Radio Bums! XM 66 Raw! Denver Nuggets! Represent! OK, normally I don't refer to myself in the third person :) but it was a little easier to cut-n-paste my bio from my website than type all that stuff over again...Here it goes:
DJ Bedz a.k.a. Cassidy Bednark was born in Boulder, Colorado. Thanks to parents that carried the ideals of the 1960s, Bedz had the fortune to be exposed to liberal thinking and open mindedness at a very early age . DJ Bedzs very first encounter with rap music came when his mother bought him a copy of King of Rock by Run-DMC in 1984. Soon after, Bedz developed a fascination with rap music and the politics of race. He was inspired to seek out a less homogenous environment than the mostly middle-upper class, Caucasian surroundings of Boulder.
After graduating high school, Bedz matriculated to Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. Occidental was, and continues to be, one of the finest private colleges in the country. Most importantly however, Occidental specializes in multicultural studies while maintaining one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. While at school, Bedz was able to study the dynamics of sex, class, and race while majoring in Music Composition and serving as a Residence Advisor for the multicultural dorm on campus. College was also when DJ Bedz first tried his hand at deejaying after getting turntables as a Christmas present. Soon after, Bedz was doing house parties and Greek events at Occidental, UCLA, USC, and Marymount College. With his Bachelors Degree in Music Composition, DJ Bedz moved back to Colorado in 1998.
Once DJ Bedz started taking deejaying seriously, he picked up the stage name The White Shadow. The original White Shadow is a 1980s television series about an out-of-place white basketball coach working with a mostly black high school team. Bedz thought The White Shadow was a good name because it encompasses the white attributes of his life along with the shadow of what is less apparent on the surface. Bedz believes strongly that being white, just like most issues of race, is something that needs to be open and discussed rather than pretending that it is not a factor in the way he is perceived. In Bedz mind, it is crucial for people to deal consciously with their prejudices in order to make real progress. Part of the appeal in the name White Shadow is that it is seemingly a contradiction. The blatant contrast between white and shadow is basically the same as the inconsistency: Hip-Hop Caucasian. Therefore, DJ Bedz himself takes pride in being unique in that aspect.
Currently, DJ Bedz is working the club scene, handling radio mixing responsibilities at 107.1 One FM/Denver, 96.1 FM The Beat/Colorado Springs, and Raw 66/XM Satellite Radio, residing as the team DJ of the Denver Nuggets and All-Star DJ for the NBA, and promoting his nationally distributed mix CDs. Bedz has worked in the past for the nationally syndicated radio mix company ZeoMix, where his "Old School Mini Mix" and "Urban Mini Mix" where his mixes were heard in over 25 markets across the United States. DJ Bedz is entering his 5th full year as the official DJ for the NBA's Denver Nuggets, and has been hired three times by the NBA to work the All-Star Game festivities as well. In February of 2005, DJ Bedz was the featured guest DJ on an episode of "Rap City" on BET making the first ever DJ from Colorado to appear on that show. During that same week, Bedz was employed by the NBA to work the Club NBA stage of the NBA's Jam Session as well as spinning the NBA Celebrity Game on EPSN. In the summer of 2005, DJ Bedz finished as one of the top 6 mixers in the entire country for a Mixshow Power Summit contest to land a spot on Superadio's Baka Boyz program. As the number of his Mix CDs approaches 50, Bedz has surpassed the 100,000 units mark thus cementing his status as the "Mix Tape King of Colorado". On 5/1/06 DJ Bedz had 2 of his mix CDs (The Anthem & I've Been Waiting On You) featured on MTV's "Mixtape Monday", and on 7/31/06 MTV featured his Ice Cube CDs on the same program. More recently his "Old School Party To Go Vol. 2", "Capone Carmelo Kustomz Vol. 2", "Mile High Shadyville", and "Concentrate" CDs have also appeared on the show. DJ Bedz is the Denver representative of Whoo Kid's exclusive Shadyville DJ Team - a distinction that included guest appearances on Shady 45's G-Unit Radio program on Sirius Satellite Radio. In Feburary 2008 moved on to XM Satellite Radio Channel 66 Raw, where his "White Shaodw Radio" show airs every Friday nights at 9PM EST. Last but not least, Bedz added to his Denver radio resume in 2008, joining 107.1 One FM. The DJ Bedz Quick-Mixes can be heard all throughout the day 7 days a week, and his "White Shadow Radio Show" broadcasts every Sunday night from 9PM-11PM. White Shadow Radio is syndicated in Colorado Springs on 96.1 FM The Beat on Saturdays from 8PM-10PM. DJ Bedz is also a proud member of the Denver-based Radio Bums Crew, a group of DJs that has had a stranglehold on urban music in Colorado for close to 10 years. As the music and culture of hip-hop continue to grow and expand, large cites such as Denver stand poised to establish an identity and make contributions to the urban music community. Talented, hardworking, and professional artists like DJ Bedz will no doubt help to carry the torch for Denver in years to come.

UNSIGNED RAPPERS, READ THIS BEFORE WRITING ME!!!
IF YOU ARE AN INDEPENDENT RAPPER/ARTIST/GROUP/PROMOTER PLEASE READ THIS PARAGRAPH! IT'S GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE I'M GETTING 10-15 "PLEASE LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK" E-MAILS A DAY. AS MUCH AS I FEEL THE PLIGHT OF THE UNSIGNED RAPPER I JUST CAN'T REPLY TO ANYMORE MESSAGES OR LISTEN TO ANYMORE MUSIC AND STILL HAVE TIME FOR MYSELF. YOU ARE ALWAYS MORE THAN WELCOME TO SUBMIT MP3'S TO DJBEDZ@GMAIL.COM. I CAN'T PROMISE ANYTHING, BUT I DO LISTEN TO EVERYTHING SENT TO ME EVERY COUPLE WEEKS. IF YOU ARE FROM COLORADO, HIT UP CHONZ (DJCHONZ@RADIOBUMS.NET) WITH PRESS PACKETS AND CLEAN VERSIONS OF YOUR MATERIAL BECAUSE HE FEATURES LOCAL TALENT ON HIS SUNDAY NIGHT SHOW.
