Sometimes what we do isn't easy, no matter the amount of work, it can feel like shouting to the desert.  In a city of millions, only the dedicated and thoughtful find treasures. As long as we keep finding artists like this, it'll always be worth it.
Tall Tales . . .

According to Robin Hilton of NPR, the music embodies “a carefree mix of country folk, with simple guitar strums that mingle playfully with spare rhythms and sweet harmonies.”

Tall Tales and the Silver Lining is the reified vision of singer/songwriter Trevor Beld-Jimenez.

Beld-Jimenez has even embarked on several solo tours under the name Tall Tales.
"The Understanding" marks the band’s third release on Beehouse Records and is the result of months of writing and recording.

Tall Tales’ sound can be described as an amalgam of Americana Revivalist, and sun-soaked, multi-instrumental experimentation with a focus on ethereal yet rationalized lyrics surrounding the themes of love, nature, and friendship.

The group has been consistently performing for more than two years and has played shows with many notable acts such as Kimya Dawson, Langhorne Slim, The Entrance Band, Tom Brosseau, Richard Buckner, Little Wings, Whispertown 2000, Akron Family, and Ferraby Lionheart among others.

Trunk Space is looking for volunteers:

Specifically: students attending local high schools (Scottsdale, Mesa, Glendale, Chandler, Tempe, N. Phoenix, ect)  as well as the area Community Colleges (all over), and all ASU Campuses.

We need people who will distribute flyers/posters for our events, and let the students know about what we do; work with your school's Art/Music/Performance/Social Service Clubs to set up fundraisers and other happenings.

Those interested need to be reliable, check their email daily, be able/willing to come to Phoenix soemtimes, and willing to learn about the local music and art community.

Volunteers get to come to shows for free, set up their own events, and learn how to organize art & music shows.

If you're interested, write us at this address:

Review from, RockInsider.com:

Agent Ribbons sound is solidly held in all things retro. The duo sound like they belong in a 1940s cabaret over some of the dive bars and punk venues their playing. The songs on their debut CD are charming, witty, and so much fun. "Obituary" is a delightful ragtime inspired tune about a woman mourning her love life; while "Birds And Bees" is a tongue in cheek song about use of the word "Honey." This band is freakin' fantastic.

Kepi Ghoulie, at VerbicideMagazine.com:

The solo shows might not include the familiar crunch of electric guitars and pounding drums of Groovie Ghoulie concerts past, but the DIY aesthetic continues to drive Kepi’s playing. The shows have a familiar feel of many of the basement shows that sparked several punk bands in the 1980s. Crowd participation is constant. Audience members are urged to sing along after making requests, virtually driving Kepi’s set list for the night; the barrier between audience and performer is not only being taken down, it’s being shattered.

For Immediate Release
The Trunk Space presents
THE DIMINISHED MEN
Saturday Oct. 3rd, 9PM

http://www.diminishedmen.com
http://www.myspace.com/diminishedmen

For obvious reasons, The Sun City Girls hold a special place in the hearts' and ears' of Arizonans.
A band fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of their founding member are something to be reckoned with.
Luckily, The Diminished Men are worthy of the distinction with a reputation to back it up:

"If current instrumental music was always as majestic and as compelling as this, I'd hang up my Retro-Italian Soundtrack collector's boots for good. What we have here is the first definitive document from Seattle's Diminished Men.  . . .  This record is a superbly crafted mosaic of whip-cracking vengeance, speakeasy hallucinations, and haunted geography." -ALAN BISHOP (Sun City Girls, Sublime Frequencies)

Among their other achievements, The Diminished Men have opened for select screenings David Lynch's "Blue Velvet".

They have also performed with current hip act of the moment, The Curious Mystery as well as Secret Chiefs 3, Kayo Dot, and Skerik.

"Diminished Men plow a distinctive, reverb-laden groove in Seattle's bustling music scene. Southpaw guitarist Steve Schmitt pulls off mercurial, twanging leads that corkscrew with Django Reinhardt meets Ry Cooder dexterity while the rest of the group help create eerie and exhilarating spaghetti-western themes--with a peyote chaser. Is that cactus talking to me?" --The Stranger (Seattle Weekly).

