I extend an open invite to an art show being held at NYU this friday...

Islam Awareness Week Cultural Canvas: Islam Paints the World



This event celebrates the rich Islamic tradition of artistic expression through multiple forms of visual art. It will highlight the intriguing blend of faith and art and allow artists to demonstrate their proficiency in these fields as well as provide for them an open forum in which to discuss the importance of Muslims emerging in these untraditional careers.

Ok...

Ima get this out of the way quick... this photoshoot was a long time in the making... and a huge pain in my ass by the time we get to actually shooting...

I HATE THE BUSINESS SIDE OF WHAT I DO...

But its a necessary evil... I know what I am worth... YOU know what you think I am worth... but who knows what I am REALLY worth? haha

Either way... rapper Sincere knew I was worth a WHOLE LOTTA PHONE CALLS... haha

(In retrospect I know where hes coming from and what hes dealing with and all that... I know its not my problem... but you know...)

But after a lot of talking and planning and adjusting... In the end... I am very proud of these images... and it turned out to be a great and fairly smooth shoot...

Looking at the images... you guys have no idea what goes into them... you just see the final images... and the important thing is that you are impressed...

I know its been a while... and Ive been thru some things... but...

I AM BACK!!!

I have 5 new blogs to post up and I will be putting them up in the next few weeks...

Here is a quick one... i shot last December? or November? (i dont even remember anymore...)

This is another cover image I did for Illume Magazine...

and I will be 100% honest... i like the images... but i stole the idea... from myself... well... to be more exact... i was forced to steal from myself...

I HATE THAT...

Essentially... this is a remix of an idea I already did for the Loj - No Labels Album Cover... (labels on the face...)

Yes I think it was a great idea... THE FIRST TIME...  but thats what they wanted... so thats what they got...

I tried to change it up a little bit... by adding the twist that the words are made of newspaper article clippings of the words used to describe Muslims in the media...

So here it is...

A few weeks ago quite possibly the worst thing that could have happened to my work… HAPPENED…

While saving some files I was working on, the second hard drive in my computer, you know the one with EVERYTHING on it made some weird noises, and I got a write error…

Hmmm interesting…

I restarted my machine, CLICK CLICK CLICK…WEEEERRRRRR

FAILED TO MOUNT DISK… hmmmm even more interesting…

Restarted again only to have the same thing happen again.

My hard drive died. Completely dead. It doesn't even start up long enough to get my files.

Now if I had backed up my work this wouldn't have been such a big deal. But I didn't.

So I look up a bunch of stuff on the internet, try all my options, and nothing…

I took my drive to Tek Serve in Manhattan give them my credit card information and they try to recover it… NOTHING… they refer me to Drive Savers in California…

This place all but guaranteed they could get back my files, for a cost
$2,400!!!
(UPDATE: I just called to submit my drive, after talking with the rep and taking my information and telling them that I already went to TekServe, DriveSavers took 20% off and I told them I can wait and ill take the slow service that knocked down the price alittle...)

So I hate to do this… but I am asking for help… I honestly can't afford to pay them and I cannot afford to loose all my work. (well just like the last 5 – 7 years worth…) Photos, video files, design work, everything… I have bits and pieces backed up here and there… but nowhere near as enough to get me back on my feet…

Now I have over 7,000 "friends" on myspace alone… and if a fraction of you could give JUST alittle $10 - $20 each… I would reach my goal and recover my work…

SO I ask you to help… I am not asking a lot… but I hope you can open your hearts just a little… PLEASE

NOTES:
• There is PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE - ITS MAKING CLICKING NOISES
• I have tried software solutions... they dont even see the drive
• I have tried taking it to a recovery place in NYC (TEKSERVE) they where able to recover NOTHING
• The Drive is 500GB (ITS HUGE) thats why its costing me so much
• NO I do not have everything backed up
• YES i feel stupid
• Yes I got quoted at about 5 or 6 other companies, none as good as this one... and all almost just as expensive

 UPDATE 1: Thank you soooo much to those who have contributed.. I have raised a small amount of what i set out to get... I never expected some people to give so much... so I THANK YOU...

I haven't sent out the drive yet... because i cant pay for it... so im holding off for a few weeks to raise some more funds before I send it out...

I would like to thank Illume Magazine who has Donated a new hard drive that will serve and the new backup once i get my work back... THANK YOU ILLUME...
