On Friday the 16th, with Nouvelle Vague at the Roundhouse. I think it’s sold out by now, but - it’s worth cheking if there are some tickets left somewhere… or may be some of your friends have tickets already...? ;)

And then I will be back on the road, so here are the further dates for the tour :

28 Oct 2009 20:00
RKC Vevey, CH

29 Oct 2009 20:00

Hello!

Finding a little time to update you on what's been going on... I've been playing and travelling a lot the past few weeks so it's been quite difficult to keep up with the blog but I guess compared to the past YEARS i'm not doing too bad... :)

This month is the release of the new album from Nouvelle Vague, called "3", which I'm featured on. I must say I am really excited about being on this record. I have followed Nouvelle Vague for a while now and always really liked what their work. http://www.myspace.com/nouvellevague

I met Marc, the producer of the project, after a NV show in London I guess about 2 years ago. So we stayed in touch and got to meet in his studio one day, recording about 3 or 4 tracks at once.. It was a great experience. It's very interesting for me to JUST SING. Since I didn't do any arrangement on the tunes (apart from one track that is not on NV3), and of course because it's all covers, there is no writing. It makes the process very quick and spontaneous, which I loved.

I'm not sure what the tracklist is in your country, but I did record "Say Hello Goodbye" from Softcell and "Such a Shame" from Talk Talk (and a few other ones which you will probably not hear anytime soon! lol) . I think "Such a Shame" is now a bonus track on the French print... I've done a little home made video for it.. I love the piano arrangement (which was originally made by M. Collin) so I really wanted to play it myself :)
Here it is...

Hope you enjoyed it ;)
Will write soon for more exciting things of this world...
I need to write about this tv show I did tonight "Si La Soul", in Paris... But before that, I've got to get some sleep and do some more travelling tomorrow.....
muchluv+goodnight

A few weeks ago a very good friend, quite concerned about the weight of the purse I have to carry everyday (and probably quite concerned about the complaining, too), offered me an ipod shuffle... you know, this little mp3 player that contains about 250 songs... and that is VERY light...? Well. I always thought it was a cool idea but I don't think I would have ever bought it myself. BUT now that I'm using it I'm really enjoying it ;).. Now, for those who don't know - there is a function called "random pick" or something, which hm... randomly picks (yeah!) some tunes on your computer to put them on the ipod... (I have quite a large library since i transfered pretty much all the records I've ever had - even the 'obscure' stuff, which you can't remember WHY you bought it in the first place... "what boyfriend actually got me into that music??") which means that, when you listen, 1-you never know what to expect 2- you cannot actually see who's performing and what the song is, because the ipod shuffle is too small and light to have that function (i guess?). So you find yourself with a mix of your favorite music, along with tracks like album tracks or compilation stuff you never knew about. Or you forgot about. On purpose.
In other words, a great blind test. FUN. Very entertaining in the tube.

I did that first random pick last weekend... Not all the tunes I actually enjoyed.. But some of them really caught my ear, either because I knew them and loved them already, either because they just touched me... :)
So here is "A (short)list of the tunes that caught my ear in my ipod shuffle" - in no particular, 'shuffle' order...

Prince – Get Off
Ray Charles – Heartbreaker

Star Band – Thiely
Nicola Conte – Jet Sound
The Ones – Flawless
Justin Timberlake Feat. Bubba Sparxxx - Right for Me
Stevie Wonder – I Believe (When I Fall in Love it Will Be Forever) – possibly my fav of this playlist…
Electrique Feat. Solex – Train Grande Vitess – Ok. The weirdest thing on this playlist…I actually don't like to listen to it that much, but worth checking out. weiiiird (fyi - the sample used is the french railway system sound ID)...

So, last week, I was very privilleged to be invited by a friend to the Black Ball UK held in London, a yearly event organized by Keep A Child Alive.
For those who don't know, Keep A Child Alive is an organization that is originally founded by 'Artists Against AIDS Worldwide' creator, Leigh Blake who teamed up with Alicia Keys to develop this admirable initiative - providing AIDS medicine and support to people in Africa
.

After a couple of introductive passionate speeches from Leigh and Alicia about the situation in Africa and the achivements of KCA so far, followed an auction (featuring Adele winning a bid for a Stella Vine painting, at 8.000 pounds..) :)
Then the concert started, with Emmanuel Jal opening... Then the Marleys, Stephen, Damien... Got quite impressed by Jennifer Hudson's performance (was not expecting anything less, but it was just the first time I was watching her sing live). What a presence!

Finally Alicia took the stage for a very funky and imperial opening, 'Go Ahead'. Fantastic intro to a show... and to an album indeed!
Not quite sure I remember the order of the set but she then played 'Superwoman', 'No One'.. and invited Adele on Stage to play a couple of songs, including 'Hometown Glory'.

For the finale, Alicia invited Annie Lennox on stage to perform 'Sweet Dreams". Well, first of all I must say I really like this song, but seeing it live by Annie was just something else! And it felt even better seeing her and Alicia sharing the stage, especially in those circumstances, as those two women are both very involved in the charity they support. Touching.

Besides the incredible show of course, this evening really educated me on KCA's mission and how a dollar per day donation could save one day of the life a child in Africa. It was my first time at a charity event; just being there made me very conscious of the horrors that are going on all around the world and how we can possibly help to make a change, fix damages, and prevent from future ones.

That's all for today folks, think about it.

Hello,

Just came back from a mini tour in France, supporting French superstar Christophe Willem... I was playing a short acoustic set with musicians Wendon Davis and Burnin Bobby B. It was the first time we were playing together on stage, and I must say I had a blast and I think we all did, especially having such a great response from the audience. Thanks to everyone who kept in touch, too.
I hope I will be able to post a few videos from the tour soon, as there were great moments I'd like to share with everyone.

It was also great to see Christophe's show, which was quite BIG! and impressive. :) This guy rocks! Really enjoyed it.

I was also playing in Paris last Wednesday at Le Point Ephemere.. I was presenting some new songs from my upcoming album.. Again, thanks to all the people who were there, we had much fun.

So I'm finally back in London for a bit, and actually playing at the Soho Revue Bar next Wednesday 25 at 8 pm. All details are on my page.

See you soon!!
Sophie xx

ps
Also, I should be posting more music soon..

Yes! i'm currently in NYC, back for a few weeks working on my next album. It feels so good to be back here. It's been 2 years since i moved out! I would want to say things changed a little, but it is truly the same fantastic city that i lived in. That's something with ny. you feel at home instantly, no matter how long you were out.

So I'm here to make music, meet producers to work with and... have fun, of course!

More music soon. x