IF YOU ARE TRYING TO GET A TRACK ON A MIX CD, HERE'S THE WAY IT WORKS - FIRST AND FOREMOST, SEND ME THE MUSIC TO THE E-MAIL LISTED ABOVE. AFTER I CHECK IT OUT AND GIVE IT THE GO-AHEAD WE WILL WORK OUT A DEAL WHERE YOU WILL BUY A MINIMUM OF 100 CDs FROM ME FOR A LOW BULK RATE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE SONG APPEARING ON THE MIX CD. I'M NOT LOOKING TO GET RICH OFF ANYONE, I SIMPLY WANT TO WEED OUT THE ARTISTS WHO WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING AND AREN'T WILLING TO INVEST TIME OR EFFORT IN THEIR MUSIC. IF YOUR GRIND IS STRONG YOU CAN EASILY FLIP THAT 100 CDS FOR A NICE LITTLE PROFIT, PLUS ON TOP OF THAT YOU'LL KNOW YOUR MUSIC IS GAINING CIRCULATION/EXPOSURE. IT'S A WIN-WIN, BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK. I'M GETTING TOO OLD FOR CHARITY, BUT TO ME THIS DEAL IS PERFECTLY FAIR AND IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T DOUBT THEIR OWN ABILITY TO HUSTLE THEIR ASS OFF SELLING CDS (PLUS, IF YOUR MUSIC IS A DOPE AS YOU ALL TELL ME IT IS, IT SHOULD BE AN EASY SALE RIGHT?). HIT ME WITH AN E-MAIL AND I'LL GIVE YOU AN EXACT RATE ON THAT DEAL. THANKS!
I'VE ALSO BEEN GETTING QUITE A FEW MORE DROP & MIXTAPE HOSTING REQUESTS LATELY. I'M MORE THAN HAPPY TO ACCOMMODATE YOU FREE OF CHARGE, BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT EASY FOR ME. WRITE A SCRIPT OF EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT ME TO SAY AND TELL ME WHERE I CAN SEND THE MP3 TO. PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO "JUST DO WHATEVER YOU THINK SOUNDS GOOD". IT'S HARD TO TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY UNLESS YOU CAN FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND SPEND THE TIME REQUIRED TO TYPE OUT AN EXACT SCRIPT...
NOW BACK TO THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM...

Just thought I'd add a little bit of personal info as well. As much as I like promoting "DJ Bedz" all the time it's nice to occasionally just be Cassidy...I grew up in a small family, just myself and my sister along with my parents. My parents divorced when I was in my younger 20's, but they have maintained a good relationship throughout. Now both my parents have found new situations and I think they've both found a new type of happiness in their own unique way - and that's a beautiful thing. My Dad lives in Parker now a days where he practices real estate and organizes youth basketball leagues for the non-profit organization Colorado Sports Authority. My mother now lives in Idaho, I think in part because it reminds her of the way Boulder used to be when we were growing up. She spends her time working for a private high school and donates her time at battered women's shelters as well. My sister Cameron lives with her boyfriend here in Denver. She's currently working at Blondie's salon in Cherry Creek (5th and Detroit), hit her up if you need to look good. My sister is my best friend, we have a great relationship. It's hard to explain our connection but it's been there ever since she was born and we've always gotten along and been tight like that...
As for my romantic life, I'm single. It has its advantages as well as its drawbacks, but overall I'm pretty happy. I wouldn't mind having a girlfriend, but I'd be the first to admit that I'm a lot to put up with. I'm really consumed with my work and doing this DJ thing to it's full potential, so I sometimes I have a problem making time for things other than my music. My most successful relationships have been with women that are extremely independent with jobs, goals, and ambitions of their own. In that same vain, the women I am really drawn to are always well-read, possess intellectual curiosity, and are strong minded with opinions on life, sociology, politics, religion, art, etc. My problem is that I don't work in a library, I work in nightclubs, and let's just say that the bar/club scene isn't exactly swimming with National Merit Scholars. I meet my share of attractive women, but that aspect is only one element of a more complex puzzle. The older I get, my propensity for putting up with the stupid pretty girl has diminished. I know that sounds harsh, but I guess my temperament has shifted more toward looking at personality and emotional/spiritual compatibility recently. Another thing I cant do without is a sense of humor. I love dry, sarcastic, wry, witty women who dont take themselves too seriously. Being smart without being pretentious is a fine line to walk, but it's a must. Anyway, I feel like Im rambling on and on, but its probably obvious at this point why Im still single. I would never pass judgment on anyone because each person you meet in this life has their own set of amazing qualities, but at the same time I cant imagine my soul mate being anything less than the complete package.
As for what I do for fun in my spare time, that's kind of a tricky question to answer because what I do for fun and what I do for a job are actually the same thing. I'm lucky enough to be in the small minority of the population that wouldn't trade in my job for anything, so even if it were not my livelihood I'd still make music a huge part of my life because that is what I am passionate about. I do occasionally take time to read a book or watch a movie, but like I said I tend to get my fix in my day-to-day life. My pet peeves are people who live life without pashion and humility, those who take things for granted, DJs with inflated egos without the skills to match, and people who have no respect for the richness of hip-hop culture...