Local support for this show are one of Phoenix's definitive DIY noise bands:
Skinwalkers

This show will start at 9PM on Saturday October 3rd.

Recently local music hero Mark Kopenits passed away, we didn't know him personally, but we knew OF him, and judging by the respect he had, he was a hell of a guy.

Long time TS friend Brent Miles has organized a fund raiser concert & raffle in his honor to be held @ the Ruby Room in a couple weeks.
You can get a little more info here:
http://www.myspace.com/sccaudiotechnologyprogram

As a teenager MARK KOPENITS entered Berklee College of Music where he was the 1st sophomore in the schools history to be accepted into audition only upper division classes. After only 2 1/2 years he graduated in the top 10% of his class and hit the road touring and recording with bands based out of New York, Boston and Los Angeles. In 1993 Mark founded "Gray Room Recording”, one of Arizona's most successful recording studios. . . .  He produced the much-anticipated solo release of Pistolaros guitarist/singer Mark Zubia and is currently in the studio working on Zubia's 2nd CD. Mark is the Coordinating Director of Scottsdale Community College's Audio Production Technologies and Music Business.

Excerpt from the Phoenix New Times, by Michelle Lopez:

The musician website/database
Earn It Yourself is the brainchild of Sarah Saturday, singer/songwriter of Gardening, Not Architecture fame. After dropping out of college to put her focus full-time on her band, Saturday began developing the blueprint for what would become the present day Earn It Yourself (EIY) ideals. Saturday self-promoted her band, booked the band's gigs, managed their tours, released the band's music with their own money and even screen-printed their t-shirts by hand. Her laborious efforts put her in a unique situation, when the opportunity arose, to spread her knowledge and teachings as part of the EIY initiative. Saturday has decided, for the first time ever, to take EIY on tour -- a tour which will wind it's way through Phoenix this September.

Trunk Space Presents
2 Nights of Experimental Sound Art
September 10th & 11th, 7PM

Additional Info:
Thursday 10th features:
Pedestrian Depot and EARN, both on tour from California.
http://monorailtrespassing.com
http://www.myspace.com/pedestriandeposi..t

"Pedestrian Deposit" is sound collage involving cassettes, synth, found objects and stringed instruments. The results are ethereal and beautiful. It is a mix of natural sounds (wind storms, shifting earth, rain), and other familiar sounds that become incredible out of their usual context.

"Earn" uses tape loops, sound collage, and guitar for "shoegaze" style noise that evokes My Bloody Valentine in minimalist/compact one man setting.

Friday 10th features:
Jeph Jerman, Clew of Theseus (both residing in AZ), Voice of Eye (New Mexico)
www.jerman.littleenjoyer.com
http://www.myspace.com/theclewofthe..seus
http://www.myspace.com/voiceofeyemusic

Jeph Jerman
is one of the most important experimental musicians in the world. His work is nothing less then the perfect manipulation of natural materials; stacks of twigs, mounds of earth, a thatch of reeds, withered leafs. Done without amplification is performances demand concentration, and reward with awe inspiring compositions.

Clew of Theseus is Ben Brucato, whose work with industrial music and record producing mark him as a star in underground music. He is currently returning from a world tour, and taking up a residency at Northern Arizona University. His work swings from harsh metallic cacophony, to serene trace dirges.

Voice of Eye
might be the could be the accessible of this night's show for some listeners. His current release "Seven Directions Divergent" pays homage to some of the diverse musical sources that have influenced us over the years from traditional Sanskrit chants to 60s psychedelic rock, to cute Euro pop, to shamanic trance. Says one review, "This is an ambitious project melding many different sources together with the ethereal beauty and yearning magnificence you expect from Voice of Eye. This CD transports the listener along a narrative history of our personal journeys of change and transformation as told through the medium of sound."

Both of these shows are scheduled to start at 7PM.
Cover for each night will be $7.00 per person.
