Hey, guess what we found when we were digging through our closet? A reunion show! That's right, one last show for all you dancing fun people. May 30th we are playing in the Geronimo festival at Artmosphere. So bring good times and a spare ass, cause your gonna dance yours off. Don't worry, we'll keep reminding you.

Bad News
So the bad news is we are in fact ending the adventure. The voyage is over soon. The PowerBoxx will be making two last stops to end this year out with you all:
Sunday, November 25th at the Renaissance. w/ That One Guy 9pm
This is our last show at the Renaissance, which had indeed been our home away from home. Judd has always been awesome about hosting our shows and we all remember so many nights looking out at your smiley-dancey faces.
Friday, December 28th at the Blue Moon Saloon. w/ Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys 9pm-ish
This is our farewell show. It will be an honor and a pleasure to share the stage with Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, as it will be an honor and a pleasure to play for you all one last time. The stage promises a dancing good time, just remember to dress in layers so you can take them off when the dancing heats you up.
We're working on a little special treat for you; we will be working up every song we've ever written. We want to go out with a bang, so we hope to give you all a show full of all of your favorite songs.
As a special note, we will also be revealing a NEW MattRock & the PowerBoxx song. The last new song, for our last show.
Good News The good news is that after a year and a half, and three different studios, and a lot of broken strings and strained vocal chords, and gallons and gallons of whiskey, we have finally finished recording our second album. Right now we are calling it "Short Men in Full Dress", and if we get them back from the press in time, they will be available to purchase at the Blue Moon show. This, we are very excited about, and hope you are too.
It has been a great three-and-a-half year run playing for and with you all. We will miss you.
Thank you for the great times, -PB

So let's answer some questions while we're at it.
Show dates in the future: Sept. 20th, @ Renaissance ***Oct. 3rd @ 307 Downtown*** Oct. 30th @ Renaissance Nov. 25th @ Renaissance (w/That One Guy!!!)
The entity known as PowerBoxx is constantly mutating; one of our singing/dancing/all round entertaining parts has split off to go have babies in Baton Rouge, we love you, Drew.
We will have different songs up here for you in the near future, so keep your ears open and your hearts warm.
Hope to see you all soon in ass-shakin' good time mode! -PB

Well, over a year... Nonetheless (that's right, one word and we don't care) here is a quick update for all of you:
We do have shows coming up. We are playing with Liquidrone and That One Guy soon... look for us at Renaissance in the next couple of months for these shows.
We are recording another album with all of these new songs we've been playing. It'll be another 10 or 11 songs for your listening enjoyment. Jay Burton has been working with us and is likewise very interested in putting out the best possible sound for you, which is why it is taking so long. We were hoping to put it out this summer, but the way things have worked out, we are now optomistic about a December release of our new album.
We have a new bass player. James Gentry has moved on to bigger and different things, so we now have a brand new bass player, none other than Mr. Jay Burton himself. He's only practiced with us a couple times and with all the people on vacations to naked-land and Europe we haven't been playing a lot this summer, but it will be on during the fall.
We did promise some videos last year - and we did some shooting - but that hasn't worked out the way we thought it would, so all of that is now on hold for the near future. So for those of you looking for video content, here is a video of a puppy being rescued from a sewer:

We will be playing at 307 on Wed. July 26, with Screams of Triumph and that will be our last show for some time. On our plate for August is to finish recording the videos for the Salmon Vs. Sturgeon EP, we have a few brand new songs we're working on, the multi-talented Danny Devillier has joined us on guitar and we're enjoying the new sound he's bringing us, and we also need to get our bearings for the new semester of school. Hopefully in all this we'll have the time and energy to record a new full-length album.
We love you all and can't wait to come back to playing shows after our short break.

So we just shot our second video. The first is the video for 'Girlfriend' that Jennalee made for us when she was in London. If you haven't seen it yet, it is on the official website; www.pbjams.com, and it also plays on AOC occasionally. This new video is for 'Unfinished Business' on the Salmon Vs. Sturgeon EP coming out this summer. Our friend Paige Pemberton directed and shot it for us. We put up some pictures from the shoot; Gwen documented the event for us. We also want to thank Justin and Lacey for starring in it and riding bikes downtown all day for us. This video and two more will all be coming this summer, so we'll let you know when they're done and how you can see them.
Now it's time for a nap.

Thanks for everyone who came out to the benefit show last night! Our friends in Cattlehead took some fun pictures; Someone missed the choreography rehearsal, three guesses... MR would say that it looks like much fancier guitar work than it is... Looks like the camera was suffering from too much fun. Allright, I'll be honest, Ween has never been one of my favorite bands. Don't get me wrong, I am totally in awe and bow down to thier supremecy as musicians, but for me it is usually content or message and a presentation that works to bring that out. For me,Ween has never been much more than kid humor with really awesome and creative music surrounding it. I used to feel the same way about TMBG, but then I really listened and found this to be exactly the opposite. But as far as Ween goes, I like them, I just don't love them. The Rest of the Band, however, are Gigantinormus Ween fans. Dallas has flown to New York for one day just to see them. Between he and Drew they probably have everything Ween has ever put out in duplicate and on many formats. Brandon and Dallas were really the ones who chose this as a cover for us in the early days, so as far as insight goes, mine, for this song, is pretty limeted. The Reason I like this song though is mostly because of the epic feel and especially the power behind the song when all of the instruments drop out and it's just voice. I especially like that every one in the band is singing both on and off key, creating this giant weird voice. Audiences really love the song as well, and usually join in with the last chorus, and that's always really fun, too. -MR

Violent Femmes was probably the first band I was truly inspired by. Back when I was in highschool, before I really started to write material, I used to play all Violent Femmes sets to my buddies (usually with the help of my long time friend and current bass player, James). I think I played the songs so frequently that my friends would tell me they had heard the Femmes version, but felt there was something wrong because it didn't sound just the way it did when I would play them. David Byrne gets a lot of credit for influencing my songs, and the band's music, but truth be told, If you could test music like you do pool water, you would probably find at least 40% Violent Femmes in the mixture. "Prove my love" has always been one of my favorites. It is in the classic Femmes style of pessimistic optimism. Gordon Gano(Femmes lead singer/songwriter) is great at putting himself in the desperate love loser position. This is why I first, and I guess continue to identify with him. It's all about Optimism despite great and numerous disapointments andpredicted failures.

"She's an Angel" by They Might Be Giants has always been one of my all time favorite love songs. It speaks of romance at the initial infatuation stages, that head over heels googly stuff that only comes around every once and a while and even then is usually fleeting. And it is narrated in just that naive way that you feel as you go through it. Masterful. As grim a picture as that last statement paints, I still like that stage. I used to play this song when I was doing the solo gigs as well, but I would usually play it really fast the whole way through and with a super staeady beat. It transfered better to the acoustic guitar / singer set up. Or so I believe(d). We do it much more in the spirit of TMBG's live performances. I like both ways. I hope you guys like this way. Feel it. -MR
