Zombies versus Family, love vs. reason, song versus suckas.......................... Current mood: accomplished Category: Life
Hiphop, breaks, and experimenting with music is my life. I have spent many, way too many happy hours producing sound and composing with my soul. I have acquired more than 5,000 solid pieces of vinyl in decent condition over the past twenty years. I have written at least 3,000 songs. I have fought countless emotional and psycho-spectral battles within myself. I have fought the ideologies and ignorance and uncivilized or unreasonable attitudes of the egotistical rapper and DJ whom will sometimes back up the "talk" with "swift" skill, and finagle a status in Hiphop. Most of the time, I think people are just preying on a come up, Not praying on a come up. There is a difference in the spelling and therefore in the meaning, Wishing or working, winning or giving, having or tricking.
People glorify Violence, people glorify themselves, people glorify all kinds of primitive and pseudo-meaningful things. Maybe music should not be cherished to such a degree; or maybe self is less important. Some minds believe that it is their responsibility to help the world convert or assimilate to their religious or on the other side of a similar or the same token we find the politics.
Family has supported me when all else has fallen through, things like money, women, and friends, can be lost or misunderstood, misconstrued and used to a pontless degree - it seems to me. And I say this from experience, not just because I've been burned, used, and otherwise played like a naive and helpful human in the past. I don't care if I am given credit for my good deeds or have my mistakes, jokes, and failures used against me for the emotional gain of broke and broken cohorts, compe-titians, or clueless ego-titans.
I know whats important, I remember where I've been, and who I've dealt with and If we're on the same team then so be it... If your not then it's your loss and I wish those folks the best.
Family is most important and I have mine, although, when I was out-here trying to help the needy, homies, and suckas, and trying to figure out my angle on the globe... I was humble, I stayed true, and I kept my mouth shut, when peace was not an option; and fought my wars internally. Now, It's all out love and war, no naive values, or idealist ploys. Some will never "get me", others will help destroy me - "so-be-it" moafuka$ . . . . . ........ . . . . . .. .. ..
I wish for peace, but minds love proving points and living in denial so lets forget that.
It's all about my music, my soul, and my family, and cast out those who live like green, white, or yellow Zombies ( figure that one out you college fellaz) : )

(STILL IN PRGRES$)
The Art of Being Real (Is Hip Hop all of that?) What is real, is it facts, is it a state of mind, is it going out of ones way to acheive goals? What is reality! Maybe it's a culmination of all the perceived truths about a person or a style of music, weather they are possitive or negative. Such is the state of Hip-Hop today. Thirty years after it's humble and original beginings the elemnts of rap have come back to haunt those who belive in "Real Hip-Hop". As Hip Hop music spread through out the world, the many influences that we're the pre-cursors or the grandfathers of Soul, R&B, Funk, World Music, Jazz, Rock, Roots, Salsa or Tropical (Tito Puente played on the intro to Sugarhill Gangs classic!) are now taking from rappers. RnB, dancehall, regeton, and other styles have now taken Rap as an element, and all "elements of Hip Hop culture" enbody todays commercially viable "hits".
Today people have somwhat, heated discussions on what Hip-Hop is! Is Hip Hop all of that? Lets Clarify, is Hip Hop also RNB, DNB, Electro, Gangsta, or is there still "Pure Hip Hop"? If you have heard lots of early rap, such as Grandmaster Melle Melle, Curtis Blow, and others on labels such as Sugarhill Records, Tommy Boy Records, Profile Records and the entire spectrum of late seventies and eighties Hip Hop/Rap you can relate. There we're mostly songs performed by with in-studio bands in the early days: then drum-machines became extremely popular, theni n the mid to late eighties samplers became the "weapon" of choice. Mantronix was rockin' them samples in nineteen eighty four and before sampling - cuts and stabs on turntables, and turntabele loops or repeats we're doing the gig.
Now days, sampling is forbidden by the commercial industry; although, would albums like "Licence to Ill" by the Beastie Boys exist? - No! Not without the times when sampling almost did away with the most imortant element of this music - the disc Jockey, the D.J. now "the deejay" (LOL).Then I say it's ovious that Hip hop has matured and improved yet at times temporarily lost some of it's fundamental and most important guides or sources, beleifs and elements. To be replaced by or blended with things that seem trendy or detrimental to the early, and later the uncompromising conciousness of "positive Hip-Hop". Then again, we as artists, fans and contributors to this culture feel a responsibility to try and retain those original concepts, yet have a need to fit into this new and ever changing society of Hip Hop to try and re-gain or help maintain "the integrity".
Children are born with out a state of mind or concious beleifs then mostly through experience and education they form complex networks and "ideological satelites". Some orbit around in the popular culture others are passed down by a big brother or family member. And some will be by found in this Hip Hop music that sometimes poisons or tests or inspires and enriches their ideas and values with "the whole experience of Hip Hop"
To be continued homies............

Wednesday, April 6th, 2005 Those who carry the torch. Many Hip-Hop artists are not real Hip-Hop, they can be concidered rappers, and for the softer ones they could be concidered Lyricists and the like. I beleive that for true Hip-Hop status it's a bout a true intellectual contribution such a true personal experience or deeply educated conciousness with a very personalized delivery, with subtle afflection. Not just some "autistic" fool rambling fast, preaching, screaming about peace, or on the other extreme quickly killing fools on wax. Check me at HARDLINERZ.COM
