If you're in Hamilton, you need to come to this gig. If you're not, you need to come to Hamilton to come to this gig. Night of the Freakin Hamiltons is the finale of the 2008 Ignition fringe festival, with a bill of exciting new local bands and Wellington's one-man-dance-party Disasteradio. Doteyes made a big impression at last month's 4th Annual Hamilton Circle Jerk, eliciting comments such as "wow, that totally didn't suck!". Kill The Zodiac, the product of Hamilton's own evil genius Adam Fulton, has raised a lot of attention internationally. This is a rare chance to see KtZ live. The Trons are quite probably your new favourite band. Swamp, Fifi, Ham and Wiggy haven't even played a gig yet and already they've had attention from Wired magazine, Pitchfork, TV's Campbell Live, and UK's illustrious The Guardian. Check out this jam session:

Greetings from Melbourne, Aust. It's 33 degrees in the shade, and probably about twice that at the tram stop in the middle of Nicholson street. Mike Crook played a lovely set at Gertrude's Brown Couch in Fitzroy last night, with absolutely amazing local band Luluc. It was a great night, huge thanks to everyone who played and listened and made the show possible (Luluc, Sing Songs, Gertrude's, Sound Factory, Karl and the other Jerks).

If you're in the neighbourhood, come join us at The Empress Hotel this Saturday afternoon, 4-6pm. Crook will be playing a solo set with Denim Owl. Message me if you want to catch up over a nice cold pot of beer.

I'm so excited. David Mitchell, the crazy one from The 3Ds and Ghostclub, is back in New Zealand with his new project, Evil. And they're playing at Ward Lane in Hamilton this weekend. On Friday the 13th, no less.

This will be an incredibly exciting show. David Mitchell is an amazing performer, visceral and unpredictable. I last saw him opening for Yo La Tengo in 2000 and it was electrifying.

Come along to Ward Lane on Friday night. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to see the now-London-based Mitchell performing in the cosy intimacy of Hamilton's Ward Lane. Yokel Ono and Skeletor are playing in support.

The Hamilton Circle Jerk is done and dusted for another year. Roundup and pics at PJ dot com. I've got just on 3 1/2 weeks left of Gainful Employment left, it's about time I found something else to keep me busy and wired with adrenalin.

I've been thinking Hamilton's indie kids need a social club. Good music, maybe the odd band, and drinking and dancing till stupid o'clock.

Would you come to an indie club night? Would you come regularly if you enjoyed it? If it was on a Thursday night would you be more, or less likely to come than if it was on a Saturday? What about dress-up themes, yes or no? Answers honestly wanted. Let's bring the party to this town.

It's the Third Annual Hamilton Circle Jerk, Hamilton's biggest and best celebration of local music.

From hardcore to hip-hop, rising stars Kimbra and The Deadly Deaths to the infamous Mobile Stud Unit and favourite prodigal sons Yokel Ono. One night, one stage, a dozen local artists all playing short sets of original songs and locally-grown covers. The result is unpredictable, enlightening and often hilarious. This is a unique musical event, not to be missed.

If you're passionate or even curious about Hamilton music, get along to Ward Lane on the 26th of May for what promises to be a fantastic night of musical mayhem. The proceeds of this show will help Contact FM's continued support of local music — twelve months a year.
