Remember when you were a kid and your mom would take you to the grocery store and you would pick out your ceral based on what toy was on in the box? that's right... IN THE BOX. but now for the last several years childhood dreams have been devastated when they find out that just because the picture of a toy is ON a box doesn't necessarily mean that the toy is IN the box. all this work work work is involved now, buy several boxes of cereal, cut off the bar codes, invest in ever-esculating postage to mail the UPC's in only to find out that the last collectable Flintstone's watch was given to the unappreciative kid before you. but there is hope friends.... this morning as I was eating my Cinnamon Toast Cruch ® I saw some Speed Racer toy cars depicted on the back of the box, and then read that the cars were actually IN specially marked boxes! My natural instinct was to think, this is a trick, "specially marked box" means 1 box out of 5,322,001 and you have to win a contest or something like that. Still, I immediately lifted the bag of cereal out of the box and there it was... my very own, little, red Speed Racer Car. I am a winner today! General Mills and Cinnamon Toast Crunch ®, I Salute you. ps. this is my 300th blog

I spent my Memorial Day by exploring a few new places in Nashville, first I went to Nashville Used Music and play through a Peavy Delta Blues (it was nice but the 15" speaker was little big for me, I think i'm shooting for 12" maybe, tube power though, good stuff) and I played through one of those little red epiphone heads through a giant 4x12 cabinet. To be such a tiny head it sounded really good. and it was priced well, i was really tempted to get it, but it's not exactly what i need, it's valve and only has a volume control, no tone selection or anything, not that I'd need to fine tune much, it sounded pretty hot. oh temptation...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
While I was driving to the music store, I saw a couple thrift stores, so I decided to hit those on my way back. The first was alright, I just don't need any more t-shirts, I really don't need anything for that matter. The second, Music City Thrift, had some good stuff, but was a little pricey for me (i'm currently extra-tight, and I'm not talking about my abs), but then I learned that everything was half off for the holiday! I saw a pretty neat scarf, but didn't get it, and I brought a big illustrated book on sign language to the cash register, but ended up sitting it down (I need to read all the books I already have), I finally decide on a super worn out 70's v-neck kind of thing, it's super thin and has some holes, but it's rad. It's navy with orange stripes on the sleeves and some tan piping around the neck. The v is really low, so get ready for some extra man-cleave ;)
I went to one used record store after that and put up a flier, they had a pretty good selection, but used CD's were still $8 and I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much. They had a nice anime selection too (I used to be a nerd), they had dvd's for $8 that I would've paid $30 to import back in the day (when I still lived with my parents). The highlight of the store: Ludacris on vinyl.
There was one more place I wanted to go (i ruled out visiting American Apparel, because window shopping just depresses me these days), Mckay used books/movies/cds. Oh my goodness! this place is huge, and has much better of a selection than I really expected. I finally dropped the ball and made a purchase. 4 CD's (Deas Veil, Emily Haines and The Soft Skeletons, At the Drive-in, and Semisonic [not the "Closing Time" album, I've already got that one]), 1 book- something about dirty phrases in Spanish, and 1 movie- Transformers The Movie on VHS (the 80's cartoon one, sorry Shia) for a grand total of $22
I wish that I would've brought some of my old dvd's to town, because i'm sure not watching them, but I really didn't expect this good of a selection on used merchandise, a perk of the big city I guess.
I like purchasing used cd's/dvd's/etc. Not only am I saving money, in a way I feel like I'm recycling too.
Share and be thrifty. The economy needs us.
