FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Beatnik Jr. Hip-Hops with OutKast and Sleepy Brown at Santa Ana's Galaxy Theatre, July 17

Los Angeles, CA – July 8, 2009  Los Angeles-based experimental rock band, Beatnik Jr., continues to surprise and mystify audiences – in a good way. No two fans will tell you the same thing, when asked to compare the new alternative/electronic rock band to another musical venture. And to further demonstrate their broad and diverse appeal, on July 17, the band will open for hip-hop artists OutKast, and soulful Sleepy Brown.

In the same vein as Atlanta-based OutKast, who carved a unique niche for themselves in the Southern hip-hop universe with their innovative sound and intricate arrangements and lyrics, Beatnik Jr. has built quite the following in the past year, appealing to a varied demographic – from other emerging local and national acts, artists and musicians, to seasoned music industry veterans who hale Beatnik Jr.'s musical talents, feats and nuances.

The July 17 show’s bill also includes soul icon, Sleepy Brown, the man behind the Grammy-winning, multi-platinum success of OutKast and other groups, such as TLC. Sleepy Brown was one of the original members of OutKast, and helped to produce two of the group’s multi-platinum LPs, “Southernplayalisticadillac muzik” and “ATLiens”, and as a result, helped to shape the group’s modern sound that harkens back to its soulful roots.

Beatnik Jr.’s own singular sound has caught the attention of filmmakers, artists and entertainment industry insiders. The band was recently signed on to provide music for the soundtrack of anime/manga giant, TOKYOPOP’s, upcoming independent film production, “Van Von Hunter in Maiden Quest”. Beatnik Jr.’s title song, “Beatnik Jr.”, was chosen for publication in the independent anime documentary, whose worldwide estimated release date is scheduled for late July 2009. Beatnik Jr. then strengthened their stronghold on the independent film world with a recent live performance at “VIGNETTE”, a bi-annual film festival featuring animation, documentary, experimental and narrative shorts by Los Angeles-based independent filmmakers.

“Beatnik Jr.’s music is, itself, experimental and edgy by nature, and the music industry is embracing the band’s ability to appeal to diversified audiences,” said Simon Yi, Beatnik Jr.’s manager. “The band couldn’t be more proud to play alongside music pioneers and innovators like OutKast and Sleepy Brown.”
