month to send out to labels to release our next CD.  Our contract ended with Compton Records ended in June and we have been in contact with other labels since then.  We will post one of the new demos sometime in October.

As for Compton Records, we still have merch and CDs to sell.  We are extremely excited to annouce that Compton Records now has scored some new distribution...let the shit-talking begin!  Amidst The Bloodshed will soon be available in 10 different Washington Hot Topic locations.  This is where we need your help.  If our CD sells well, they will start to sell our merch.  If our merch sells well we will be distributed to all Hot Topic stores across the nation.  This is a huge opportunity for us and regardless whether you agree with it or not, distribution is something every band needs if they want to make it.

Finally, we still need your help in picking up some merch from our online store.  The benefit shirts sold very well and helped out a bunch, but we ended up needing even more repairs on the van and spent $600 more on it over the past few weeks.  Anything you buy helps us get out of debt but it also helps spread the word, so please do us a favor and grab a shirt or two if you are able to.

Our first tour of the East Coast was definitely a success. Even though we had trouble with the van on the way out there and there were of course a few bad shows here and there, it was an incredible experience. We couldn't have asked for a more amazing group of people to share the stage with night after night (not to mention the same van for two weeks!).

Cholera + IDW Forever

Thank you Andy, Bill, Jason, Matt, and Tad.

We were very fortunate to make a lot of other great friends along the way, as well as strengthen some relationships we already had. Make sure you check out every one of these bands; they are all amazing and deserve your support:

THANK YOU:

As Blood Runs Black
A Different Breed Of Killer
Confined To The Shadows

Six To The Chest

If I forgot your band I apologize! Send us a message and I'll add your link to the list.

A huge thank you also goes out to Chris Fugate for filling in on guitar. Without him we wouldn't have been able to show those unfamilar with us what we're really like. He really went above and beyond the call of duty and provided everything we needed and more. He is an amazing person and a true friend to us all. Give him a high five the next time you see him at a show!

I DECLARE WAR
Amidst the Bloodshed
(Compton)
8
GORY GRIND DEBUT:  If the slasher film genre has a musical cousin, those kin, such as the iconic Cannibal Corpse for example, have a new relative to join the family reunion.  I Declare War may be a fresh name for seekers of the sonic sleeze found so frenzied in gory grindcore, but this is a band to watch out for.  The liner art is profound and very honest in advertising; brutal and bloody music is exactly what to expect from Amidst the Bloodshed.  As the first act signed to North Carolina's Compton Records, I Declare War is sure to turn some heads, possibly putting the label on the map as well.  If playing this album doesn't give the listener nightmares, the secondhand recipients down the street surely will with all the horrified phone calls.  Not without some flaws,
Amidst the Bloodshed still manages to garner deserved credit for going beyond the quick and easy shock element.  Musically speaking, the band seems to have it together.  The production quality isn't stellar, but the band's ability to hold down a consistently interesting composition makes up for some of that.  From the title track to the closing "NWORB YDOC," the Seattle based quintet uses the art of demonic vocals, thrashy guitar riffs, and ferociously deep rhythm section to rally and reap more than souls alone.

Death Doom Productions review:

Compton Records sent me two of their releases, I Declare War "Amidst the Bloodshed" album and the Beyond Fatal "Universal Diabolical" EP.

"Amidst The Bloodshed" displays all the characteristics of a truly brutal and powerful band, filled with hate, vitriol and animosity, as well as being very technically gifted. I found that a lot of I Declare War's plays on this album to be slow, grinding and deeply methodical, with sinister raw vocals and riff-age that could kill! The album is a clear statement of intent, as all first releases with a new label should be. From start to finish "Amidst the Bloodshed" is a skull crushing show of aggression laced with vengeance and solid disdain for all around them.

"Universal Diabolical" is a six track EP similar in style to the "Amidst the Bloodshed" album. It is calculating, methodical and venomous. If spite could be put into musical form then this EP would be right up there with the best. When the vocals are not thundering out demonic chants, the guitars are interlocked in intricate and deadly riff-age.

From start to finish, both of these releases scream quality and dark leanings. Both are fully enjoyable and well worth getting your hands on.

Amidst the Bloodshed

After a few listens I finally started to understand the work of Seattle based quintet, I Declare War. The band has in a short period of time managed to make a name for themselves, this superbly crafted album no doubt helping springboard them to more attention. Think Barnes-era Cannibal Corpse and The Red Chord vocals mixed with grindcore (take your pick) and the stop'n'start chug breakdowns of most hardcore bands. A unique option to digest, huh? That's the secret here. Amongst the violent and bloody intense death'n'grind maneuvers, there truly is a direct drive of intensity steering this maniacal machine, and I like it. Choice cut: "Now You're Going To Be Famous."
